About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Hoping the sizzling temps will give way to cool autumn days and a snowy winter, it's time to start planning some winter play time. We've got the perfect spot for you: the Shasta Rainbow House at the foot of Mt Shasta, a dog friendly 3 bedroom and 3 full bath getaway. The home is actually IN THE TOWN OF McCLOUD with clean air and coveted crystal clear glacial water. The home is replete with a kitchen like no other in town, a quiet (away-from-highway location), a fenced yard, and still just minutes to all activities.

The Ski Park finally reopened for summer mountain bikes. The new owners are energized to run the ski lifts for bikes through October 15th.

As always, the front porch swing with it's view of Mt. Shasta awaits you. Ice cold tap water quenches your thirst and cools you on those hot summer afternoons and a clean burning wood stove (wood provided) warms your snow played out body. This updated historic mill house has an incredible kitchen, three bedrooms, three full baths, and easy access to all that the Shasta area has to offer.

It can be whatever you desire: a hiking base camp, fly-fishing retreat, romantic weekend getaway, or week long family reunion site. It's a great spot for fisherman, skiers, snow shoe'rs, rock hounders, quilters, mushroom hunters, square dancers, mountain bikers, kayakers, and bocci ball players.

The house has been outfitted for comfortable, casual living. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. Books, board games, and playing cards stock the shelves and, yes, there is Sat TV as well as a DVD player and an iPod dock. The front porch, with it's view of Mt. Shasta, is a great spot for morning coffee or sunset reflections. A fully fenced yard surrounds the house and the herb garden provides fresh seasonings throughout the summer. The well stocked cook's kitchen is a delight to prepare meals in or you can BBQ during summer on the patio.

Minutes from all sorts of recreation, the Rainbow House is the perfect place to enjoy the clean air and coveted waters of Mt. Shasta. All you need to bring are friends and food!

About Mimi

McCloud has been my getaway place for years. My mother was born and raised here and my family camped in the area often when I was a child. It's a quiet and peaceful place with abundant activities. It's a pleasure to share McCloud's beauty and fun with others.

Mimi purchased this house in 1998

Why Mimi chose Shasta Cascade

This old house, probably built around 1908 typifies the traditional mill house with modern conveniences. It's well located away from the highway and just short walks to downtown, the park, or the local trails. There is a pleasing view of Mt Shasta from the porch and back yard.

You will find it a quick and pleasant getaway spot from the bay area or valley, a simple drive up I-5.

What makes this house unique

Three Bedrooms with Three Full Baths

Kitchen like no other in town

Fenced yard and view of Mt. Shasta

Clean and pet friendly

Guestbook comments from the owner

What an enjoyable stay we and our friends had at the Rainbow house in McCloud. Not only is McCloud one of our favorite places, but now we are putting a very special house on our list of stays. The house was well appointed, spacious, private, quiet, and easy to spend time in.

Mimi and her staff took very good care of us helping with extra sheets, paper goods and wood for cozy fires. Could not have been better! And we had the pleasure of visiting more of the volcanic sites in the area, experiencing some rain and Flyfishing the area, occasionally taking some fish for delicious dinners. Thank you so much, we will be back.

(Mimi: Thank you for a great review and for taking good care of my home. I am glad your family, friends, and you enjoyed all that McC and the area have to offer. Fall is a great time to tour the area and chase fish. We look forward to your return!)

Super pet friendly!

  • 5 of 5

If you are like me, my dogs are part of my family. It is hard to find such a wonderful place that appreciates pets! There is a nice sized totally fenced yard to keep your pets safe. From the moment we walked in, we absolutely LOVED the home! June had the heat on for us (it was about 25 degrees outside!) Each of the 3 bedrooms has its own bath. The kitchen is HUGE and has everything you need - from pots and pans to a large number of spices. It was nice to be able to find anything you needed. There is also a wood stove and this owner supplies the wood for you! If you stand on the front porch, you'll see the majestic Mt. Shasta staring right back at you. It's so close, you think you could touch it. Just about 4.5 miles down the road you'll find the ski park and the cross country/snowshoeing area. The town of McCloud is adorable with its cool shops and historical buildings. About 9 miles up the road are the McCloud Falls which are absolutely beautiful. Lots of other attractions nearby as well - Lake Siskiyou, Mt. Shasta, golfing and world class fishing. The owner, Mimi, is fantastic to work with. She is very prompt with her replies to your email. You will not be disappointed, guaranteed. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this home a 20!

Classic McCloud!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rainbow House. It offered a nice relaxing atmosphere for our get away from the suburbs. It was clean, nicely equipped, and right in the heart of McCloud. Mimi and June were so nice to work with, very helpful and knowledgeable of the area. We enjoyed sitting out on the front porch and BBQing on the back patio, while the kids ran around the nice yard. We look forward to our next stay at the base of Mt. Shasta!

Best place I've stayed in McCloud area

  • 5 of 5

We have a group of friends that meet yearly for a guys weekend of fishing and story telling and have for the last 33 years. Usually we stay in Mt Shasta City but decided this year to stay in McCloud. It was the best decision I have made in a long time because I found this place to stay for this years trip. It is just perfect for our needs, and if your traveling with your family it will sleep 6 very comfortably and each bedroom has it's own bathroom. The range/oven is huge and impressive, it is well stocked (although we didn't need to use anything because....well we are guys we ate out). We arrived earlier than we expected and wanted to fish and had too much stuff in our truck to put in the cab and wanted to drop the excess on the porch, I called the housekeeper and let her know what we were doing. She not only dropped the key off early, while we were fishing she pulled our stuff inside for us...just great treatment. Mimi the owner is super fast in all email replies and very accommodating...I will definitely be renting this house again...

Felt like home

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have been visiting McCloud since we were married there in 1998. This time we learned of the Rainbow House on line. Two other friends joined us and we each had our dog. It was so nice not to worry about leaving them behind and the fenced yard was great. The weather was cool and rainy and it was a delight to have cut pine and kindling stacked on the porch to use in the wood stove. We loved the recliners in front of the stove and my husband especially enjoyed climbing into bed with the flannel sheets. The cupboards were stacked w/coffee, spices, and little extras and all the cookware we could need. It was so nice that we all had our own bedroom with private bath. The house was so comfortable we wanted for nothing. This will be our new home away from home while in McCloud.

Love it!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for letting us to stay at your beautiful Rainbow House. It is wonderful! We slept on cloud-like beds and prepared food on biggest range I've ever used (we love preparing food on gas range, because result is much testier than on electric). We hope to return to your place again and we will recommend Rainbow House to our friends.

Outstanding Home away from Home!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you... Thank you.... Thank you!!

Mimi you are fantastic for sharing your wonderful McCloud house. We recently spent 3 nights in one of the most charming, warm and clean places I've seen! When I opened the cupboards and saw the type of coffee (Don Francisco's Hazelnut Hawaiian) I squealed with joy as I had forgotten to bring my coffee....what are the odds? Pretty high. This home away from home is equipped with everything you need and I cannot wait to come back and spend more time! My granddaughter loved the front porch swing, waking us up and sitting with us on the front porch while the rest of us enjoyed our morning coffee! We have many friends on the street and folks just walked down to say hello and visit. Absolute Heaven! We highly recommend and loved every minute of it! Thank you again. Stanley & Beth Nicholas

Map

Mt Shasta Hatchery
Fowlers Campground
Car: necessary

Shasta Rainbow House is a fantastic central base camp for winter sports (skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling) and summer fun (fly fishing the legendary waters of the Cascades: McCloud, Fall, Pitt, Klamath, and Sacramento Rivers as well as the abundant lakes and reservoirs in the area). If that's not enough, there's hiking, rock hounding, mushroom hunting, square dancing, quilting, and just being with family and friends. The house is two blocks from the Mercantile, the hub of 'downtown' McCloud, and a few more to the dance hall. Bocci Ball courts and baseball fields are available nearby at Hoo Hoo Park.

Recently renovated with refinished pine floors, the house has maintained it's charm with the original pine counters and cabinets, cozy wood stove (wood provided), porch swing, and view of the mountain. Few kitchens are better stocked. Each of the three bedrooms has it's own full bathroom with dual water heaters. There's a hand stamped patio for backyard BBQing and two separate fenced areas for canine companions.
