About the property

House, 6 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 16)

This large, beautiful, Hawaiian home is located in a prestigious east Honolulu neighborhood. It is a huge, tropically-landscaped lot with a heated, tiled, blue bottom swimming pool. The house is fully furnished as the owner lives there part of the year. All amenities are included. We provide all your soaps, shampoo, cream rinse, laundry soap and dish soaps. We are trying to save you money on baggage so you don't have to check your luggage.

We are in Hawaii Kai close to Hanauma Bay. We are about 20 minutes from Waikiki and about 30 minutes from HNL. The Koko Marina is a block and ½ away and has an 8 Plex Movie Theatre with Stadium Seating, Foodland Grocery Store, Starbucks, Subway, 24 Hour Fitness and a number of other restaurants and shops. Costco, Safeway, Longs and Ross are also close by.

The house easily accommodates two families with separate living areas. The house has 2 living rooms, one downstairs with a queen bed and one upstairs with a king bed. The master bedroom has a king bed and a large separate dressing area and bathroom. One bedroom downstairs has 2 queen beds, two others have one queen bed each and another has a twin day bed with a twin trundle. We also have a full size crib and a pack and play.

The swimming pool is heated by solar panels and is beautiful. Half the pool is quite shallow so it is the perfect pool for small children. The pool is fenced and attached to the house for

your private use.

We have 4 televisions and DVD players. There are games for the whole family, cribbage, dominos, Pictionary, Trivial Pursuit, and others.

We are a retired professional couple. We love having our large extended family visit us and know you will enjoy staying here too. I want you to feel like to you being pampered and treated to a wonderful stay at a friends home. I provide everything I can to make you comfortable and at home.

Melanie Fox purchased this house in 1999

Why Melanie Fox chose Hawaii Kai

We love this area for it's beauty and access to the ocean. It is so close to everything we need yet tropical and remote feeling. Hanauma Bay Beach Park is .4 miles from our door. It is the most popular visitor attraction on Oahu. It is always a fantastic day of snorkeling there. The bay in front of our house is perfect for Paddle Boarding and Kayaking. The Koko Marina Shopping Center is about 2 blocks away (walking distance) and has everything you could need. There is a Foodland Grocery Store, Starbucks, Jamba Juice, 24 Hour Fitness, Gas Station, Nail Salon, and Movie Theatre. There are are a 1/2 dozen Restaurants too.

What makes this house unique

You will love the sounds of morning birds and the smell of Plumera Blossoms when you wake up here. And you can grab a Mango from the tree for a Tropical Smoothie. Take a leisurely walk on the beautiful quiet streets in the neighborhood with the most incredible view of Diamond Head.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Melanie:

We had such a great time in Hawaii and thoroughly appreciated staying at your home, especially with all of the kind, friendly, generous, warm interactions with you and Mike. The welcome visit was really awesome (yes, even seniors use that term) and the daily interactions with you made us feel like ohana. You gave us privacy, helped when we needed it and were good neighbors. Your rental home was superbly furnished. I was thrilled to find a rolling pin so I could make my pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving dinner.

We did not leave anything in the clothes dryer and it was so kind of you to offer to return anything we left behind.

Aloha to you two,

Betty (back in cold Seattle)

The perfect place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We had the best time staying at Melanie's house! You really only need to bring your clothes, the house has everything else!! Plenty of space for everyone to relax and so much to do close by the house. We used the produced snorkel equipment to go to Hanauma Bay a few times. I can't say enough good things about this house, we're already planning another trip next year!!

Perfect Spot

  • 5 of 5

Our family was looking for a special place to celebrate a 50th anniversary. We found it in this house. It was located so conveniently to all the places we wanted to go, right around the bend from Hanauma Bay, only about 15 minutes from Honolulu and Waikiki, depending on traffic, and within walking distance to a beach where you could watch the water and the sunset. There were a couple of shopping areas within a quarter mile so getting groceries for a group of 9 ranging from age 10 to 73, and with divergent tastes was a breeze. For truly unique pizza try Sophie's.

As to the house itself, there was plenty of room for all of us, the house was very clean and neat when we arrived. The bedrooms are set up to accommodate couples, singles, and children easily. Although there is air conditioning in every room, we found the breezes blowing off the ocean were enough to keep the temperature very comfortable, day and night. There is a covered patio by the pool so we were able to sit and relax even when there was a short-lived rain shower. Plenty of dishes, utensils and pots and pans made cooking easy. There were plenty of beach towels and other beach supplies for all. There is even snorkeling equipment available for guest use in the pool or at Hanauma Bay. To top it all off, when we arrived at the house Melanie, the owner, greeted us with snacks and drinks to temper our hunger after a long flight.

The owner has a home at the rear of the lot but Melanie was never intrusive and it was handy to have her available for questions or advice about where to go and what to see. We bumped into her a few times coming and going and shared our plans to get her reaction/recommendations.

All in all, the family was very happy with the house, the location, and our time together in Paradise.

Thank you Melanie

Fully loaded house and great host

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at Melanie's place during August 2017. The house is fully loaded with everything you possible need. (pots, pans, plates, spices, laundry detergents etc.) . The house is very clean and Melanie was a great host. Very accessible. Quick (driving) access to all the beaches on the east coast. Also very close to restaurants and local groceries. Great location for those visiting Oahu for the first time, you can easily access all the urban sites (Waikiki, Pearl Harbor etc) and then very easily all the beaches and sites on the east coast.

The house has very ample sleeping space, we had a group of 14 and everyone slept comfortable. The house has 3 bathrooms so the bathrooms can get a bit crowded with a larger group but totally manageable. We did come across a few local insects inside the house but this is to be expected in Hawaii. Overall we would visit again and wanted to thank Melanie for being such a great host.

Great location, great size

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the house for 7 nights with 11 people in our group. It was in a great location, not in the really busy, congested areas but was really close to grocery stores, food places & inbetween the major things we wanted to see & do. We had 9 adults & 2 kids in our group, the pool was great & we enjoyed all the games that they furnished at the house that we could all play together. If we ever make it back to the island we would not hesitate to stay at this same house.

Excellent location and home

  • 5 of 5

We had 10 family members together for this vacation. We were celebrating my mother's return to Honolulu after 76 years. She was born there in 1937 and lived at Hickam Field from 1940 to Aug of 1941. The home and the location on the island were fabulous. We were close to all the places we visited and everyone had their own rooms and space. Each evening we would gather around the patio and the swimming pool to relax and visit after each day's adventures. It was just perfect! All the recommendations by Melanie for things to do on the island were great and we enjoyed many of them. We were also able to make contact with a sponsor to have a tour of Hickam Field and see the home where my mother lived. I would highly recommend this location to anyone. Thank you for the wonderful memories!

The property worked out perfectly for the 10 of us

  • 5 of 5

Melanie was so easy to work with. She was so friendly and the fact that she lives just behind the house was helpful. The house had plenty of space for the 10 of us and came with everything we needed for the week. 5 stars for sure!!

Here are some of the things we suggest for you to do on Oahu.

PEARL HARBOR – PLEASE CHECK THE WEBSITE TO MAKE RESERVATIONS ON LINE FOR YOUR TRIP. If you don’t get reserved times you can go there and get in the standby list and probably get on the boat out to the memorial. http://www.nps.gov/valr/index.htm Don’t book ticket from any outside service, only this official site.

HANAUMA BAY STATE UNDERWATER PARK (MUST DO) Fabulously beautiful beach with a calm inner reef and tame tropical fish. The outer reef has coral gardens, green sea turtles, and reef fish. The bluff above the bay has a great new visitor center which educates visitors about reef life. Closed Tuesdays.

KAILUA BEACH & PARK (MUST DO) One of the world's top-rated beaches. Sailboards and kayaks can be rented on the spot. Turquoise waters are protected from big waves by outer reef and shallow water. Trade winds prevail to make for perfect windsurfing as well as kite sailing. The beach is great for family fun.

KAHALA RESORT This is a beautiful Hotel with a DOLPHIN EXPERIENCE that is recommended for adults and children. The dolphins live in a lagoon on the property. The beach is small and kid friendly with Cabana’s for rent. You can dine on site or go for a FANTASTIC Sunset Cocktail. Valet Park with Validation. There are several restaurants on site including High Tea in the Afternoon and a Piano Lounge in the evening.

SANDY BEACH Beautiful beach closest to the house. SAFETY FIRST I do not recommend swimming here. It is only for LOCAL people. Many visitors are injured here.

WAIMANALO BAY Oahu's longest sandy beach. Snorkeling among tropical fish and colorful corals in a shallow, reef-protected bay.

WATER SPORTS Jet skiing, parasailing, waterskiing, wakeboarding, banana boats and bumper tubes, glass bottom & scuba dive boats are all available at Koko Marina which is just a block and ½ from the house. You can also Kayak and Stand-up Paddle Board from here also.

CHINA WALLS This is a cool place you can walk to from our house. It is at a beach park up the road on the ocean. Ask up about it when you are here. SAFETY FIRST……DON’T BE FOOLISH!

BISHOP MUSEUM The premier exhibitor and guardian over the natural and cultural history of Hawaii and the Pacific Islands. Artifacts of Hawaiian culture on display include royal clothing, weapons, and much more. There is also a Planetarium. A "Must See" for museum buffs. For information call: 847-3511.

SEA LIFE PARK Dolphin shows sea lions that like to ham it up for the audience, penguins, a huge reef tank full of fish, and learning programs. Various marine animal encounters available. Phone 259-7933 Dedicated to marine preservation and education.
