Serenitys Nest now has GLOW IN THE DARK FLOORS AND COUNTERS Owner available at 810. 394.1764 to book without a fee! Wendynest45@gmail.com !
I originally bought the cabin for the natural charm it had to me and it was a fixer upper , it is now named Serenitys Nest! My family has been in the area for over 50 years. When I saw the serine beauty of the river and the many birds nest that are located on the large beam on the porch, I knew this was the one for me! The previous owner had built it himself but it was never finished. He installed most of the wood on the walls which is pine and recycled barn wood! The 900 ft cabin has become a place for my creations! It started with the balcony and the outdoor picnic table that is one of the first large pieces I constructed. From there the cabin has had many unique features added that are artistic and unique in nature. The cabin is only 50 ft from the river and when laying in the main bedroom you have an awesome view of the trees, the sky, and the river! The peacefulness is spectacular to me! I have completed all of the work myself with some help from friends and family! Each year something new and original is added! This year 2018 , the new upstairs floors and two stone walls in the living room are new. The main bedroom floor I created with pennies and glow in the dark dust. I luv nature and have tried to bring it into the cabin. The design travels from the entrance door to the balcony door. It is a giant glow tree that leads to the tree lady face! Shes awesome! It's hard to capture the glow on camera, the best way to see it is to visit! I think it turned out well! Then on the balcony is the awesome claw foot tub for a unique soaking experience with hot water of course. I can soak for hours among the trees and all the beauty of nature. The other bedroom now has reclaimed 100 year old barnwood on the floor , with a unique door that my friend created. I completed the art on the roof last year and it can be seen from far away! One side is a giant birch tree with birds and the other side is an eagles nest with mom and dad and two babies. The downstairs floors and kitchen was remodeled in 2016 after suffering a pipe leak and flood. I used applewood and cedar wood with glows stones and aguariam stones to create the different objects that include turtles, flowers, angels, and faces, all the glows stones create a unigue viewing experience for each person. The path will lead you in complete darkness from door to door! The kitchen cupboards is a recycled store ice cold keep cabinet, that I reconstructed to fit, the countertops are made from cherrywood that I purchased from a personal mill owner who helped to cut the floor wood pieces. The tub sinks are large and useful. The ideas are endless in my mind for future additions!
The property is on one acre of land that has a privacy fence on one side and a wooded lot on the other side. It is very private and secluded but close to town. Houghton lake is 5 miles west and lake city is 15 miles east. The Merrit speedway is 10 miles and has races every weekend in the summer. The river has a stairway for easy access and is lots of fun to wade, explore or float in! There are many crabs and small fish that will gladly eat crumbs and the chipmunks luv handouts as well. I have seen many different bird species fly down river along with deer and many other creatures, and once a bear was spotted . I supply a small flat bottom boat to be used in the river, you can paddle or walk up and down the river ! Reidsburg dam only 3 miles away and is a good place to fish or swim ! There is a lot of surrounding trails and state land close by.
I do not live locally so am not usually on the property but I may be ther at the barn, staying in my camper! The maintence man may also stay on the property but not always. Ther are times when the property is private to the travelor but I am always a phone call away for questions, and to help as I can.
I have two canoes that are available to rent prior to your stay for 25.00 a weekend each. They must be moved and returned by you, paddles some life jackets and cushions are available in the small shed. The flat bottom boat that is free to guest is located next to the river and must be put in and taken out by you.
Merritt is a very small town! It has a general store and a post office. There is a party store on the corner that is one mile from the cabin. East on 55 a few miles , there is a small garden deli restaurant/ gift shop . A bisson herd is sometimes viewed from the road. Wendysnest45@ gmail.com
Recreation.: Houghton Lake offers many activities. Lots of shopping, a movie theater ,boat and skido rentals available. There is a state boat launch and room to park your boat at the cabin. Merritt Speedway just minutes from the cabin. Lake City 15 miles from the cabin.

Full of charm- Terrible odor
This house initially was exactly what we were looking for- unique and full of charm and fairly isolated so that we could have a relaxing weekend. Unfortunately we weren’t able to stay due to a terrible odor in the master bedroom. The door to the room was closed when we arrived and when we opened it we were immediately hit with a sickening rotting stench. We closed the door and because it was late, just stayed in the smaller bedroom. The next day we opened the door and the windows and the smell permeated through the rest of the house. I contacted the owner, and no one was able to come that day. We couldn’t stay, it was making us ill. I asked for a refund for the night I couldn’t stay and am still trying to work through Home away to get my security deposit and one night minimum returned to me. Haven’t experience good customer service from the owner. Loved the house and yard, wish we could have enjoyed It.
He'llo Ashley, I'm sorry that you smelled something! I'm not sure what you where smelling as the maintence person had just cleaned and did not notice any smell but the smell of the wood walls. The cabin was checked after your stay on Sunday and again , no smell ! I did send you the texts regarding the issue ! When you contacted me on Friday night at 10:30 I was unavailable to respond. I did respond at 9:57 on sat morning and let you know that It is a possiblility that there could be a dead mouse in the room and the location of the light switch that you could not find! You responded back at 1:46 pm to let me know that you would just stay in the other bedroom again , that night! Then you could not find the DVD cord. I responded promptly to your text, that people move things around all the time to look in another room. We do not check everything in the cabin when we clean , plugs and light switches or under beds ect., unless their Is an obvious Oder . That is the last text I received from you until, 8 days later when you requested a refund for your stay! I did respond promptly to that text and send you copies of all our text along with the text from the maintence person that had arrived to the cabin on that Sunday morning of your stay at 11:00 am. Again , there was no Oder smelled in the master bedroom. I did respond in 6 hrs to your request for a refund and said I would not refund your stay! As The last correspondence from you on saturday said you would just sleep in the other bedroom ( same size as master) for that night! Then you threaten to complain to Homeaway and you said you would write a bad review ! Your refund for your 75.00 cleaning/secutity deposit was refunded on 10/16/17 and your refund for one night was processed through your complaint to Square on 11/6/17 150.00 out of my account. I am more than fair to my quest and I did respond to all of your texts and emails, I even offered you a free nights stay in good faith to make you happy. The cabin is in the woods and surrounded by nature, I'm not sure what you smelled but we did not smell it! If you have still not received your refunded cleaning deposit and your one nights stay refund then you may have to complain again to your own bank or card processor. Again I'm sorry you smelled something that we did not! The offer for the free night is no longer available as you have been refunded for one night. I wish you well and thank you for choosing Serenitys Nest! Wendy
I liked it, my husband did not.
I didn't realize that not only did we not have wifi, we did not have cell service either. My husband was not prepared to come "unplugged". All his reading and entertainment was on line and he didn't bring a book. Also, our kids were at home and we had to go out of the house to hear from them. Not a good fit. We left a day early and only stayed one night. I kind of liked the decor and uniqueness of the house, but my husband thought the decor was hiding a not so nice little shack that he had to turn sideways in to get up the stairs to the bedroom. (He's not fat, just broad shoulders.) I wish we could give it rave reviews like some other places we've stayed, but it was not a good fit for us. However, I did love the back swing in the morning listening to the birds, frogs, and dogs. Peaceful! Mixed feelings on this one!!
Thank you for taking the time to post your opinion of the cabin . It does not have Wi-fi and it does let you know that in the amenities , some phone services work, and some do not, it is out of town! I have AT&T and have full service anywhere in the cabin . An A-frame diffinatly has slanted walls, and they are visible in the photo's, that's the construction of an A-frame! I don't know the construction of a shack but the cabin is very sturdy! I'm sorry your husbands broad shoulders caused him to turn sideways getting to the upstairs bedrooms. Thank you for your review, the cabin is a unique rustic creation that offers a peaceful retreat to those that visit. Thank you , Wendy
Totally awesome cabin
We loved this place. So much better than a hotel. I would stay over and over. Clean, and heat.
Thank you! I look forward to your future visits! Wendy
Beautiful and peaceful!
Serenity's Nest was the perfect getaway for our family! It was so peaceful and the cabin is a true work of art. Everything was thoughtfully made and beautiful. The roof, the floor, the handmade furniture, the vintage stove, the tub... all amazing! We were there with our two-year-old and 4 month old and as soon as we arrived I told my husband I'd love to return in future years. The creek and Surrounding outdoor area are perfect for little ones. This is very nit picky, but the only thing I would change is providing recommendations of where one should take their garbage if they want to clean the cabin themselves to retain the security deposit. With two babies, we had two bags of smelly garbage that we couldn't drive six hours home with us so we left it and opted not to clean ourselves. That small thing aside, we loved everything about Serenity's Nest and found it to be such a peaceful getaway from everyday life.
Thank you Lisa for your kind words! I'm glad your family enjoyed your stay! I will take into consideration your recommendation for the garbage removal service. I do understand that not all vehicles are accommodating for that. Thank you for choosing Serenitys Nest, Wendy
We had a great time! Very relaxing setting and loved all the little details put into the house.
Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay at Serenitys Nest, Wendy
