Our stay was amazing - beautiful property with beautiful views! We loved seeing deer, view of the the pond nearby and the sky is so clear, you can see satellites and shooting stars very well. The owners were so detailed and friendly to leave treats and firewood for the fire pit on the patio. We stayed outside every evening. We plan to return, as the peacefulness and proximity to local attractions that they even recommended was perfect. Loved this booking!
Had a lovely weekend stay with my sister. It was so peaceful while being close to everything we had planned.

We are so sorry we missed both of you. It was a busy weekend for us and when we started to come over on your last morning you were already gone! We had squash and pumpkins to give you. We hope you come back for a visit and we can meet the two of you.
This was one of our absolute favorite VRBO homes we have ever stayed in! The house is gorgeous, perfectly clean, so beautifully designed and decorated, the property is amazing, the location can't be beat! It more than exceeded our expectations. The owners are lovely, so kind and helpful. We started planning a return trip before we even left! Can't wait to come back.
Great house, great location, great hospitality, always a great time! Complete relaxation - we love to come out here an unwind…

The stars at night at stunning. And the sunrise was breath taking as well. The dogs, my husband, and I enjoyed every moment! It was so nice to let them run off lead. I think they’ll be sleeping soundly well into the new year.

Mother daughter getaway/ Dead and Co concert in Bristow
The property was accurately described, very peaceful and serene setting, very clean. Nice spot to return to after our daily adventures. The owners were very kind and helpful! Will definitely return!
Simply wonderful stay! First time using VRBO and lucked out with the best hosts!!! They left us lovely goodies in the rental and provided a warm welcome and great conversation throughout our stay. Wonderful property and beautiful surrounding area full of things to do. 100% recommend.
Another perfect weekend - thank you for having us and we look forward to coming back in late August! Easy to access, immaculately clean, thank you for the responsive notes back we expanded our stay - twice! We enjoyed chatting on Sunday morning - thank you for the kind going away gift - very generous!
This trip was purchased for a friend who needed to "get away", as a birthday gift. She loved how peaceful and beautiful the property was, and enjoyed the wineries and hiking that are close by. Her pup also enjoyed the fresh air! Thank you for a lovely stay!

We loved meeting Jessica and her adorable and well trained dog Kaia. We had a Birthday cake that unfortunately didn’t give to Jessica since we kept missing her. She is welcomed back here with her great Golden doodle any time.
Everything about this place was just perfect! It is truly a hidden gem and we really had a memorable stay here. The cottage is tastefully decorated and super clean, with beautiful views from every window. We had a welcome package waiting for us (wine/cheese/chocolates) and the owner gave the kids mini pumpkins as we were checking out. Very kind, thoughtful owner with excellent communication. Will definitely be coming back here again.
This home is so peaceful & the views are amazing. We enjoyed sitting out back every evening watching the deer graze. It’s close to multiple wineries & caverns. The wonderful hosts left wine & snacks for us upon arrival. Also made a lovely floral arrangement for us to take home. A little piece of Heaven…highly recommended
This is a wonderful home at the end of a long gravel driveway set overlooking large fields with a beautiful mountain backdrop. We experienced one of the most beautiful sunsets the evening we arrived and were able to enjoy some wine while sitting and watching our dog explore to her heart’s content. The hosts are very communicative and absolutely respected our privacy. They even provided some winery recommendations for the area. We will absolutely be coming back to enjoy this little slice of heaven!

Sparkling clean! Easy check in. Beautiful views. We loved our stay here!!
This place is a hidden gem!! My husband and I have traveled to the area at least a dozen times in the past 6 months and have stayed in hotels, B&B’s, cabins, etc. This was by far the nicest accommodations we’ve found. Pics don’t do it justice!
The cottage appears to be either new construction or newly renovated; bathroom was spacious and like new, kitchen has all new appliances. The bed was very comfortable with crisp clean linens. Even the pillows on the bed were new (I always bring my own pillows because you never know what your going to get).
I didn’t get to the cottage until 10pm and had no problem getting the keys with the lockbox code. First thing I noticed was a bottle of red wine waiting for me on the table. A great greeting after a 6 hour drive!
A fresh bag of coffee for the coffee maker, A new carton of coffee creamer in the fridge, bottled waters, a few snacks, etc.
The cottage was private and felt very homey. The main house is just at the end of the cottage driveway. James (the host) told me via VRBO messenger to text him if we needed anything.
In the morning, from the back windows, we saw deer playing in the rolling fields. In the evening we sat outside with a bottle of wine and watched a beautiful sunset from the little paver patio which had a table and chairs.
I’m looking forward to staying here again and would recommend it to anyone!

Hi Kelly,
I am so happy you enjoyed your stay at the property in the beautiful countryside in Markham. I would be very pleased to host both you and your husband again.....you were great guests.. Thanks James
Back again for another visit - I now refer to this property as "the Markham House" to friends of mine because I have mentioned it and stayed so often! The location cannot be beat, the hosts are SO kind and thoughtful (there's snacks and drinks and coffee and creamer for when you arrive, along w/soap and shampoo/conditioner if you forgot anything!), and staying here is just perfect for myself and a friend for a weekend away. We love poking around the local wineries, the pick-your-own farms in the area when they're in season, and downtown Front Royal and Strasburg, and even The Plains. The location cannot be beat!!
One thing we noticed this trip was a significant upgrade to the wifi - we were able to log in to streaming services and keep up w/show episodes or put a movie on while cooking vs. leaving it up to chance w/whatever was on TV. GREAT little upgrade that made our trip that much more pleasant. We can't wait to be back again, hopefully timing it well with a new moon and good weather for more star gazing!!
My partner and I had an incredible stay at this property. The cottage is clean but also warm and inviting. The views of the farmland and nearby lake are beautiful in the evenings and early in the mornings. We enjoyed a nice glass of wine out back before dinner. You are also in driving distance to TONS of wineries and local hikes, The owners were super friendly and very accommodating- provided us with wine and snacks upon check in and little pumpkins when we left. 10/10 would recommend!
My husband, two girls and dog wanted a mountain weekend away. This property fit the bill! We had access to fun things (apple picking) and wineries. The property was pristine. They even have us a pumpkin and little gourds from their garden. We will book again!
We stayed here for our one year wedding anniversary! Pictures do not do justice. A wonderful, cute little place and we’ll equipped. The hosts left us wine and cheese for our visit and even surprised us with a. few pumpkins from their garden. Will be staying again next year!
If you need lodging in the area, definitely stay here! It’s roomy and comfortable and so clean. The host has gone above and beyond in making it the perfect stay, with thoughtful touches everywhere. The bed is very comfortable with nice linens; lots of fluffy towels; the cheese and crackers and wine was especially appreciated on arrival. There are just too many things to list! Added to it all are gorgeous mountain views from every window. Definitely stay here - you’ll be glad you did. I sure was!
