About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths

Lake Almanor is located 165 miles north of Sacramento, nestled amongst the pines where the Cascade Mountains meet the Sierra Nevadas. At elevation 4500 feet it is the third largest manmade lake in California and best known for its prime hunting and fishing grounds.

There are two golf courses on the lake, Bailey Creek in the peninsula & a nine hole at Lake Almanor West. OK, we're fishermen, not golfers! Mount Lassen National Park is just 26 miles away, has hiking (to the top!), picnicking, and very scenic views. Play tennis in the peninsula or bike around the lake (many other trails for cycling to choose from).

This cozy home is situated on the east shore of Hwy 147. Just about the middle of the 8 mile strip at 3907 Hwy 147, Lake Almanor, CA 96137. Enjoy sunsets on the deck or fish right off the dock. Bring your boat, there's plenty of excellent fishing holes around. During the summer months we rent Friday to Friday. It truly is a nice spot on the lake.

Shopping and antiquing can be found in all the quaint old fashioned towns around the area. Dine out in Chester, the peninsula, try Westwood's famous 'Buffalo Chips Pizzeria' ('Cabin Fever' is our favorite). For a truly affordable vacation on the lake this is the place.

About Deborah Molea

We purchased the home in 1999 as strictly a business investment. Little did we realize how in love with the entire area we'd be. John loves to fish & sure gets his limit! We live in the bay area but travel north to the home monthly. It's our favorite place to go!

Why Deborah Molea chose Lake Almanor

The history of the Lake Almanor Basin is fascinating (we keep a book on the shelf to share with our guests). We found out the home was built in 1953 by Finnis Mack Saunders, nicknamed 'Chief', a foreman for the Red River Lumber Company. The knotty pine walls & ceiling in the kitchen are priceless! We've respectfully done some remodelling while keeping the old world charm of the home.

What makes this house unique

Uncle Johnnie's Fishing Cabin is situated on the middle of the east shore & is truly a nice spot on the lake. We enjoy sharing the home as much as our guests enjoy vacationing there!

A Lovely Winter Getaway

  • 4 of 5

This is a charming little house. Rustic but comfortable and a beautiful location overlooking the lake. The area is quiet and serene. We wanted a snowy adventure for our young son and were not disappointed. There was snow on the ground around the house and up Stover mountain a nice sledding hill.

Exactly what we wanted!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I spent 4 nights over Christmas at Uncle Johnny's Fishing Cabin. We were pleasantly surprised by the adorable vintage decor because we are vintage collectors, so it made us feel right at home! The cabin was warm and cozy and very clean! The bathroom are beautifully remodeled and the beds are comfy! It was stocked up with everything we needed, from a crock pot to firewood.

The views of the lake were stunning as well! We intended on doing a lot of fishing while we were there and that's exactly what we did, our fishing poles only left the water when we needed to re-bait them! (We caught fish every day right there off of the snowy bank!)

We would definitely return to Uncle Johnny's Fishing Cabin and fully intend to! This was possibly the best vacation ever! We miss it already! Thank you John and Debbie for being so prompt and responsive to any questions we had. Hopefully we will be back soon!

San Francisco Area

Great place to chill by the lake.

We really enjoyed our stay. The house seemed bigger than the square footage would suggest which was probably because our boys were constantly jumping off the dock and playing in the lake. It was very relaxing to sit on the back patio and enjoy the view while the kids play in the lake. The hosts were awesome - they even mailed a cable we left behind. They are very helpful with local suggestions on where to eat. I would highly recommend this place.

Wonderful Vacation!!

  • 5 of 5

The pictures do not begin to show the beauty of this cabin on the lake. Not only was it well maintained, but there were pictures in every cabinet to let you know where things are. Super organized! This is a well stocked home. The owners customer service was stellar. They took care of us from our first inquiry to our "leaving the cabin instructions". You can tell that they have been doing this for a long time...The View of Lassen is breathtaking as you head toward the small town of Chester. I don't know what we expected, but we had a surprise when we stopped at the Holiday Market (271 Main street) for groceries. The prices, staff and quality of the food are excellent. They have everything you might need. (the Deli was the greatest). A plus is that you can use the cabin phone number to get a discount card that really gives you a" locals" discount. Chester is a sweet town where the peace and quiet, and slow pace refresh your spirit. While you are there treat yourself to a visit to the Lassen Gift Company(220 Main Street). It's a fun store that sells unique gifts and has a Christmas room that has well priced ornaments all year. They serve up fabulous ice cream treats from an old fashioned Soda fountain.

The people were so friendly and helpful everywhere we went. We rented a Kayak from Lake Almanor Kayak rentals. Very reasonable prices and they deliver to/ and pick up right at the cabin. If you are new to this sport, the quiet bay off of the dock at the cabin is a great place to practice. We also rented a pontoon boat from the Knotty Pine resort. You can slowly motor around the entire lake, throw down anchor to swim or have lunch in a quiet cove. We tied a thin rope from the dock to giant tubes and floated all afternoon. Nature is all around you at Uncle Johnnie's cabin. We saw an eagle sitting in the tree behind the deck, Watching him soar and fish was priceless. There was a wild turkey that would strut through the yard each day too..At dusk we sat on the dock and watched small bats fly over the water eating bugs. We sure didn't have any trouble with mosquitos the entire week. I would recommend this beautiful vacation to anyone who wants to truly relax and enjoy the most spectacular views California has to offer. We had never been to this part of the state before, but we will be back next year for sure. Thanks Molea family for the best vacation ever!!!!!
