About John McLarin

Our cabin was built by my great uncle back in 1934, which we renovated back in 2009. We have been able to share this special place with 100's of guests over the past years

John McLarin purchased this cabin in 2009

Why John McLarin chose Shenandoah Valley

Location, location, Location- Our cabin is the perfect home base for all your outdoor activities and adventures in the Shenandoah Valley. Our log cabin is secluded and built on a 100 foot cliff above the Shenandoah River with 35 acres of privacy. The Shenandoah River State Park and the Skyline Drive northern entrance are both only a ten minutes drive. The newly built Canopy Tours zip line was just open in the summer of 2014 which takes over 3 hour to complete. If you’re more interested in water activities; swimming, fishing or boating is all just a walk or 10 minute ride. There are three boating companies in the area which offer numerous options for floating down the river. Did someone say wine tasting? There are over 30 wineries within 30 minutes of our cabin with new ones opening every year. We hope you will choose our home base for a memorable getaway.

In Warren County the river offers calm waters for a leisurely canoe ride and rapids ideal for kayaking. Boating, rafting and tubing also are popular. Perfect escape for our family!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time during our weekend stay at Cozy Cabin. It was so peaceful and relaxing and just what we needed to recharge. The cabin was very clean and provided everything that we needed to enjoy our stay. The AC is nice and cold and that's very important to me. The pups had a great time exploring nature close to the cabin and the view from the deck was amazing. It was secluded so we had no one else to deal with just us and nature. Thanks for allowing us to enjoy your cabin. We will definitely be returning!

Very nice quiet get-away.

  • 3 of 5

Place was perfect for the quiet weekend we wanted-except for building across the river. Once that is done-will be all good again. Very clean inside. Out side could have been a bit cleaner and the stairs and bench fixed. No internet to be had. (a limb fell on one of the wires outside-maybe on internet wire?)

All of that was ok-only a musty smell was noticeable in the house upon arrival. You get used to it. When you leave and come back, then you smell it all over again.

Except for the smell, I would go back again. Hopefully this odor will be addressed.

Thanks for the nice time.

Beautiful setting, minor updates would make it perfect!

  • 4 of 5

The house and area are wonderful. We could not connect to the Internet, tried many times. Television would not connect as well. A mouse had been in kitchen toaster and dishwasher fell apart when we used and didn't clean dishes, we reassembled inside arm. I cut my finger on the broken shower knob. Ripped screen upon arrival gives a bad impression. We loved your resources about the area. Thank you for sharing your cabin with us!

Loved the Cozy Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed for 11 nights late July to start august. Beautiful cabin and scenery: Nice kitchen, clean and equipped with everything we needed. Living room we didn't use much as we mostly sat on the nice padio and overall wasn't there much. When we were, we felt at home. Nice bathroom, clean and again equipped with everything we needed.

The nature and overview is beautiful, and animals are right outside. We saw a black bear right outside the cabin - wandering past us and our car. Saw a possum, several squirrels and a lot of birds.

The cabin is located central to both Front Royal and Luray, and there are a few minutes ride to the Skyline Drive, which is amazing! Easy access to a lot of highways and many attractions!

Furthermore John is an amazing host! We had a very nice mail correspondance prior to our visit, and when we mixed up dates, he reacted quick and was kind to help us sort it out! We highly recommend both the Cozy Cabin and John as a host! <3

Loved Cozy Cabin

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I, and our two daughters, had a great weekend at the Cozy Cabin. The beautiful views, surrounding nature, and charm of the old wood cabin took us away from the hustle-bustle. The walkway down to the river is a little tricky, but worth the adventure. We'll be back!
