a great place to stay and explore the area, centrally located for fishing and outdoor activity
This cabin is quiet and secluded while still offering access to some of the best places for fishing, less than a mile from the Tippy Pond boat launch, and about the same distance from the Tippy Dam access opposite the launch on the Big Manistee. Access to the Big Manistee above Tippy Pond, and to the Pine River are short drives away.
The cabin itself is comfortable with great views for watching the local wildlife, mostly squirrels and deer. The kitchen is small, galley style, but well equipped for cooking most anything. We baked breads and made applesauce from wild apples while there.
The bathroom was clean and there was always plenty of hot water. There is an outdoor barbecue for grilling which we used for salmon and steaks. The weather did not lend itself to much outdoor activity while we were there, but there is a picnic table and outdoor fire pit. The front screen room makes an excellent place to sit when its warm and provided a place to store waders, boots, and fishing tackle and not clutter up the interior.
The Dublin market is a short drive away and provided everything necessary in the way of groceries, as well as several specialty items such as the in house jerky and meat market. The local meats were excellent and very reasonable. If you must eat out, Annie's Kozy Kitchen in Wellston was quite good. Breakfast was outstanding. We drove into Manistee and ate in a few places there, but none were as good as Annie's. There is a laundromat straight down the road about 10 minutes from the cabin.
The best part of our stay here was the owners. Dave and Betsy welcomed us and went far beyond just renting a cabin. Dave showed us the area, the fishing spots, loaned us a trailer that made using my inflatable boat much easier, and provided information on all the local spots. By far the best and most personable owners of any rental we have ever used.
Very nice relaxing place in the woods. We enjoyed watching the deer come in in the morning and at night. Did some fishing at tippy damn about 20ish mins.away. Enjoyed the Bon fires at night. The cabin had comfortable beds, kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans ,silverware. It could of used a hew more bath towels, but we brought a few, so it was all good. When we decide to go back to that area we would stay here again.
Quiet and cozy place. We saw a deer in the front yard. Cleaniness of cabin could’ve been better.
Location was quiet and private, quaint place. Overall cleanliness of the cabin-house could’ve been better.
Wonderful cabin for Pine and Manistee Rivers
Dave was a very responsive and welcoming host and ensured our stay was perfect -- he really went above and beyond. The cabin is tucked away within walking distance to Tippy Lake. We had a great time canoeing, kayaking and fishing the Pine and Manistee rivers and Tippy Lake and the convenient location made it easy traveling to each.
this house was exaclty what we were looking for.
the house and the property was perfect and the owner was great. 2 minutes from the boat launch. plan on coming back next year
Perfect for the family
The Pines Hideaway was perfect for the second annual fishing trip with my 12 year old son and 5 year old daughter. The deer feeder brought in a doe we’d watch every night and my daughter loved watching the chipmunk. Pappy’s has amazing fishing information. Dorner Lake has amazing Largmouth action in the morning casting frogs on the lilly pads. And the small lake in town with the beach was very clean.
