This place is our way of reconnecting with the nature and each other by disconnecting from anything and anyone else. It is really the most important getaway for our family that we hope to go on every year.
A perfect place to unplug and such a short distance from some AMAZING trails! The hosts were extraordinarily helpful with everything we needed ♥️ 10/10 would stay again and will be recommending this place to more friends and family.
I was looking to recharge my batteries in the woods of western Maine and this cabin was just the spot to do so. It's perched (and I do mean perched) on a ledge and offers *stunning* views of the surrounding hills - especially during peak foliage time. The cabin is well-built and tidy, with everything you need to hunker down and unwind. Being completely off-grid, nothing was lacking. Everything is powered by propane (no electrical outlets, so I made sure to have a good supply of batteries), and the propane-powered lights kept the whole place super cozy and warm. The outhouse was the *tidiest* I have ever used (and I'm no stranger to these) and the outdoor shower - especially on a brisk 38-degree morning - was invigorating (I really could have spent all morning there, surrounded by woods and nature, just lovely). The Appalachian Trail is only a few minutes' trek up the road (to Dunn Falls - still spectacular despite the recent drought) and other natural wonders were close by (Mahoosuc Public Reserve Lands, Old Speck, Grafton Notch State Park, Umbagog NWR, Mt. Blue State Park). The dogs were thrilled to run around the woods and splash in the nearby streams, and our daily hiking adventures meant they were plenty tired at the end of every day. Our hosts, Beth and John, were so kind to check in regularly throughout our stay (to see if I needed fresh drinking water, firewood, etc.) and were communicative throughout, from the booking all the way to check-out. John was very thorough in helping me get set up in the cabin, taking time to explain how things like the outdoor shower and propane lights worked. It is clear how much they love and care for the place. I left my retreat feeling refreshed but ready to return as soon as possible. Thank you, Beth and John!
The property was just as it was described in the listing with good access to trails and outdoor recreation, as well as a great mountain view. I would definitely stay there again!
John and Beth are great hosts. The cozy cabin was clean, well equipped and is great for folks who love the outdoors. John greeted us before check-in; he noticed a couple of broken lamp filaments and replaced it right then and there, gave us a tour around the property and explained all the amenities. The cabin is off-grid indeed, and you will loose cellular network/gps a few miles from the cabin but thanks to detailed directions sent to us by Beth a couple days earlier, we made it just fine. We really appreciate Beth and John's attention to detail. Our pup loved exploring the property, we loved staying here and hope we can return.
We had such a great time! Absolutely loved the cabin, no neighbors, so clean and quiet, seemed new. They had everything, towels, pans, sheets, etc which was really nice. Great location. Being off the grid was amazing. The outhouse was tough. Unfortunately it wasn’t something we liked. Wished it was more of a bathroom with a composting toilet or like an airplane one. We knew what was offered but in practice I don’t think we’d be able to do it again. If that changes, I’m pretty sure we’d be back every year!
This was one of the most amazing cabins we have ever stayed in! Everything runs on propane; lights, fridge, stove, over, hot water, grill. The shower is an outdoor shower, which worked totally fine for us. The outhouse was clean and well taken care of. It was such a fun experience to stay in a cabin like this! We felt so comfortable. Beth met us there right when we arrived to show us how everything worked, Thanks Beth! It was so quiet and beautiful. Dunn Falls, on the AT, was just a short drive from the cabin. We went to Grafton Notch, which was also a short drive from the cabin. We did not dine at the local burger joint, but Beth spoke very highly of it! We were sad to have to leave this spot. We have been gushing over it since we left! Thank you Beth for sharing this beautiful space!
I had a great week at Beth and John's cabin! The cabin is in a prime location for hopping around to local and not-so-local hiking and outdoor activities. The shower is hot and the cabin was clean and had anything I needed.
The property is clean and cozy. John and Beth are great hosts. They found the shower heater broke before we got there and they had it replaced the next day. Nice people and a nice place. Looking forward to staying here again.
This cabin is off the beaten path and off the grid, which means no Wi-Fi and electricity. It has a stove and refrigerator and an outdoor shower that is run by propane. It's a great cabin for outdoorsy people. It is near the AT trail and various hiking trail within walking distance. Which was a plus for us because we love to hike.
Great place to get away from it all. Hiking on Appliacian Trail very close by. Cabin was clean, warm and had everything that I needed. Owners were top notch!!!
Loved the cabin and area. Enjoyed lots of exploring with the kids and dogs. John and Beth were great and provided us with firewood, water, and local trails. Loved being off grid for a few days....kids headed outside every morning to play on the rocks instead of asking for electronics, perfect!
The property was exactly what was needed to reconnect with simple times... simple living has less distractions! The cabin front porch helps to feel, hear, see ALL nature has to offer! Dogs were quite comfortable and content, too!!!
Our stay was wonderful. We hiked to Dunn Falls, Eyebrow loop trail and swam in nearby water holes. Stopped by puzzle mountain bakery for wild blueberry pie. Beth and John we're wonderful hosts, they left plenty of campfire wood and drinking water for us. They were a text away if we needed anything.
Lovely rental. The cabin is absolutely lovely. Well stocked kitchen. Comfortable bed. Outhouse is clean and well maintained. Nicely located for easy drives to Rangley, Errol, Pittsburg, and Grafton Notch. Great hiking nearby and within short drives. Beth is a fantastic hostess and full of great info about nearby places to hike and things to see. Would definitely stay here again!
The cabin was extremely cozy, and was a great place to spend a week off the grid within nature. It's just off the Appalachian Trail, with tons of moderate hikes and beautiful scenery - including many waterfalls and swimming holes. Highly recommended!
A few tips. It's quite removed from commercial areas, so plan accordingly. The nearest hardware/sporting goods store is in New Hampshire about 30 minutes away. The nearest grocery store is in the other direction, also 30 minutes. Also, it's truly off the grid... No electricity or toilet! Make sure to bring board games or a couple of books to read by the fire. Overall, it was really nice to get out of the city and experience the beautiful Maine scenery. I would stay here again.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. The host's communication was prompt and the cabin was perfect for our needs. The area is beautiful and we would jump at the opportunity to stay there again!

A short stay
Maybe we should have looked at the picture with a magnifying glass but when we got there we saw the stairs up the hill. No handrails there or at the cabin and the slope to the outhouse was too much. The ad said NOTHING about not for the handicapped. I am one a cane and can do steps if there are handrails. The Biels were great about it and obviously did not really want us to stay as they were afraid that I would get hurt. Said they hoped that we would get at least 1/2 our money back (we did purchase and insurance plan).
This should have been listed as "not for the disabled".. We had to go find a motel. Very unhappy!
If you’re looking for somewhere to stay that’s off the grid, I highly recommend this place. Between the many hiking trails in the area to the amazing wildlife, it was worth every penny spent. I know I’m definitely gonna have to stay here again in the future.
