The home was everything we expected and had the beach to ourselves. We had a wonderful vacation and recommend this location.
Beautiful, Quiet Spot
Great spot right on the water...not busy and plenty of beach to walk at low tide. House is great for large groups...plenty of room!
Private nature preserve on a beach - truly special
My wife and I wanted an isolated beach property where we could read and get away from urban life, and this was beyond all expectations (we wrote this together). The house is practically alone on a long stretch of the St. George Sound. No houses on either side. Thousands of crabs and conchs to study and enjoy, dolphins playing within twenty yards of the shore, bald eagles and ospreys, so many shore birds we'd never seen on other coasts, herons and pelicans wherever you look; a receding tide allowing us to walk a hundred yards out from shore. Not a pristine white beach, lots of debris, seaweed and tree roots thrusting up from erosion. It's a Sound, with quiet soft waves. In five days we were the only people on the beach as far as we could see. A huge National Forest across the road and not a lot of traffic on the road. Dining in Apalachicola was affordable and amazing fresh seafood. The oysters and crab and grouper. You pay twice as much in South Walton for worse quality seafood. Apalachicola is charming and old with fun boutiques and oddity shops. The sky at night was a light show, with lightning on the horizon filling the clouds with color and flashes.
The house itself is special. Several balconies with different views, very comfortable and nicely adorned rooms, excellent AC, high ceiling fans, good plumbing (Important). Wear good waterproof sandals or shoes outside and look where you step. Maybe not for little kids to run around wild. Take bigger people and watch the wild things run around and fly around you.
If you want pristine beaches, St. George Island is just off the coast (you're looking at it from the house) and the state park there has seven miles of the most perfect white sand beaches in Florida (we've seen them all) for less than ten bucks a couple. Take bug spray because the yellow flies are man-eaters, but don't let it stop you.
If you like to fish, get a local license pick your spot. You can catch large blue crabs with a net right there at the house. I caught (and released) at least fifteen. They're slow but watch out for those claws.
I could go on and on. The owner was available for questions and very helpful. I wish we were still there.
2019 Family of 11 Vacation
The house & beach were perfect. The location away from "Busy Tourists " was perfect. I would love to return within the next couple of years.
Thanks. It is our pleasure to share this amazing place with you.
Very nice house. Private beach. Couldn't ask for more.
Great guest. Left the place spotless. Thanks!
Great, quiet location away from crowds
We had a great time and really enjoyed the location. The beach was very private and the gulf was full of wildlife. The kids enjoyed swimming in the calm water and finding marine life along the beach and in the water. Great location near really nice beaches, good restaurants, a state park and now crowds. We definitely recommend this place.
Thanks to everyone for their great reviews. We just went down ourselves for a maintenance week and it was hard to leave. Things were in pretty good shape after 30 guests. Some of you left private suggestions too; thanks, thats helpful. I think we got all of them addressed.
