About this property
A charming home on a beautiful peninsula on a crystal clear lake.
Our Grandparents purchased this beautiful summer cottage, in 1938. In 1989, our father, an Architect, renovated it, added a gourmet kitchen, and a master suite, with a bunk room, below. It was their primary home for 20 years. The house sits high on a peninsula that runs perfectly north and south. The sun rises over the a beautiful vista of the lake on one side, and sets over the dock and swim beach on the other. The property spans the peninsula, and is filled with mature Norway and White Pines, and stately Maples. The house has a gradual walk way including 16 steps from the parking area up to the front door. The house is a combination of an old cottage with beautiful varnished pine and a big open fire place, and a modern architecturally designed home. Full of family heirlooms, Persian rugs and fine furnishings, this is a gorgeous cottage in an incredible setting. The property is located on Ely Lake, three miles south of Eveleth. A crystal clear lake, with a sugar sand beach, perfect for swimming, paddle boarding, or just enjoying the view from the dock bench. The master suite features a king bed, a bath with walk in shower and jet tub, skylight, and a dressing room. The second bedroom has a queen bed, and is part of the old cottage, lined with tongue and groove original pine paneling, it is spacious and bright. A bath with a walk in shower, is adjacent. The bunk room is located below the master suite and has a queen bed, partitioned off from the two single beds. The Kitchen is a cook's dream. The large 4 burner gas stove with cook top fan, is located on the center Island. A in-wall electric convection oven, side by side refrigerator/freezer, and Bosch dishwasher, large double stainless sink round out the cooking area. A full compliment of pots and pans, appliances, knives, utensils, flatware and dishes are all what you would expect in a home of this caliber. The adjacent dining area is surrounded by glass overlooking the lake, and the Islands to the east. The sunrises are amazing! The living room is centered around a large open fire place. A marble coffee table and designer couch and chairs, make it a wonderful spot to sit and enjoy. Firewood is provided. The west room is a cozy den with two comfy chairs and lots of windows. The perfect spot to watch the sun set through the pines, over the lake. Adjacent to the front entry is a Library area with skylight. The house is 25 minutes from Giant's Ridge, a year around resort offering alpine and nordic skiing and two golf courses. The Eveleth Golf course is located minutes from the house. The 115 mile Mesabi Bike Trail, rated one of the best in Minnesota, is accessible by bike, from the house, or a short drive to a parking area. The Eveleth-Virginia Municipal Airport (KEVM) is minutes away and Sky Harbor, Seaplane Base is located on Ely Lake. Eveleth is also home the to United States Hockey Hall of Fame. The larger community, Virginia, 5 miles from the house, offers a wider variety of retail offerings. A SuperOne Grocery store, Target, Menard's to name a few.

About the host
Hosted by Bill Damberg
Brother and sister, Bill and Kate, grew up on the lake spending many summer days with our grandparents at this home, then known as 'The Cottage'. Our parents renovated this into a year-round home which has provided the setting for years of family gatherings. Kate now lives in London and Bill lives in the Twin Cities. This is our retreat filled with family treasures and heirlooms which we hope you will enjoy and appreciate as you relax on this amazing lake.
