Ski du Soleil? Well, Les Gets to the French Alps pronto!
Nuzzling up to the Morzine ski region, Les Gets is part of the Portes du Soleil and the largest ski area in Europe. A vast and popular skiing resort, it really comes into its own during the winter months. You can almost ski right from your Les Gets vacation rental down some of the finest pistes in the beautiful French Alps. Enjoy apres ski in the 800-year old village, which is crammed pretty, snow-draped chalets, lively bars, and cozy French bistros serving bubbling fondue and raclette. Snow sports aside, it's also good for ice diving (yikes!), yoga, and spas.
Ice, ice baby—channel your inner Tonya in Les Gets
Don't fancy skiing? Then why not channel your inner Tonya Harding and take the ice at the Les Gets Outdoor Ice Rink. Or book in a massage or sauna at the Sereni-Cimes Spa at the Hotel Marmotte and Hotel La Tapiaz complex. And in the summer, the resort is thronging with hikers and bikers. Visit the Bike Park Les Gets, one of the most popular mountain bike parks in Europe. Host of the 2004 World Championships, it offers a wide variety of rugged trails, plus a jump zone and an area for little bikers. It's open from June until September.
Want life on the piste? Head for winter in Les Gets
Although the French Alps is a year-round destination, the winter season is the most popular. From November to April, it becomes a magnet to the ski and snowboard crowd. Whether you like a gentle sweep down the nursery slopes or to bomb it down a black run, the 400 miles of slopes cater for all levels. But there's plenty to do if skiing is not your thing. The village offers tobogganing, a variety of spas in the mountain resorts, and of course, plenty of apres-ski action in the dozens of bars and restaurants.
Chill out, winter's coming in Les Gets
The French Alps is renowned for its winter sports scene and it snows pretty consistently between November and April. The resort's high altitude means ski conditions are pretty fantastic, but wrap up warm as it does get chilly. Despite the chill factor, the days are often bright and sunny with endless blue skies. In the summer, temperatures can reach 70 degrees and higher, and rainfall is rare. It's the shoulder seasons of spring and fall which see the most wet stuff, so pack an umbrella.
Ain't no mountain high enough—Les Gets hiking
Forming part of the Portes du Soleil, the largest ski area in Europe, Les Gets is 37 miles from Geneva Airport. In the summer Les Gets becomes a haven for hikers. There are nearly 5000 miles of signed pathways to enjoy through the Alps, although maybe not all in one vacation! The Les Cretes to Mont Chery is a popular trail which starts from Les Gets. From the Mont-Chery gondola, the hike takes around 3-4 hours and finishes in the charming Alpine hamlet of Mont-Caly. Keep your eyes peeled for the Alps' resident chamois, mountain goat, and golden eagle.
