Best Ocean Sunrise & Sound Sunset Views for 100 miles 3 acres Oceanfront Corolla
Sunnybank is an Oceanfront Majestic 6 bedroom estate, on 3 Elevated Acres, located only 2 miles into the 4-wheel drive section in the Outer Banks of Carova/Corolla. We are home to the famous wild horses. Why go on an expensive 3-hour tour when you can be stay for the whole week?
All 3 BUILDINGS COME WITH THE RENTAL. Sunnybank is on a 23-foot elevation overlooking the dark blue Atlantic Ocean, Currituck Sound, Corolla Lighthouse & the famous Monkey Island and boasts of the best views for 100 miles.
We do early Bird Speicals for 2019 & 2020 with lower rates until January.
Amenities include: oceanfront gazebo, elevator, pool and kiddy pools, 2 hot tubs, more screened in covered decks then any other rentals, kayaks, surf & boogie boards, beach chairs & umbrellas, gourmet kitchen, commercial steamer & ice machines, theater room, the very best Ocean Sunrise and Sound Sunset views in the OBX, plus so much more.
Best of all we do a Friday to Friday week in order to save you wasted hours in the weekend traffic. The entire island (500,000+) turns over on Sat & Sun and is funneled into 2 roads. You'll coast in on Friday, do your shopping and be hanging around the pool while the other 500,000 are stuck in traffic for an extra 5 hours.
Because the number of properties in Carova is limited, and because Carova's reputation of being one of the last true deserted beach vacation destinations is one of the Outer Banks' worst kept secrets, vacation homes can go fast. It's generally recommended that you book 10 months or more in advance for our prime weeks that go fast.
If the dates you need are booked please consider our beautiful 6 bedroom Victorian mansion in the heart of Duck village, an incredible location where you can walk to everything. The landscaping and trees are so fantastic that you feel like you are in a lovely countryside estate also advertised On Home Away & VRBO.

Our turnkey OBX Estate compound includes all the Toys, Kayaks, Surf & Boogie Boards to make your holiday with us the best ever which saves you hundreds in rentals on fun equipment so everyone can play together!
Arguably the Outer Banks' last frontier, Carova is renowned for its miles of privacy, including clean white beaches, a scattering of rental homes, and wild mustangs that roam freely from the ocean to Carova's small residential neighborhoods. Carova's seclusion is easy to explain, as there are no paved roads leading to this vacation spot, just miles of sand tracks that border the Atlantic Ocean. Vacationers who love the beach and don't need all the extra fuss flock to the area in small crowds, soaking up private stretches of beaches, and enjoying the peace and quiet.
Located only 2.2 miles up the beach in the four wheel drive territory of Carova. Yes, that means you do need a SUV 4 wheel drive or truck to drive in the 4-wheel drive area. That is why they call it the 4-wheel drive area. Some locals only have 2-wheel drive trucks but they have been driving on sand all their lives. There is nothing difficult about it as long as you let some air out of your tires. You can drive on 20 pounds of pressure all week. There is no reason to fill your air all week until you are ready to drive back home.
The local gas station/convenience store, restaurants, Whale Head Club, Corolla Light house and most of the attractions are approximately 3 to 5 miles away. Less than 10 minutes from the Food Lion shopping complex offering unlimited shopping, restaurants, bars, golf and a movie theater.
Rated Best Undiscovered Beach on East Coast with the most spectacular Ocean to Sound views imaginable. True oceanfront living tempts you to enjoy wild mustangs grazing in your own yard, star lit walks along the beaches, waking up to the surf and exploration of the Sound in a relaxing environment.

The large screened in pavilion is the 3rd building. It has a Ping-Pong table, long shuffleboard table and other outdoor games along with a picnic table and additional seating, sink, cabinets and stereo.
There are decks on both side of the pavilion. The large oceanfront one has a charcoal grill with plenty of oceanfront seating. The covered deck on the opposite side has a large gas grill area and big SS sink with a pass through into the pavilion.
All walkways are ramped so between that and the elevator there is no need to ever have to walk up steps if those knees or hips aren’t working so great.
Anyone up for a day at the beach? With 11 miles of secluded shoreline, it's safe to assume that a lot of your vacation time will be spent seaside.
Lounge under an umbrella or canopy, catch up with friends and family
Sip a beverage and watch the kids play
Throw frisbees, play bocce ball
Wade, swim, surf and body board
Pick up seashells
Take a relaxing walk along the shore
Spot and photograph wild horses
The ocean temperature stays consistently warm throughout the summer months and into the fall season, so body boarding, surfing, stand up paddle boarding, and ocean kayaking are certainly worth a try during your beach vacation. Many vacationers keep their camera ready for wild horse sightings, and the Carova wild mustangs can often be seen wandering along the oceanfront. Take plenty of pictures, but be sure and keep your distance - these wild horses may look and act docile, but they are feral and can be spooked by approaching humans.
When NC Highway 12 ends, a ramp to the beach begins which runs parallel to the ocean and accesses the communities of Seagull, Penny's Hill, Swan Beach, North Swan Beach and Carova. The 11 mile stretch of shoreline. Sunnybank is right in front of Penny's Hill and one of the first vacation rental homes. Makes it easier than driving down another 8 miles when you need a milk or a case of beer.
By the time NC Highway 12 was completed all the way to Corolla in 1984, the government as well as private investors had already laid claim to much of the undeveloped land, forming refuges, parks and reserves, and a paved road through the area became impossible. A few homes were built, and continue to be developed for beach lovers, but it seems that Carova will always enjoy the distinction of being separate from the paved and popular southern towns of Corolla, Duck and Southern Shores, and worlds away from the traditional vacation.

We love water and the ocean so when we found Sunnybank on 3 oceanfront acres it was perfect, especially because of all the wild horses. Because we do a Friday to Friday change over day we save 5 or 6 hours coming to our house and leaving to go back home to PA instead of wasting it driving in weekend traffic. This was our first time renting this property and I have to say we were not disappointed. The house was huge!! There were 12 of us and we had a lot of room to spread out. The house was clean and had everything we could possibly need. The theatre room was awesome as it rained one day and we watched a couple of movies. There were games and movies. The ice machine was a fantastic thing to have. You can literally just pack your clothes and food and go!! There were a lot of pool toys and floats available also. I would definitely stay here again!!! Also Karen was a dream to work with. Very responsive.
Karen and Mike were wonderful hosts. And the house was unbelievable. I would recommend this house to anyone wanting to visit the outer banks. The horses walked by the house everyday and were up close and personal. Unbelievable week and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you so much. Definitely on our bucket list for the next time.
Thanks again for choosing Sunnybank, oceanfront on 3 acres. Glad you had such a great time. We weill really look forward to your return.
Have a great day!

Great vacation for extended family !
Very nice place. Well maintained. Owner was good to deal with. We prefer King beds rather than queens. We are NFL sized people. Would stay again.
It was a pleasure having you stay at Sunnybank. We look forward to your return.

BEST SPRING BREAK VACATION EVER!!!
Sunnybank is absolutely amazing! There were 12 of us, 4 adults and 8 high school seniors and we had so much room and had such a wonderful time!!!! We played board games, shot pool, swam, sun bathed and even saw some wild horses. We didn't want to leave! Thank you Karen and Mike!
What a wonderful group of very polite well mannered young people. My pool/spa manager said they were a pleasure to be around and had so much respect for everything. Thanks for choosing Sunnybank for your graduation vacation. Hope you will come back soon or try our other estate, the Saltaire, in Duck also featured on Home Away.

Perfect home in the perfect local
My family (teens and preteens) stayed in August 2016 and loved it! The house is as advertised. Big, beautiful and in an awesome location. Sunrise and sunset from the same deck off the third floor. Wild horses roaming the yard. So convient to have all the chairs, coolers, boogie boards, surf boards, skim boards right here at the house. Load the truck up and drive onto the beach to find your perfect spot for the day. Easiest beach vacation ever!! I had one minor problem with the wifi password (user error) and Karen was so quick to respond. Great house to come together when you want and to hide in one of the many hang out spots when you don't!
Fantastic to hear you all had such a nice family vacation and enjoyed all the toys at Sunnybank. Our estate, The Saltaire in Duck is set up the same way. Maybe next trip you can try staying at both!
