About Mark and Elizabeth
Mark and Elizabeth Schoenleber are artists (sculpture, pottery, drawing and painting) Mark taught art at Ashland High School from 1983-2013 and Elizabeth has been creating beautiful hand thrown stoneware pottery since 1988. We enjoy traveling and meeting people from all over the world. Being hosts allow us to work at home in our art studios and meet guests from all over the world. We love finding a place in our travels that exceeds our expectation and we love being able to be that for others.
Mark and Elizabeth purchased this Cottage in 1988
Why Mark and Elizabeth chose Siskiyou-Hargadine Historic District
After the favorable response from guests in our Terra Cottage Inn (vrbo #65608) (2005), we decided to create a traveler's accommodation from our home of twenty years (2007). The High Street Cottage is a lovingly refurbished 1931 cottage that is tastefully decorated with just enough modern touches to make your stay comfortable and memorable.
What makes this Cottage unique
beyond the 'park and walk to everything' location... the High Street Cottage sits on a great piece of property. The kitchen is white tile and marble counters with an O'keefe Merit gas range, hand thrown stoneware dinner, kitchen and bake ware; set up with cooks in mind. Koi pond, Gardens (flowers, herbs, salad and vegetables (in season)), decks and patios to relax and enjoy your stay, a great laundry facility and a full outdoor kitchen. At the center of the property are our art studios and too many great amenities to list.

Beautiful and peaceful
We loved our time here. It’s a treat for weary souls.
Immaculate and gracious hosts
High Street Cottage was immaculate and comfortable. It is a great location for the Shakespeare Festival. Elizabeth and Mark are gracious, fun hosts. We loved our stay there.
Cozy, comfortable Cottage
The cottage has everything one needs: comfortable beds & pillows, well appointed kitchen, interesting artwork everywhere, beautiful garden -- and only ~4 blocks walk from the OSF!
I will definately stay here again.
The Unique High Street Cottage
The columnist Herb Caen wrote of the San Franciscan native who died and went to Heaven. Saint Peter met him at the Pearly Gates and gave him a tour of his new eternal home. When they finished, Saint Peter asked, “Well, what do you think?” “Nice, but it ain’t San Francisco.”
For fifteen years, we have stayed at vacation rental homes throughout the west and overseas. We have had no bad experiences. All our hosts have been friendly and helpful. All the homes have been pleasant and homey. And our judgment never varies. “Nice, but it ain’t the High Street Cottage.”
Each year, we arrive at the cottage to find something new. Understated and subtle, or major. Landscaping, interior upgrades, porches. Always changing yet never changing. The comfort of the familiar. We walk through the door and we’re home. Back at our cozy High Street Cottage, with Mark and Elizabeth.
Thank you for such a great review. We always feel so blessed to have guests who become more guests, friends who we can't wait to see and catch up, year after year. We love what we do and we are looking forward to your next stay. Thank you again for the kind words and friendship, Mark and Elizabeth
Beautiful comfortable cottage within easy walking distance of downtown Ashland.
Elizabeth and Mark are fantastic hosts whose wonderful and charming cottage is full of thoughtful touches. I stayed for five nights with my college aged vegan son. We made good use of the well equipped kitchen. The weather was quite cold and rainy, and we had a wonderful time just hanging out in the beautiful space. It is very peaceful and relaxing, with comfortable beds and beautiful views out each window. We were there for the OSF, which was a short walk, or drive, away. We loved our stay and we will be back!
Southern Oregon Paradise
The great 20th century architect, Mies van der Rohe, said “God is in the details.” If Mies was right, and we think he was, then High Street Cottage is Paradise.
