~We welcome you to the Countryside Cottage!

Our place is a small manufactured home that has been totally renovated inside and out and updated to a fresh new place for couples or families traveling to the area. (900 square feet)

Cook on the grill, enjoy the deck and 1 acre yard, star gaze at night with no city lights, cook a yummy meal in the full kitchen, enjoy the electric fireplace, enjoy a good movie on the big screen TV, catch up on work with wifi, cuddle up on the Lazy Boy Leather couch and get a good nights sleep on our new beds!
(1 Queen and 2 Twin XL that fits adults as well)

**Make sure to bring your account information for signing in to the smart TV Apps like NETFLIX, AMAZON PRIME, ETC.
We offer Hulu.

The cottage is only a half mile from The Nicholson House Restaurant and Gift Shop and Layden's Country Store which sells the BEST meat in the area! Gas as well.

Walk the 9 miles of trails, kayak, picnic and enjoy the scenic pond at Merchants Millpond State Park which is only 16.5 Miles away.
Grocery store is 12 minutes away in Hertford.

The cottage is located in a very safe area in the country which is mostly families.
If you like being in the country and can handle a little bit of occasional road traffic from time to time, you will love our cottage!

Enjoyed our stay

Good amenities. Though restaurants and stores are a few miles away, location is about 90 minutes from Nags Head and an hour from Virginia Beach, allowing us to visit multiple beaches during our trip.

My family and I stayed here while I worked on a site nearby. It’s very clean and peaceful. The property manager was extremely quick to respond and very helpful. Highly recommend staying here!

work at Gates County Schools

my company had 4 weeks of work in gates County at the schools- we needed a comfortable place to stay- there were 2 of us. this house was very clean, comfortable, and had everything you need for a stay.

We loved staying here. Of all the various places we have stayed in and around Elizabeth City, Hertford, and Edenton this was one of the best and is also a great value. Loved being close to Layden’s store and close to the places we needed to be. Alli and Floyd have put together everything needed for a great stay. Thanks for sharing your place with us.

Beautiful property. Great family home if you have smaller children. Everything was great. Just very far out and there’s hardly any street lights.

So glad you enjoyed our home! Not exactly sure what was meant by "we are far out". That depends on where you are visiting. We are located in the country. Next time, be sure to check where your rental home location is. As far as street lights, there are none in the country but that's why we have outside lighting and a security light that provides extra light in the driveway. You can actually enjoy the stars out here unlike cities full of street lights. ;)

Be very cautious renting to this person! We have never received a low rated review in 12 years of hosting our homes and we love what we do and sharing our homes with others. This was a retaliatory review. After staying one night, this entitled guest decided they wanted to leave. After she realized the cancelation window was over and there was no refund, she started claiming false things that were wrong with our home. ( We check our home daily and take very good care of it. All lies.) She then became very aggressive. This was a total scam guest that everyone warns you about. The listing was never read but agreed to the cancelation policy when she booked. She wouldn't answer any questions and demanded a refund. This guest has no idea how a vacation rental works and did not purchase trip insurance. This was a holiday weekend as well. They would be better suited to a hotel.

My daughter and I came down for a family reunion. This place was perfect. 20 min ride away from the Reunion, local grocery store that had what you need to cook something simple or extravagant. The home was clean, cozy and comfortable. It was a great stay. We will return. Thanks again Allison

Great location for playing Croquet

Nicely renovated modular home approximately 1 mile from the Albermarle Croquet Club. A nice country store 1/2 mile away. Bedrooms with twin beds although small they are comfortable — good closet space (a larger nightstand would be helpful)/. 30 minutes to Elizabeth City. NOTE: this is a somewhat rural area and although the yard is well maintained, the residence across the street looks like a junkyard. Allison is very prompt in returning messages. I would definitely stay there again

So glad the stay was enjoyed! We worked super hard to make it nice with an early check-in as requested. Sorry that the nightstand was a little bit small for the CPAP machine. The beds are Twin XL which is the same length of a queen bed. (small rooms) Yes, we are out in the country and that's one of the perks. :) Guests love to get away from the busy city and enjoy a slower pace of life. Unfortunately, because it is rural, there is no HOA or rules about how to keep a yard. The old house/camper across the street belongs to someone who is very physically ill and can no longer keep things up. They have lived on this road as long as us and they are nice folks. The backyard of our home has a nice deck/grill with a view of the woods. :)

It was fine

It was clean and tidy. Furniture and appliances seemed new and were comfortable. It is way out in the country with no restaurants or major grocery stores nearby. Road noise at night is pretty loud! Overall it was good for what we needed.

We are sorry that we didn't earn a five star review this time. Our new place is in the country (As Stated in the listing) and we do actually have a restaurant and a small store a half mile away. Also we are only 12 minutes from Hertford with restaurants and a chain grocery store. The guest could have easily picked up anything they needed while working everyday in Elizabeth City. It is confusing as to why a guest would not read a listing to understand location before booking! We also stated that there could be some road noise from time to time or a few tractors or trucks passing by with crops. We always strive to make our guests happy with what we provide and stores and traffic are NOT within our control. Maybe a hotel room in the city without all of our amenities would have been better for this guest.

Our 3 children have been raised in this little township.
Floyd is a commercial fisherman and enjoys selling seafood at the local markets and maintaining the rentals.
Allison homeschools, manages the rentals, enjoys photography, the beach and jeep rides.
