HOME RUN is a large, kid and pet-friendly ski chalet 99 steps from the final ' Home Run' back to the village; truly, a pristine ski-in and ski-out environment. It stays pristine because vehicles cannot reach the homes above the village as we are snowed in for most of the winter. (A SUNSET magazine article described Bear Valley as the holder of the one month US snowfall record-37 feet!)

Therefore, alternative transportation such as a snowmobile ( taxi and rentals @ Bear Valley Snowmobile 209-753-2620 ) can be provided. You can walk, snowshoe and ski everywhere-we're just a mile from the lodge. Don't worry, this only adds to the adventure and kids love it.

This newly updated home is perfect for two families. The upstairs bedroom has a new queen bed and the loft has a new fold-out couch and futon. This floor is situated so that it enjoys spectacular morning color. The first floor bedroom has a new king bed and attached tile bath with radiant heat. The dining table seats ten. There is no television service at HOME RUN, but there is a SLING BOX, a ROKU home theater with NETFLIX, a piano, a fireplace, a nice view and more stars than you've ever seen. It is in one of NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC's Dark Spots (AUG '08).

Many of our guests prefer the warmer seasons-colorful SPRING wildflowers on our creek, the golden aspens of AUTUMN and the splendor of a perfect BV SUMMER during our annual Music Festival. We are just a 5 minute walk to the lake. After a full day of activities perhaps enjoy a local fine wine in the private all-season hot tub. It is on 1300 square feet of decking and provides the setting for a stunning alpenglow experience.

Those who love Bear Valley for its solitude also love the ease of the winter journey. There are no mountain passes to traverse hence no avalanche closures; just straight up uncrowded Hwy. 4 from Murphys through the foothill's wine country-- only 30 snow miles to the summit near Ebbetts Pass, 4,000-7,000 '. This wide US SCENIC BYWAY , HWY 4, is always open. This is the closest ski resort to the Bay Area and definitely the easiest travel.

And the summer presents an even more magnificent approach from the east, if you are so inclined.

Feel free to stop at Val du Vino winery in Murphys and receive our discount.

*** Please open the attached US BYWAY link if you have further interest in this extraordinary wilderness area @ www.scenic4.org ***

This is a tight, cozy ski house on a ridge above Bear Valley Village and as Lloyd Bridges once said in a TV piece..'Bear Valley is the hidden treasure of the Sierra.'

*** Early Winter-Yahoo! ***

Seasonal and week long discounts are available.

Even though there have been many upgrades, we have not raised prices in years, enjoy!

About Terry

Although we live in Monterey, Bear Valley is our much- beloved sanctuary.

Terry purchased this chalet in 1990

Why Terry chose Gold Country & High Sierra

My brother and I were skiing the central Sierra in the late 80's and never left. The idea of being at this altitude in a Wilderness area and a town of 125 people but with full amenities was extremely compelling.

Cozy family cabin in Bear Valley

  • 5 of 5

We arrived on the first storm of 2016 and felt snug in our house with cozy couches and a warm fire. Our intent for the weekend was to unwind so we cooked our meals in the spacious kitchen, took walks and totally relaxed. Looking forward to making this a yearly fall retreat. Clean, spacious and we could tell it is a house loved by the owners. We would highly recommend.

Perfect Getaway in October

  • 5 of 5

Thanks to Terry for working with us to get the weekend that we wanted. The cabin is among beautiful surroundings - we sat outside during the day and loved being able to see the tree tops while inside. There is a little lake to take a walk to during the day and a larger lake for a longer hike only 10 minutes away. Our kids also enjoyed having their own time in the Loft area. It is a charming, clean, cozy cottage. We loved it!

Cute little place in the woods

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our time at this house. It was well stocked and very comfortable. We loved having the woods right outside our door and the hiking all around. Terry was very responsive to any questions we had, and our dogs loved it. We very much enjoyed a nice bonfire at night under the stars. We'd definitely stay here again.

A fantastic time in a impeccable cabin

  • 5 of 5

This is our second summer time trip to Bear Valley, and our second visit to this beautiful cabin. It is perfectly situated about a mile up from the store / music festival tent. An easy walk, and a lovely one. The lake is about 5 minutes away and easily swimmable (cold, but my 5 and 8 year olds adored it each afternoon we were there). As to the cabin itself: the kitchen is spacious, the beds and couch comfortable, the deck perfectly situated for afternoon breezes and the views from the multitude of windows delightful. The internet is slower than you are probably used to, so if you need to do internet related work while there be prepared for long up/download times. That is literally the only less than perfect thing about the place, if you aren't doing video editing or MMORPG gaming you will never notice it.

Notes:
Besides being a complete ski area this is a High Sierra wilderness that offers hiking, fishing, camping, backpacking, wildlife, spelunking, climbing, canoeing, rafting etc. Alpine County is the least populated in CA-1212 people-2 per square mile- a wilderness county. No stoplights in the county, the largest town is 125 people. Peace and quiet, come up and get lost. Get snowed in.
