About Ginger Power
We live in Virginia Beach and work full time so enjoy a quick getaway to the shore
Ginger Power purchased this House in 2003
Why Ginger Power chose Bloxom
We fell in love with the beauty and nature of the area. It is a true Shore Escape! You will see many birds, deer and can gaze at the stars at night!
What makes this House unique
Shore Escape is in a small private community that overlooks Kegotank Bay, Assawoman & Metomptkin barrier islands & the Atlantic Ocean. You can see Wallops Island from the property, where they launch rockets, including supplies to the International Space Station. It is a great location to explore the shore and come back "home" to your peaceful getaway to relax & enjoy the beauty!

Great end to Summer and peaceful stay
We loved our stay at the house. It was my wife and two daughters (14 and 12). The house is in a peaceful, quiet area with beautiful views out to the Kegotank Bay. We felt at home with all of the amenities throughout the house. The kitchen had all the things we needed to cook most of our meals (while listening to music from the myriad CDs in the house collection). We enjoyed playing the board games in the evenings as we relaxed before bed. We enjoyed kayaking (not something all of us had done before) and loved seeing the wildlife along the waterways. It was great to have boogie boards available as well. They were a blast at Assateague Beach. All in all, this was a great VRBO find and we're so glad we stayed.
Wonderful get away
My 8 year old nephew was in this house for 10 minutes and said he wished he could live there. I could imagine it, too. The location is quiet, rural, on top of "nature." The house is well laid out and designed, and the best thing about it is that is on the marsh (birds, bunnies and deer on the lawn) and the kayaking is excellent. All 5 of us who stayed at the house for 3 days said we would happily return.
A couple clarifications: The picture of the property from the sky makes it look like the house is alone in a field. In fact, the land has been developed and the house it sits amid a small row of other vacation houses. The privacy is still good. Also, my niece and nephew wanted to ride bikes and both had flat tires, one with a gash. If bikes are important to you check they are fixed.
The kitchen is well stocked. The rotating wine selection was a real treat. One of the wines we had was great. We were left with a nice gift box of gourmet snacks, too.
All in all a very comfortable house and a great getaway.
Importantly, Ginger, the host, is great to deal with both before, during and after your trip.
Thanks for the nice review Patrick and the kind words about "the host".
So happy that you had a good nature vacation and plan to return. I appreciated the heads up on the bikes and could have fixed it during your stay had I had known sooner. We keep a good pump and extra tubes there just in case. We will strive to earn that extra star next time. Looking forward to hearing from you again soon! Ginger
We chose shore escape looking for a quiet spot to relax when we weren't out at the beach or Chincoteague. We have a family of 4 with kids 6 and 9. The house is absolutely great. Comes as advertised and even better than pictures. Well furnished, comfy beds, great AC, safe neighborhood, and tons to do! Kids loved all the games in basement and huge yard where they launched a rocket from the Wallops gift shop. The owners have thought of most everything...boogie boards, beach chairs and beach cooler worked out perfectly for us. Kayaking just down road was fun too. We'll be back!!
Thanks so much for the excellent review, Joseph. Sounds like you took advantage of many great opportunities to enjoy the beauty of the area and NASA right there! great that you plan to return. You are welcome anytime! Ginger
Perfection from the back routes, to the scenery, to the wine, to the kayaks, to the private island trip, etc.....read the travelers' notes in the diary on the kitchen counter....
My 5 year old fit perfectly with my husband in the 2 seater kayak and the other 2 kids each had their own kayak. Trip to Onancock was only 15 minutes and 25 minutes to Chincoteague.
Wonderful memories made in our short trip!!!! The kids and I enjoyed shell picking on the nearby Island. My husband and I enjoyed relaxing with a bottle of wine and some music in the evening. The beds were super comfy! I can't say enough wonderful things about Ginger's home! We will return!
Kelly, I am so happy that your family enjoyed Shore Escape!. Kayaking to the barrier islands is a hidden treasure! The location halfway between Chincoteague & Onancock is ideal to explore the shore. We appreciated your helpful suggestions as well & took care of everything to make your next stay even more enjoyable! Looking forward to hearing from you soon for another visit! Ginger
A break from "normal"
The house was beautiful and well maintained. It was nice to be close enough to things to do and far enough away to provide much needed downtime and recharging for our small children. Lots of wildlife to watch! The kayaks were great to take out for the day on an adventure. The owner was wonderful to work with. Overall a great experience and I'd recommend it for a get away from normal. Next time I may leave the kids at home and bring a few grown up friends instead!
Thanks so much for the nice review! So happy that you had fun and were adventurous enough to explore the barrier islands! The nature on the shore is a treasure! You were perfect guests to enjoy what Shore Escape has to offer! Please do come back with your grown up friends! : )
Peace and Quiet
Peace and Quiet if thats what you need this is the place for you.No need to bring anything but your clothes this home has everything, fully stocked kitchen, movies an awesome music collection, towels ,linens, kayaks a charcoal grill everything.Need a car to fully enjoy the area, short 25 minute ride to Chincoteague National Wild Life Refuge where there is a nice beach but get there early because it fills up very fast. The town of Chincoteague is quaint with restaurants and many gift shops. Also in the town of Ononcock there is a ferry that will take you to the small fishing village of Tangier Island for a small fee.Great picture opportunities on that trip. You will probably see more wildlife at the cottage than at the wild life refuge. We saw on a daily basis deer with their fawns a Bald Eagle numerous Geese and Turtles, one actually dug a whole and layed its eggs at the side of the house that was pretty cool.At nigft we would sit on the porch open the windows and be serenaded by the marsh wildlife. All in all its a great place for quiet and relaxation.Air conditioned clean and tastefully decorated.
Thanks so much, R&L, for the wonderful review. It is worth 5 stars to us! We do take pride in offering a very clean Shore Escape with local art, nice furnishings & loads of entertainment along with all the wonderful nature you described so well! I would like to add that there are also beautiful pristine beaches on the barrier islands in front of the cottage that you can kayak to for a fun & peaceful nature adventure. In addition to the ferry in Onancock, our favorite little town on the shore, there are a good selection of restaurants, galleries and shops away from the tourist scene with a local flair. We appreciate your 2 week visit and hope that you come back to enjoy the "Peace and Quiet" very soon! Ginger
