This cottage is situated with the beautiful Mullett Lake in front and the Northeast Central Trail for biking or walking behind. It is a lovely getaway! This was our second time this year and we loved it.
We had such a great time, the kitchen was well stocked as well as the bathroom with nice fluffy towels. We spent most of our time outside enjoying the lake, using the kayaks and fishing. The owners were were very kind and easy to communicate with.

So glad you enjoyed your stay - we're excited to have you come back and visit again!
The property was just beautiful! Private setting and a view to die for. Spending time on the Lakes and the River is so fun! We appreciate the opportunity to use this property. The owners were more than pleasant as well! Sorry about the Soccar balls!
This property and house are great! We were able to put our boat in the water a block away, and leave it in the water the whole vacation, attaching to a buoy. There is a dock we could load from. The water is amazing - hundreds of feet of belly button depth water for the kids to play in! Thanks for letting us stay - maybe we’ll see you again next year!

Great to have you come stay with us! Glad you enjoyed your visit!
The yellow cottage on Mullett Lake is outstanding. It was clean, spotless, outfitted with everything we needed for our week’s stay. There were wonderful flowers inside and out in the garden, attracting lots of birds. We liked watching the aerial acrobatics and dogfights of the hummingbirds. We used the mooring ball for my small sailboat. Swimming is great. Lots of good local restaurants and grocery stores. Good bike trails to Cheboygan and Mackinac City. I just loved the place.

Wonderful to have you come and stay with us again - always a treat!
When booking in Michigan, I was a bit worried about having no A/C in August as it is highly standard in Missouri, but the night air was so cool and the breeze was incredible being right near the lake. We had no trouble at all staying cool and comfortable in the evenings when we were inside the cottage. Plus they provided fans to help keep things cool as well. This property is a great location to be away from it all, but not too far away. We had breakfast at a cute little diner one town over and drove to Mackinaw City a few times as well. It was a great place to rest and recharge!
We weren't looking for a place that had a lot of attractions and tourist spots. We came for the Quiet, no stress and low key place right on the water. A bit too chilly for swimming, but not an issue for us. You can't control Mother Nature. And being able to bring our Fur Baby was a bonus. We hit a few good restaurants in Indian River and Cheboygan (a short drive each way). We also drove to Mackinaw City. The cottage was clean and had all the amenities provided. Thanks Lynn & Ken!

Wonderful to host you, hope you can come and stay with us again! ❤
We loved the little yellow cottage. We arrived to find it spotless and tidy, with everything we needed, uncluttered and neatly organized. Despite several days of rain and unseasonably cold weather during our stay, we found lots to do. We cycled 47 miles around Mullett Lake. We used the provided sit-upon kayaks to paddle 2 or 3 miles along the shoreline. We had a fine hike in the Agnes Andreae Nature Preserve, with its many dramatic overlooks of the Pigeon River. We had a day of good wind and weather, and got to sail our little S.C.A.M.P. sailboat. Ken's Village Market had everything we needed for groceries and supplies. We enjoyed eating at Cafe Noka, Topinabee Market pizza, Breakers, and, in Cheboygan, Alice's Restaurant. In short, we had a wonderful time and hope to return.

The house was SUPER clean and had everything we needed for the week. Since we weren't from the area, we didn't know how big Mullett Lake is - it's so clear! Lynn was helpful with questions before our stay. There were fresh flowers in all the rooms - and it made the whole cottage feel very homey. The deck was perfect for eating outside and watching the birds/boats. The location was central for the Headlands International Dark Sky Park and Mackinaw City/Island. We would definitely stay again, and recommend to friends traveling to the area.
The Yellow Cottage is just plain terrific. We've stayed here now 3 times. This was a perfect getaway for us as a retired couple. We could sail our sailboat, ride our bikes, visit nearby towns like Petoskey, Cheboygan, Charlevoix, Mackinaw Island. We enjoyed driving up to Whitefish Bay in the U.P. to visit the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum.
The "yellow cottage" and its owners were awesome. The view of the lake is beautiful and the cottage was spotless & comfortable. Wish we could have stayed longer.
The Yellow Cabin was amazing! We immediately noticed all of the finishing touches Lynn made to make our stay enjoyable. Fresh cut flowers in almost every room, nice candles, beautiful decor. This was the cleanest VRBO we've ever stayed at. The layout of the cabin is ideal with ample space for making dinner in the well appointed kitchen with open concept straight to the living area all with beautiful large windows facing the lake. Then with two separate doors to the private deck both from the sunroom and the kitchen made it convenient for grilling and for easy access to the fire pit out back for those cozy summer evening bonfires. The kitchen had all the essentials and some extras such as seasonings. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom was clean and had everything we needed, furniture was nice and comfortable. We played some of the board games and there were many extras of things like lotion, towels, blankets, pillows, fans, chairs, flashlights, etc... It felt like home for the week and I truly appreciate everything Ken and Lynn did to make it an enjoyable experience. I hope we can visit the Yellow Cabin again sometime soon.
For local activities.... Mullet Lake, Burt Lake and the inland waterway between the two were a wonderful boating experience. Sand bars on both lakes perfect for swimming. Cafe Noka for breakfast and lunch in Topinabee you should not miss. Drost's Ice Cream and Chocolate in Indian River is to die for. Petoskey and Mackinaw were close enough to drive within 30 minutes. We visited both for shopping and entertainment.
I hope you get a chance to experience everything the Yellow Cabin and the area have to offer.

2020 Fishing Trip
The boys and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Yellow Cottage! Everything was as advertised. We hope to come back next year!
Our family loved the cottage on the lake! It was sparkling clean when we arrived and filled with fresh flowers. We found it to be spacious and comfortable and very conveniently located (easy access to multiple beaches and the UP). We spent a lot of time at the house because of the beautiful views and relaxing deck, fire pit, and dock. We hope to return again!

Thanks for this lovely review, great to have you and the family visit, hope you can come and stay with us again. Lynn + Ken :)
Great location on Mullet Lake on private drive. Walking and snow mobile trail right across from cabin for easy access to recreation. Many good fishing spots close to the cabin. Great proximity to great kayaking on the Indian and Sturgeon Rivers. Cabin was very clean and well furnished... no need to leave. Only downside was the beds were pretty uncomfortable. Everything else was great!

Staying at the Yellow Cottage was truly our favorite place to stay. From the moment you walk in you can smell the cleanliness and feel the homey vibes. There are many things to do around the area and can reach many Michigan hot spots with a short scenic drive. Looking forward to visiting again!

About the host
Hosted by Ken and Lynn
Lynn and I currently live in Mt. Pleasant, which is where I grew up and later returned after living in Boston, Madison and Lacrosse Wisconsin. Lynn is a Wisconsin native, but has enjoyed living in Michigan across the pond so to speak! We have three kids at home and enjoy traveling in Michigan and exploring the National Parks out west.
Why they chose this property
We had been looking for a cottage up north for some time without much luck. Lynn's family has a cottage on a northern Wisconsin Lake and my Grandparents had a place on Torch Lake that was later sold when they passed away. I like to say we are lake people at heart, but in the quaint old school cottage sense, not the second mansion on the lake types.
So when we found The Yellow Cottage for sale we instantly fell in love with it as did our kids and my parents, who all were there for the first walk through. The double bonus was that Green Cottage to the north was for sale and my brother and his family were also looking for a place on a northern Michigan Lake.
Fast forward and we are all now coming into our 3rd summer at The Yellow Cottage. We continue to enjoy the cottage as much as possible, while also sharing it with guests who have been awesome.
We are not sure when it will really feel real, but we remain in awe of the beauty and feel fortunate to be able to enjoy and share our small slice of Mullett Lake and northern Michigan. Our family loves the area, the easy access to the trail, the clear Mullett Lake water and of course the old school Yellow Cottage. We hope you find it just as welcoming, relaxing and enjoyable as we have.
