About John McLarin

Our cabin was built by my great uncle back in 1934, which we renovated back in 2009. We have been able to share this special place with 100's of guests over the past years

John McLarin purchased this cabin in 2009

Why John McLarin chose Shenandoah Valley

Location, location, Location- Our cabin is the perfect home base for all your outdoor activities and adventures in the Shenandoah Valley. Our log cabin is secluded and built on a 100 foot cliff above the Shenandoah River with 35 acres of privacy. The Shenandoah River State Park and the Skyline Drive northern entrance are both only a ten minutes drive. The newly built Canopy Tours zip line was just open in the summer of 2014 which takes over 3 hour to complete. If you’re more interested in water activities; swimming, fishing or boating is all just a walk or 10 minute ride. There are three boating companies in the area which offer numerous options for floating down the river. Did someone say wine tasting? There are over 30 wineries within 30 minutes of our cabin with new ones opening every year. We hope you will choose our home base for a memorable getaway.

...rustic-but-comfortable log cabin, at the end of a long gravel road, perched all alone over the river like a tree house.

Relaxation with a fabulous view

  • 4 of 5

This was the perfect get-away spot for my wife and I. Restored log cabin; awesome river view; even better sunset view; close to the National Park and to wineries. The weather was perfect when we were there, so we spent all of our waking hours and ate our meals on the deck overlooking the river. The walkway leading down to the river is tricky and the cliff in front of the cabin is quite steep, so if you have small kids this place may not be best suited. The cabin itself is very comfortable; there is a functional heat pump for heat and AC; the bathroom (while small) is adequate; and the kitchen has anything you need for basic meal prep. Bring your own charcoal for the grill, because this is the perfect spot to grill some steaks, open a bottle of the local wine, and relax.

Simply wonderful

  • 5 of 5

We greatly enjoyed our stay at Cozy Cabin. It is such an authentic log cabin, and with the weather cold and rainy, I wouldn't have wanted to have been anywhere else. Clean, comfortable bed, lots of books and informational pieces about the area. But of course, the view. We saw the mountains and the river when it was misty, rainy, sunset, sunrise, and each was unique. Very peaceful and extremely quiet. Saw an osprey circling overhead, and then when she caught a fish, sat in a nearby tree to feast. We are looking forward to returning.

Unique mountain cabin experience

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was nice, and the setting was stunning. We enjoyed the path down to the river. When we arrived the linen had not been taken out from the previous occupants, and we only had 1 towel to use for our stay. Other than that, everything was wonderful.

We loved our stay!

  • 4 of 5

All, We loved our stay. We celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary in the. Oozy Cabin and it was perfect. We received a special present from the owners. We had the area all to ourselves since there were no guests at the other two cabins, but it would not have mattered since the the other cabins are far enough away. We would slowly wake up in the morning to the sound of birds and the occasional train, that runs near by. I believe we had the best view of the river and the mountains, and we could site on the deck, with a glass in our hand and quietly hear the rapids in the distance. Very soothing. There were multiple deer, wild birds and many sitings of Bald Eagles. Pretty cool. We brought along charcoal and grilled out one night but cooked breakfast or dinned out at the many eating places in Front Royal, Luray and points in between. There were no problems. Very convenient to DC and other attractions in "The Valley". We plan to return.. Excellent time.

Absolutely beautiful views. Wonderful Cabin- highly recommend

  • 5 of 5

We were very impressed with this cabin. We wanted to have a quiet weekend getaway and that's exactly what this Cozy Cabin offered and definitely delivered. There were many wonderful ammeneties, such as linen and towel service. The kitchen has nice appliances and plenty of cookware, measuring cups, etc, though I would recommend bringing your own knives if you plan on doing any serious cooking as many were dull. There were only two comments that could be improved upon, we did find a few filthy utensils that the previous renters did not clean that were put away- one spatula was coated with what looked like pancake batter. I know this in no way is a reflection on the cabin or owner, but would recommend maybe having the cleaning crew spot check to make sure renters clean up after themselves. The other was that the fire place was left with a lot of ash, we had a hard time finding something to clean the ash up in. The fireplace is an amazing feature of this cabin and we loved using it, but it would have been really nice to have the fireplace cleaned and maybe even staged to have a fire ready to go. All in all we had a fantastic experience and I highly recommend anyone who wants a quiet, beautiful place to vacation to check out this cabin. The owner was very responsive and very easy to work with.
