Amazing holiday
Our family of 4 had the best two weeks at Casa Oasis Caribe, and we didn’t want to leave. It is so well equipped, it answered our every need. From pool towels and shampoo/conditioner, to cooking essentials, AC & a washer/dryer it made holiday life so easy. Not only is the house of a high standard, the pool is perfect for taking a dip, and the kids were splashing around in it every day. It’s set back from the road with a good few steps, so a bit tricky with the cases etc, but so worth it when you get there. Opposite is a shop with some basics, and the mango cafe was fab for breakfast/lunch, with Mike’s pizzas just a few doors down (both a ‘must try’). There is enough life on your doorstep to cut off from the craziness of the north of the island, but close enough to dip in when you fancy it... just a few minutes by golf cart. We found a golf cart essential for our trip, and they aren’t cheap at $400 odd USD per week, but if you want to see the island it’s a must. The main supermarket Chedraui is only 500m away (and sells everything you could possibly think of!) but I wouldn’t even attempt walking it in the heat, which was so intense in late July. For us the location was ideal, as we visited the turtle rescue centre, dolphin discovery, and the Mayan ruins on the south of the island. But most importantly we had a wedding to go to at Zama beach club, so we had relatives all over the island, and regularly went out for dinner in the centre of town in the north of the island. Lastly, I can’t not mention the turtles on the beach directly below the cliffs beyond the pool. The house sits on the ocean front and has amazing views, with dolphins swimming past and boats in the distance. The beach is small and too rough to go out for a swim in (although people were snorkelling there), but not too rough for the giant turtles that we saw coming and going every night to lay their eggs. It’s such a special thing to see, which must only be done by moonlight to be sure not to disturb them (some idiots were flashing lights in their faces) which is half the fun... watching the shadows & sand fly as the dig to lay eggs. That and the iguanas that bask in the sun just beyond the pool. It’s like watching a nature programme on your doorstep. The management arranged our transfers and golf cart hire, and even the swim with whale sharks, and nothing was too much trouble. The owner Coleen even got in touch directly with recommendations and tips. It was just perfect, thank you
