Located in central Paia, a short walk to beach, restaurants, bars, grocery, bank, boutiques. A thoughtfully remodeled c. 1934 plantation cottage, 832 SF, with modern amenities. Including: Ceiling Fans in all bedrooms, living room and kitchen; A/C in bedrooms; Full-size fridge, Micro-hood, Dishwasher, oven and induction cooking pads, Toaster Oven; Wifi: Spectrum Cable 200 Internet: Roku: HBO, SHO, Netflix, Amazon Prime (but no cableTV); 55" 4K Ultra HD TV in Living Rm.; 40" Samsung HD 1080p TV in Kitchen; Outdoor shower w/ hot water;-) ; Washer and dryer. Propane Gas Grill;

Although permitted as a B & B, it is rented to only 1 tenant. You will have private use of the home. Up to (2) bedrooms, 1-bath, living room and kitchen. Pricing is designed to be a value for singles, or groups of up to 6 guests. Base Rate listed is for (1) Guest using 1 bedroom. Add $20/ additional person of any age, up to a maximum of (6) guests; Reduced rate possible for longer stays >2 weeks. I accept bookings for as little as 1-night, but only within about 30-days of arrival. I hope that you will understand that accepting a reservation for 1 or 2 nights far in advance creates Swiss cheese of the booking calendar, and precludes longer bookings. To the extent possible, I am very supportive of shorter bookings to allow visitors to stay in different locations to avoid long commutes to experience all the beauty. Hotel/Laptop safes in each bedroom. Luna House is well provisioned, probably better than any rental you have experienced.

Why James Huntington chose Paia

Having lived on the southside of Maui 89-93 (construction manager in Wailea), I found myself spending most of my time on the north shore. So that is where I chose to live when I returned. I prefer to commute to the nice south side beaches, and live in a more authentically Hawaiian environment. Paia is Maui's "Historic Plantation Town". Condo's are not allowed here. A 1934 Plantation Cottage is kind of a hobby. I have extensive experience in refurbishing homes with wide variance in architectural styles. My goal is to do necessary research and then thoughtfully refurbish and improve the property so that modern meets vintage seamlessly. . Hopefully I am achieving that with Luna House. Many projects are ongoing, especially in the yard, where private spaces spaces with tropical foliage are being created, BTW, "Luna" has nothing to do with the Latin meaning (moon), rather Luna is a boss, jefe, or someone with an elevated status. I surmise that the Luna's for the long ago abandoned sugar mill lived on Luna Place. The "skilled workers" lived in 'Skill Village' up Baldwin Ave.

What makes this house unique

I value living where I can keep the car parked and walk to a village having fundamental resources e.g. grocery (Mana Foods), bank, restaurants, bars, and the beach. Luna House certainly has convenient easy walking access to most of what one needs. Less of a transient tourist environment, Paia is an unusual blend of Wind Surfers and organic new age farmers from Haiku, Makawao, with a backdrop of Hawaiian plantation history.

Notes:
Outdoor shower in courtyard between garage and house is supplied with heated water. It also has a foot washer. Please use this shower when sandy from the beach. When bunches of bananas are harvested, I hang them from the eave of the garage near the outdoor shower for guests to enjoy. Rear yard is visible from kitchen and back bedroom. It is not a part of the guest area at this time. I have a 7 specialty chickens (black & white Silkies) that are cooped at night an sometimes roam free.

Best place to stay in Maui

Couldn’t have had a more perfect stay. Jim was a fantastic host, and he did a wonderful job with the place. The kitchen and bathroom was stocked with any essentials we might have needed. Jim did warn us about music from the bar next door, but we never heard it because we were always so exhausted from our jam packed days. Paia is the perfect home base for visits to Haleakala, the road to Hana, and other sites in the Upcountry. The town itself was charming and had some of the best food on all of Maui. The public beach was only a short walk away, and was pristine and secluded, we had almost the whole thing to ourselves! 100% would stay again, and will be recommending to all our friends!

Great location and wonderful house!!

This was truly better than advertised!

The charm and character of an older home but renovated perfectly with all the modern conveniences.

I enjoyed my stay here and had no concerns. It felt safe, clean and comfortable like home away from home.

The kitchen made me want to cook but we didn't have enough time to enjoy the local restaurants as it was.

The owner was great to interact with and was a wealth of knowledge and helped us get the most out of our time in Paia.

I'm already looking forward to the next time!

I never write reviews and thought maybe I shouldn't because selfishly you don't want to help make it too busy for next time but the stars were well deserved!

Awesome house, perfect location

The house is beautiful, very clean, and in the perfect location to explore Paia. Jim was a fantastic host—very quick to respond to questions, gave great recommendations for restaurants, bars, and activities, and overall just made us feel very welcome in his lovely home! The only bad part was that we only booked one night—once we arrived we didn’t want to leave! Paia is great, the house was perfect for our group of 4 and Jim is the best! Thanks so much, Jim! We will definitely be booking again on our next trip to Maui!

Simple & beautiful vintage house in beach community. Right in the heart of town.

Jim was a very accommodating & accessable host. Great attention to decorative detail as well as amenities like bath products, lots of towels & well stocked kitchen. Great choice for a family or group of friends. 5 min walk to beach. A good antidote for “resort fatigue “, it feels like real Hawaii here!
