About Ole Hammarlund and Karen Lips
We are architect(Ole)/landscape architects(Karen) with an interest in revitalizing the downtown. Ole is from Denmark and Karen is from Ottawa. We came to PEI 35 years ago and loved it here.
Ole Hammarlund and Karen Lips purchased this Condo in 2006
Why Ole Hammarlund and Karen Lips chose Queens Square
The Old YMCA attracted us by its lofty ceilings, grand spaces and the many hardwood floors. We love ballroom dancing and immediately imagined ourselves here. The Y was a much loved building used by almost every Islander some times in their life, but had closed down and sat empty for 2 years before we bought it and started to renovate it.
What makes this Condo unique
We love to cook and entertain, so we offer a welcome meal where we get to tell our guests what PEI has to offer. Our loft is in the western end of the old gym and still has the original hardwood floors. The dining table and kitchen table as well as the stairs are made of the bowling alley that used to be in the basement, which is now the indoor parking garage. There are 18 lofts in all, each one unique and different.

The loft was exactly as presented. The owners cooked a great meal for all of us the first night and this was the highlight of the trip. We drove around PEI and fell in love with the place and the people. We rented bikes and road the Confederation trail one day. Beautiful..don't hesitate..
We highly recommend this rental.
Fantastic owners and loft
Karen and Ole are the most generous and thoughtful owners, the loft is really superb, clean, modern and centrally located. Thank you guys. Will definitely come back again.
The loft was amazing! Great architecture, great hosts, great location!
We loved the place. It was big, with comfortable beds and well equipped barhrooms. It was located right downtown Charlottetown which made it easy to walk to shops and restaurants. We appreciated the security of the garage for our var. we enjoyed the delicious welcome dinner Ole and Karen cooked for us and we loved chatting with them. Fascinating people! Only small thing is the lack of AC but with the fans nights were confortable, even in August!
Great stay at a great place
The owners treated us to a welcome meal which we really appreciated. As others have commented this location was well described on the VRBO site.
We loved this property.
We stayed 3 nights in the middle of a two week tour of maritime Canada. Ole and Karen were charming hosts for dinner on our arrival night. The loft condo space was fun to live in, close to town activities and restaurants and very comfortable as home base for our discovery of PEI.
I have already shared pictures with friends. Wonderful.
Excellent location and apartment
We were very happy with the quality and location of this property. The owners met us on site the evening of our arrival with a lovely meal and provided an overview of everything we needed to know. The apartment is a very large space, although there are only two beds. One bedroom is downstairs in a nice room across
From full bath. The other bed is upstairs in a loft area with second bathroom. Our son slept on the sofa in the very large, open, lovely living room/kitchen area. It was a place full of character and fun to stay there. Also with a fantastic outdoor patio and rooftop terrace. The location was top notch, within easy walking distance of downtown and harbor areas. Would recommend and stay again!!
Although a small City, Charlottetown has special prominence as the birthplace of Canada and home town for the Anne of Green Gables show, a summer feature at the national Confederation Centre of the Arts. As a result there is a lot happening within walking distance: Numerous shows, festivals, live music and lots of good restaurants staffed by graduated of the local Culinary Institute. Most activities can be reached with an easy walk. Explore the picturesque country side and endless beaches in car or on bikes on the rails to trails covering the entire Island.
