About this property

Water Front on Big Hills Lake

Our cottage is perched on the shore of the lake and offers sweeping views. The cottage has a large deck over looking water and includes your own private dock, and fire ring (and lots of firewood!). If you want to boat, fish, swim and have campfires on the shore of beautiful Big Hills Lake in Waushara County will be a great spot for you.

This recently updated cottage has everything you will need for a great vacation along with the charm of a old-school cottage. This cottage is very cute and comfortable but it's not fancy. It is best suited for families.

The upper cottage level features sliding glass doors that open onto an amazing deck, a fully equipped kitchen (sorry, no dishwasher) a dining and living area, and quirky but clean and functional bathroom.

The lower level has four beds (1 queen, 1 double and 2 twin). It is separated into 2 "bedrooms" by a curtain. There is plenty of space, a large closet and multiple dressers but it is a little short on privacy. This sleeping area ideal for families who like each other and value being together. Note that there is not a bathroom on the bedroom level.

The cottage is the kind of place that people come to year after year. If you are looking to hang out, make family memories, drink your favorite beverage with an amazing view and enjoy lazy joyful days on the lake, our cottage may be for you.

Guests have access to a private dock and may tie up a boat during their visit.

We have a canoe, kayak and life jackets that you are welcome to use during your stay.

There is a fire ring for evening campfires as well as firewood for your use.

Guests may or may not see us during their visit. We are always available by phone and we have a property manager who can take care of emergencies.

Other things to note
-To keep costs low we ask that guests bring their own sheets and towels.
-There is a TV, DVD player, HDMI cable and FireStick and lots of DVDs. We do not have cable.
-County law requires requires us to handle the deep cleaning but we require all guests to do a basic clean-up (sweep, bag-up trash, do dishes, etc.)
-There is a large trash container on site and weekly trash service which should be plenty for the week. If you create excessive garbage we ask that you take it with you.
-We ask that guest recycle using the containers provided.

Summer in full bloom
Our stay was magical! So many fond memories created from the elusive turtle spotting to the swimming, water sports, beautiful views and bonfires overlooking the lake. The views from the spacious deck were amazing! The property owners were kind, generous and attentive.

Very nice family get- a -way
Very cozy, comfy cottage that was just right. Clean, well maintained, and comfortable. Very peaceful, as the deck is overlooking the lake. The owner was excellent to work with, providing good communication from the beginning of our stay to the end. We would definitely return in the future.

Wonderful week
A few cautions: The stairs to basement where the beds are, are very steep and narrow. Could be a limiting factor for people with knee problems. My husband and I have some knee problems but we were able to make it up and down during the week without lingering effects. Just takes a little effort to go down the stairs. At times just taking a step at a time. Also they no longer have a working fireplace which is one of the features in the description in February of this year that I was attracted to. I don't know if that has been taken out of the description by now. Those 2 items aside this cabin is so cozy and cute and comfy. The kitchen is well equipped (I did baking and cooking during our stay), the views of Big Hills Lake are awesome. You are right on the water. Open the windows up and you can hear water lapping at the shore. It is charming. It is surrounded by pines and oaks and you can hear lots of birds singing. The owner is very responsive to any questions and wants you to enjoy your stay. Very friendly but not intrusive. They own a cabin next door and sometimes will be there. But they are quiet. All round good memories were made the week I was up 6/14-6/21. Except weather was cold, rainy and gray. But the cabin is well heated and you feel snug if you go up there in cooler weather. Besides Wisconsin weather...what are you gonna do??? Karen Ludwig

Mike and Suzanne live in Madison, WI with their two teenage children. Both work at the UW Madison and love both traveling the world, and spending weekends fixing up their cottage and enjoying all that Wisconsin has to offer.

Why they chose this property

We always wanted to find a perfect place for our family to enjoy the summer but it took several years for us to find the right spot.

We purchased the property in 2016 and have spent the times since constantly improving the space and amenities.

We feel in love with the property because it is right on the lake edge and allows wonderful access to everything the lake has to offer.
