Takes you back to yesteryear
My wife, dog, and I had a wonderful week in August at this cottage. One reason we picked this spot is because it offered a rowboat that enabled me to take my wife and dog out on the lake. All of the neighbors were very friendly and one even offered us the use of kayaks to explore the wetlands beyond the bridge. We took long walks every day up the highway and into Parrot's Pointe. Weather was generally warm and dry with the exception of two days mid-week. We went to Petoskey one day for shopping and ate lunch at Beard's Brewery (I recommend it). In fact you'll have to go to Petoskey, Harbor Springs, or Charlevoix for good food. We went to Cheboygan on the other poor weather day (don't bother). The water is very shallow for a good 100 yards from the beach and is perfect for small kids. Water was cold, but nice when you got used to it. Be sure to bring water shoes, there are small rocks and crushed shells on the lake bottom. Beautiful sunsets every day and the partial solar eclipse was spectacular. The cottage had all of the kitchen supplies, bedding, etc. you need. There is no Wi-Fi and Dish Satellite TV is provided. The queen bed was comfortable, and it was the best week of sleeping I've had since I was a kid. Several light bulbs were burned out in the cottage including two of the four light bulbs in the bathroom and the front porch. Either replace them as needed or make them available so the renter can do it. The tree in the picture provides ample shade from the late afternoon sun. Both charcoal and propane gas grills were available and we used both.
So glad you enjoyed your stay and slept well! It is always so relaxing for us as well. I love listening to the loons at night. Very sorry about the light bulbs, I will have the cleaning person check those from now on and get them swapped out. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
Never knew Heaven was so close
Words can't describe the 11 nights that we spent at this piece of Heaven on Earth! We were greeted by the most lovable Lady (Julie) who is the Mom of the owner and after explaining things, we started to enjoy the peace and quiet. During the first night's campfire a gentleman named Steve came over and introduced himself and was such a "book of knowledge". What a help he was through the entire trip. Believe me, these people that live around Grandma's are only there if you want or need something. They became Friends.
We took our 19' boat and kept it on a mooring ball that was very secure and with a pair of waders I was out fishing every morning by 6am. My wife broke her foot the week before but it did not stop us from doing the Inland Waterway twice and soaking in the nature. We had a severe storm the one day that did bring down some branches but left no visible damage except a few chairs but our new friends came to clean up the few branches that had fallen. The fire pit along the water has firewood supplied for the guests but we went into the woods and kept the supply full. The beautiful supplied paddle boat was out because of my wife's foot, but we took day trips to various Casinos and little restaurants in the area, some by water.
Lucky for us the owners had no guests booked for the following week so instead of leaving on the 17th, we stayed through the 22nd. The extra days gave us more time to watch the wildlife and more fishing time. We have traveled Michigan by motor home, travel trailer and in hotels but the time we got to spend at Grandma's is DEFINITELY the best vacation we have ever had in 33 years of Marriage.
I must state that the cleanliness of Grandmas is like no other. We will be back and Thank you for letting us enjoy your "Part of Heaven"
Nice . Beautiful lake and peaceful, quiet surroundings.
We had a really nice time.Loved the area and the walk in swim area was great for kids. Took both boats out a couple of times and enjoyed the sunsets and peaceful atmosphere. The only reasons I have given it a 4 instead of 5 rating i I felt like the sleep situation wasn't quite what we were hoping for(the futon was not adequate for adults to sleep on and was even a little uncomfortable for the kids.).im really not sure how 4 adults and 4 small children could comfortably fit since we had a little trouble with just 2 adults and 4 kids...but we made it work and over all really like the place☺We would definitely stay there again, but probably bring a couple air mattresses. The neighbors are friendly and helpful and we had some pizza from Villios in town that was super good!☺
My boyfriend and I loved our stay at the cottage during our vacation this year! It had everything we needed comfort wise and had spectacular views of the sunset. We had a great time exploring the lake on our boat and making day trips to Petoskey and Mackinac Island. Perfect location for up north getaway. We definitely plan on returning next summer!
Beautiful property, beautiful stay
We loved the cozy cottage! On a nice quiet spot on the lake with excellent water play area for kids. A prime spot to watch spectacular sunsets from the campfire. We would definitely stay again! Loved the paddle boat and row boat. House was comfortable and had everything we needed.
Awesome location, neighbors were very friendly
The family, including our dog Oreo, loved this cottage! We will be back. The house was clean & perfect size for a family of 5 and the private sandy walk into the lake was the absolute best!! The grounds had a great mix of trees and grassy areas to play soccer and football. The sandy bottom & shallow water for what seemed like 100 yards was perfect for the children to play, swim and fish along the deeper ledge in the row boat provided by the owners. We did bring our bikes and the neighborhood was perfect for the young children to ride in, but next year we will for sure do the local bike path to Mackinaw. The only wish we would have is that the cot that was offered for an additional person be replaced & the living room futon a smidge larger, definitely not a show stopper to come back :-) Thank you Sandy & Michael for sharing your "Grandma's Cottage", it was fantastic. This has already be recommended to other extended family members as well as close friends that are totally interested.
