About Ron

I am a native 'Yooper' with roots in the Gladstone area. Although I moved away more than two decades ago I still visit several times per year. The cottage is a perfect place to unwind and take a break from my hectic work schedule which has me traveling all over the world through most of the year. I am the father of two young boys who love to spend time at the cottage as the location is perfect for kids. Gladstone is also a very friendly town where you will immediately feel welcome as you explore all that the area has to offer. In my spare time I am a musician and I love to collect guitars and antiques, you will see some evidence of this at the cottage too :)

Ron purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Ron chose Little Bay de Noc

My mother and grandparents are from Gladstone so I had the benefit of spending a lot of time here as a child. It's a great place to just hang out and enjoy the friendly local people and small town charm. The lifestyle here is very relaxed and the scenery in the area is truly beautiful. It is the perfect place for a 'Getaway'.

What makes this cottage unique

The location is great because Van Cleve Park and Little Bay de Noc (Lake Michigan) are just across the street. The park is beautiful and it offers everything from a public beach (where the water is actually quite warm due to the shallow bay) to a kids playland, to a new public fishing dock. Little Bay de Noc is known as one of the best Walleye fishing areas in the country and there are local charters available. In the winter you can enjoy the Gladstone Ski Hill which also offers tubing, and snowmobiles are allowed on city streets to allow easy access to the extensive trail system. Gladstone is small enough that you can walk to a local restaurant for a meal or visit the charming specialty shops downtown.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We very much enjoyed our stay at the cottage. We have a second home, and it's often that we are there and missing some simple item, a can opener, trash bags, etc. There was nothing we needed that wasn't provided at Little Bay! I appreciate how thoughtful that is, thank you! The internet was working fine. We would definitely stay there again; my local family also thought it was great, and took the info so they could mention it to anyone looking for accommodations. Thanks again for your wonderful hospitality!

Very comfortable and well appointed cottage. We come up 4-6 times a year for work and will be staying here or at eagle's nest down the street.

Lovely place to relax!

  • 4 of 5

This is a nice, quiet, and very clean rental. It is in a very pleasant location with a view of the lake. The breezes were very consistent and we did not need the air conditioning at all. Thanks Ron for a lovely stay.

Great house, great location. We loved our stay at Little Bay Gateway, thank you very much.

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at Little Bay Getaway and we loved it just as much as the first one. House is very comfortable and cozy and has everything you can possibly need for a great vacation. When we arrived it was very clean and totally prepared for us. Special thanks to Ron for meeting our request regarding allergy to house chemicals and fragrances, we appreciate that very much.

Location is great. We really enjoyed our walks in park. We also liked going to near by Escanaba to visit park there and also have a meal at Sweedish Pantry. Little Bay Getaway is great point for exploring attractions of Michigan Upper Peninsula such as Pictured Rocks National Lake Shore and lovely city of Marquette.

Another reason why we love coming to Gladstone for vacation is cool weather. We live in Baltimore, MD and vacation in Gladstone provides us with escape from hit and humidity there. We would also like to compliment farmers markets in Gladstone and Escanaba, fruits, vegetables, egs and fish are always fresh and taste fantastic.

We definitely consider coming back in the future

Yupper Adventure

  • 5 of 5

Little Bay Getaway was fantastic! I was up there from Minnesota with three college friends and having a base of operations right on the best beach on Lake Michigan but also close to Pictured Rocks and all the Lake Superior waterfalls, as well as only a few hours away from Mackinac Island was perfect.

The cottage was great. The beach across the street is extremely sandy and Lake Michigan is so clear and clean and surprisingly warm to do the position of the beach.

There are a lot of wineries and breweries and fantastic roadside shops in the area as well as Big Spring State Park (Kitchitikipi)—which was a lot of fun.

I would highly recommend Little Bay Getaway to anyone. Ron was great and got back to us right away and answered all out questions about the area. We used the grill everyday, and the place is extremely well cared for.

The house is everything the owner portrays it to be and more. Highly recommend it for small families. Everything you need is there except your food. Beautiful area and lots to do. Would definitely rent the house again.
