We loved butterfly breeze! What a great house. Plenty of room for our family of ten. Our 6/7 year olds spent hours each day in the pool. This was our fourth time on the island. We will definitely stay at B Breeze again!
We had a great family vacation staying at butterfly breeze! We ended up being there during Hurricane Helene and the owner and propriety managers went above and beyond to ensure we were safe and comfortable. The pool and game room are great and
Tollie was very accommodating and so were the managers(Helen and her husband) ! Butterfly Beach is a wonderful house and had everything we needed. The pool and hot tub were fabulous!
Loved the house! Several nights spent in the outdoor game room. Beautiful views from the decks, short walk or ride to the beach. It was a beautiful getaway to enjoy some family time.
This house has everything you need for a great, relaxing vacation! The house is beautiful and comes with a fully stocked kitchen, great outdoor space with a pool, spa, and screened-in game area. The house is very conveniently located to the beach and the use of the golf carts makes it easy to get to where you are going. I look forward to staying here again next year!
This house has it all! Plenty of indoor and outdoor living spaces, games, well stocked kitchen/baths. Getting to the island is fun and just a touch confusing. We loved North Captiva and can’t wait to come back to the Butterfly house
These hosts think of everything! The kitchen could not be stocked better - has spices, all the gadgets you could want or need to cook, awesome coffee bar, and they supplied us a cooler and ice for the beach. They were quick to respond to questions. Pool/hottub were awesome and the outdoor activities rocked for our kiddos (8/11/14/14/17). Would definitely recommend this house to families!
We spent a week at the house and it was fantastic. Perfect location: the pool area is very private yet it is just a short walk to a gorgeous beach and a quick golf cart ride into town. You can watch the sunrise or sunset from the roof deck or the screen porch (or the beach right near the house). Beds were very comfortable, the kitchen had everything we needed and we loved the game area near the pool. AND having a hot tub was especially great for cooler days or at night! I had one minor question during our stay and the owner got back to me immediately.
The house was beautiful and well equipped. The pool was very nice, but the hot tub was low on water, apparently due to a leak. The only real problem we had all week was that the golf carts that were provided were not able to hold a charge and kept breaking down so we went through four different, substandard golf carts over the course of a week. One of them even died in the middle of the island after about an hours use, and we were told to just leave it on the side of the road.Other then being unable to explore the entire island due to the golf cart issue, the stay was amazing!
We had a fabulous time at this gorgeous property. The kitchen is very well-stocked, and there are lots of entertainment items- with games and puzzles upstairs and game-room downstairs. Even a wine fridge and bar accessories! Plenty of space inside and out for all to find their vacay zen. Just a short walk/ or golf cart (if taking the comfy chairs/umbrella provided) ride down the lane to the beautiful beach. I would say the only downside is North Cap and surrounding islands are still recovering from Ian, restaurant and bar options are limited. However, if you're looking for a family & or friends self sufficient getaway, this is a great spot!
Butterfly Beach is a wonderful place to enjoy North Captiva and the surrounding islands from. The home is in excellent condition with no apparent residual damage from Ian. The game area is enclosed with screen and was very enjoyable in the evenings. The pool is beautiful. The hot tub was clean and available but we did not use due to the weather. The kitchen is perfectly equipped and all bedrooms well appointed and comfortable. The island location is perfect for beach and Island club access alike. Tollie (host) was always available and quick to respond to any questions.
We had a wonderful week at this property. We were greeted by the property owners parents, which added a nice personal touch to our stay. Many late nights playing pool, ping pong and shuffle board. Beautiful walk down a sandy path to the beach or a quick walk to the paths in the reserve. Two golf carts gave us plenty of flexibility for getting around. Kids enjoyed the pool as well, which was a nice option when returning from the beach. Outdoor shower was very convenient for rinsing off ourselves and our small dog. We felt really lucky to spend a week in this special spot. Thank you for sharing your home!
We had a great time the whole week at Butterfly Breeze. The weather and accommodations were perfect and as advertised. The rooms were just right for all of us to have our own space and gather on the deck, crows nest or living room together. Didn't do much with the games below since the weather was so great we were on the beach almost all of the time. We did take advantage of the pool and spa after a day at the beach just to relax and cool off a bit. We've been to NCI 11 times now and this home ranks right up at the top of the homes we've stayed at and are already planning for our 2025 trip back to NCI. Thanks for allowing us the use of your wonderful home. We'll be back!!
First and foremost, the owners and managers were wonderful to deal with. We were cancelled from another property the night before we were to arrive. They helped us get booked quickly and made the transition (for what could have been very difficult) seamless. The home is beautiful and very clean. They truly took time to stock this home as they would want it to be if they were staying somewhere, especially the kitchen! We’ve been a repeat visitor to North Captiva for many years now and this is one of the best homes on the island. It’s very close to the beach and we watched the sunrise every morning from the crow’s nest. We will absolutely book this home again.
My brother's & my family had a wonderful visit! Our hosts were so helpful with transporting all the luggage from the ferry over to the house & back. It was evident that they have a love for this special island as they recounted stories of their sea turtle research & local knowledge. The house was spacious & comfortable for all 9 of us, including our 1-year-old daughter (they were ready with a baby gate & high chair). Between the pool & Gulf, I think our 5-year-old spent more time in the water than he did on dry land. It's a short, straight shot via golf cart to the best beach on the island (a great place to watch the sunset). I would highly recommend this house to my friends & family. Thanks for the accommodations & wonderful hospitality!
I have to be honest. I didn’t realize we were going to an island but have been told that I’m not the first person to make that mistake. Having said that, the house was lovely and in a good location on the island. We spent a lot of time at the house pool, beach and at the table playing games. It was good quality family time! We took a boat over to Captiva Island one day and walked around for a change of pace. Thanks for sharing your house with us!
North Captiva Island is one of Florida's best kept secrets. We did not know what to expect when we got there. The beaches are amazing. We walked through the nature preserve from the house and had our own private beach. The water was a perfect temperature and completely clear. We love that there are not any cars and that everyone drives golf carts. I felt completely safe with our teenagers driving around the island.
The house was a better version of our home. There are so many activities for our teenagers: swim, play pool, shuffleboard, table tennis. Everything in the home is either brand new or in great condition. We love the open floorplan and the screened porches. The sunset views from the hawks next were breathtaking.
We loved the location of the house, I even preferred it over water front because of the wooded privacy and the shade trees.
We will likely be back.

Great property but needs some updates
Property is in a great location, had a great pool area and game room. Be prepared for lots of stairs as there are two flights just to get to a bathroom. Kitchen has everything you'll need, minus muffin tins. Property manager is great to deal with. There is plenty of room for multiple families, but property needs some serious updates. At the price point ($6K), I would expect furniture without tears/damage or extensive staining and quality golf carts. Blankets were used on the couch hide the tears. During our visit the hot tub was damaged and unavailable. The golf carts had apparently been damaged by previous guests, got us from point A to point B, but very very slowly. Overall a good stay but won't stay again unless there are updates. We've stayed at other properties on the island for a lot less and property in much better condition.

Hi Melissa,
Thank you so much for the honest feedback. We are sorry you had some disappointments in your stay at our home. We just purchased a brand new sectional couch based on your feedback and as you know had a repair man there to fix the spa the day after you checked and and we found out it was not working. We’ve never had requests for muffin tins before, so we’ve made the purchase for some to now be available. As for the Golfcarts, we do intentionally keep that golf carts slow as it makes sure to keep all of our guests safe. After all, even as the golf carts are, it o my takes 5 min to drive across the entire island. After these updates, we hope you consider us again for your next stay at Butterfly Breeze!
The house itself was nice. Not real accommodating for anyone with problems going up and down steps. Needs a half bath in the game room/ pool area (would definitely save on tracking in sand and footprints).
The owner stabbed us with an additional $525 on the day of check-in. Most places (including Disney) don’t charge for infants under 1 therefore we did not expect to have to pay for the 10 month old but he told us if we didn’t pay we couldn’t check in! Knowing we would lose all our money we had already paid we had to pay the additional fee. I felt this was wrong but all he cared about was $$$$. Other than that all of our needs/concerns were met, such as when the water went out, it was taken care of promptly.
IF we were to eve vacation in North Captiva again. I will not book with this host. I prefer using a property manager such as tortega.
My wife and I had decided to take our children (6 & 9) to N. Captiva for Spring Break. With everything going on this year we postponed and the owners were absolutely awesome about working with us to reschedule. We decided to ask another family of 4 (that had been sheltering in place just like us) as it seemed prudent yet a much needed break. Ferry = Easy/Fun. Welcoming on Island = Extremely pleasant/informative. The owners warned us about mosquito's prior so were were prepared with bug spray...no big deal (summer months in FL what do you expect). House was great for pool, hot tub, family fun (games on screened in level!), cooking, dinners, and also has several social areas for breaking away for alone time/reading. Beach was close/fun. 3 golf carts! All we really needed to take was food (beverages:)), swim suits, and tooth brushes...everything else was high end and ready to go. Also I was very impressed that I texted the owner about dinner and excursions while there (poor planning by me it seems) and he replied within minutes and we set up a fishing excursion for the kids. All around highly recommend. We will be back!

Exactly what we expected and more! Thank you for sharing your beautiful butterfly beach home with others! Tropical, remote island makes it feel like we were really far away, especially with no cars, just golf carts, boats & walking. I also like the fact that there's only 1 television in the whole house so if you want to see a movie or event on TV then everyone congregates upstairs in one, big comfy room! Best sunset views I've seen in a while & I grew up in Florida! Great selection of DVDs, novels & games, plus, wonderful artwork all over the house created by owner. Beds and furnishings were super comfy, but our favorite part was exploring. Getting a fishing guide was the best idea we had with catching over 50+ large snook in the pass. Cindy was very helpful in coordinating our arrival with caretaker/ bellman , "Mr Sherman". It was Definitely a plus to rent a home with membership to the North Captiva Island Club. Their pools and equipment rentals kept everyone active. Our gang kept the local restaurant, Barnacles, in business from cobia fish tacos, lobster mac&cheese to yummy ice cream. If you have a fishing boat, like we do, it pays to make buddies at Barnacles with the mgr or Tyler and ask them to give your boat a "private" slip around back. A little farther driving the golf cart from house than the club's docks, but better overall for your boat- especially on busy holiday weeks like we had. Our favorite boat ride restaurants: Cabbage Key; Tarpon Lodge Restaurant (Pineland Marina) & Gramma Dots (Sanibel Marina)
Love North Captiva & Butterfly Breeze! Property manager was easy to reach, quick to respond, and connected us with resources to even get ice delivered to the house during our stay. Appreciated the owners at checkin walking the house with us, showing how everything worked, and answering questions. Made settling in so much easier. Same - at checkout asking us if anything needed to be addressed, fixed etc so all was cared for. Thermostat is set to 73 as the lowest temp, not uncommon, a bit warm for some (bedroom on top floor) - maybe adding a few box fans would help.
House included: TP, paper towels, olive oil, vegetable oil, coffee, Kcups, trashbags, dish soap, dishwasher soap, shampoo, hand soap, body wash, & laundry soap enough for our stay (confirm before you go)
Well stocked spice selection. Some appear they keep stocked, others are left from prior renters. (do bring flour or sugar if you need)
Beach chairs, umbrellas, tons of beach towels, pool floats all in great condition.
Knives were in great shape and had a good selection of cutting boards (we do a lot of cooking). No non-stick pots/pans, but has a great non-stick griddle that we used for pancakes/eggs to avoid sticking. (suggestion - metal spatula for the stainless)
Grill and Golf Carts worked - well loved but did the job. Blender was awesome.
Comfy beds, blankets, pillows.
We used Fresh Pick Grocery they were amazing, did pics with Ashley Merrill, Island Girl for ferry, Boats & Fun boat for the day.

Great location on an awesome island but the house is NOT as described & has safety issues
This was our first visit to N Captiva and we loved the island. The house was close to the beach which was nice. We were given a tour by the owner's mom & dad when we arrived and lots of troubling things were pointed out to us, by them: bunk beds weren't stable, washing machine has a broken part and needed to be manually adjusted every time you want to wash a load, shower on top level is slippery, etc. So that was all troubling to hear about from the owner's own mother. She was right about all of those things. In addition to many other things we discovered on our own within our first day of being there. We found 15 nails on the floor on the 2nd level deck!!! 2 of the 4 lightbulbs in the kids' bunk room were broken & shattered within the bulb and couldn't be replaced without replacing the entire fan. Also the owners LOCKED the thermostats and we were only allowed to set the air to 75-80* which is SO hot especially for our little kiddos. When we asked about this, the owner unlocked the thermostat so we were able to set it where we wanted. So we would set it to about 71* at bedtime but we would wake up drenched in sweat, go check the thermostat and the Nest thermostat had been raised to 77* remotely/automatically. The kids' bunk beds were VERY unsturdy, not secure or safe. Many of the chairs on the 2nd level deck area were rusted and had jagged legs on them. Very dangerous. When we called the owner to complain about all of these safety issues, he wasn't too helpful and was defensive. His brother, Tyler, ended up coming over to the house and HE was VERY helpful! He was able to fix a few of the wobbly areas on the bunk beds, helped pickup nails on the deck, removed 2 of the super rusted out chairs on the second level deck, and was very friendly and apologetic. So we were VERY thankful that Tyler was able to help with some of the issues. We would not stay at this house again. Like I said, the island itself is awesome, but unfortunately we will be looking for a different house on our next visit. Our kids' safety is always a TOP priority for us!

We greatly appreciate your feedback on your check-in experience, especially the nails left by the Construction/Renovation Crew. We had just finished the full renovation of the 4th floor observations deck because safety is our number one priority for our guests, and rushed to get the construction done before your stay. We have spoken to the contractor and he is also very apologetic about the oversight and has spoken to his crews. I know that doesn't make up for the experience, but I am glad that our property managers, specifically Tyler, was able to get the issue resolved within an hour of check-in.
Safety of our guests is our primary concern.
We have 2 small girls of our own and 15 nieces and nephews under the age of 10 who are frequently at our property. As such, we have replaced the fan in the bedroom and tightened the loose ladder on the bunk bed. We also do provide anti-slip shower mats in all of our bathrooms as a best practice, and have replaced them as well for good measure. Lastly, we will be renovating our 3rd Floor Deck and removing all existing furniture in the first week of November 2020. We can't wait to post new pictures of the fully renovated and updated outdoor living spaces.
In our two years of renting and over 50 guests staying at Butterfly Breeze, this is the first review under 5 stars and we want to use your feedback to ensure all future renters will have nothing but the best experience at our home. Thank you again for the feedback and have a nice day.
About the host
Hosted by Tollie & Vanessa Justice
Hi! I am Tollie and my wife is Vanessa. We currently live in the Palm Beach area, on the east coast of Florida. Both my wife and I are Native Floridians, and have known each other since High School.
We love to travel, explore, and visit new places with our 2 daughters, age 8 and 6, and our son, age 1. We also really enjoy lazy days by the beach and getting away from it all.
Using Vacation Rentals is our favorite way to travel and see new places, and we are very exited to be able to share our special corner of the world with the Vacation Rental community.
Why they chose this property
So, my family originally bought a house on North Captiva Island back in 1977, and in fact my parents still live in that house full time today.
Some of my earliest memories involve Golf Carts, White Sand Beaches, and Fishing Trips in the grass flats that surrounding the island. North Captiva quickly became a sanctuary for me and my family, and our favorite place to disconnect from the rest of the world.
Because of the unique nature and geography of the island, it has remained separated from the other Lee County Barrier Islands like Sanibel and Captiva, and only accessible by Boat. Despite that, the population of the island has driven it to get almost all of the comforts of home, and this is what contributes to North Captiva's distinct feel. You feel completely disconnected and isolated from the stress of the world, but you are not "Roughing It" in order to do so.
As my wife and I have grown, her first trip out to the island was at 16 with my family and I, we have come to realize that North Captiva is a great place for any group, of any size, who wants to get away. From big family get-togethers, playing board games, cards, and watching movies into the night, to romantic weekend getaways with my wife, and moonlit strolls down the secluded beach, North Captiva trips always had exactly what we were looking for.
In the end, we have come to look at North Captiva, and our home there, as our own little slice of paradise, and are excited to be able to share this with others looking for a truly unique "Private Island" experience without having to travel out into the middle of nowhere to get it. We Hope you will come stay at our house, and see what makes this little Island so special.
What makes this property unique
My wife Vanessa and I really want to make our property a "Home Away From Home", for ourselves, and anyone who would like to come and stay. To us, this means adding all of the comforts of home, as well as everything you didn't even know you wanted, but love to use.
From Pots, Pans, Utensils, and Appliances, to Linens, Sheets and Beach Towels, we want our guest to instantly feel like they are at their own house in a different location.
We also really want the House to be fun and have done major updates to the house to do so. From the Private Pool and Spa to the Screen Enclosed Downstairs Gaming Area with Pool Table, Ping Pong Table, 9' Shuffle Board Table, and Sitting Area, we want people to love staying here and spending the days playing in the sun.
One of the things we hate when traveling is the unexpected costs and disconnected ownership, so we really want to be a property that eliminates those things. From having items on site, that normally take additional rental dollars, like a 12' Stand Up Paddle board or fishing rods, to coordinating with guests to ensure they know all of the "Local Tricks" to keeping transportation costs down, we want to help out guests maximize their stay.
Also, with parents and family friends that live on the island, we have the unique capability to be very reactive to any issues that our guests may encounter.
In all, we want every guest at our house to love North Captiva the same way we do, and look forward to making that a reality. We welcome you to come stay at Butterfly Breeze, and fall in love with our home and the Island, and we look forward to talking with you soon.
