About the property

3 Bedroom, 2.5 Bath Cabin + Studio apt., (Sleeps 8)

'Check out our Video - scroll to the right of the last picture above.'

Our custom built, 1600 sf cabin, which we affectionately refer to as 'The Fishing Shack', was completed in the fall of 2008. An additional 350 sf studio apartment was completed in 2013. The property is located on the Madison River, known for its majestic beauty and world class fly fishing. The cabin is a gorgeous, 40 minute drive to the entrance of Yellowstone National Park and about an hour to the winter hot spot, Big Sky Ski Resort. With its fabulous location, reclaimed barnwood floors, custom kitchen, 3 flat screen TVs, a Jotul wood-burning stove, and floor to ceiling windows, it is a magical vacation spot certain to deliver year round fun.

The master suite has a queen bed with pillow top mattress, flat screen TV, French doors opening to a 5 person Bullfrog Jacuzzi Tub overlooking the river, and a custom built pebble shower with dual shower heads (including a rain head). There are two bedrooms upstairs, each with log bunk beds (twin on top & queen below). Open the windows and let the smell of the mountains and the sound of the river lull you to sleep. The open loft has a cozy seating area, a third flat screen TV with DVD player, and Game Cube system for the kids (and the kids at heart). Directly on the river, you will find a large fire pit perfect for staying warm and making s'mores while watching the fishermen in your family catch that big brown just feet away.

Our cabin is located 30 minutes from Ennis and 35 minutes from the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park. It is situated in a friendly residential community with about six other homes and delightful neighbors. It is across the river from a Forest Service campground and a short walk to the world famous 'Grizzly Bar & Grill' (you must sample their delightful wine selection).

Our location is perfect for year round Montana fun and adventure. In the winter, spend your days skiing the famed slopes of Big Sky Ski Resort, snowmobiling in West Yellowstone, cross country skiing on miles of pristine trails, watching the bald eagles soar above the river while soaking in the jacuzzi, or simply enjoying the beauty of the Madison while curled up with a good book by the wood burning stove. Fill the long summer days with activities such as fishing from the property, floating the Madison, exploring Yellowstone National Park, hiking beautiful mountain trails, horseback riding, listening to live music while sipping local wines and soaking in the Norris Hot Springs, experiencing an authentic Montana rodeo or riding the antique railway in historic Virginia City.

We hope you enjoy our cabin as much as we do, and we look forward to sharing the beauty of Montana with you.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hello Dave, Here are my comments added to your listing… All true “We have always wanted to Visit Montana, and this cabin was the icing on the cake! The pictures on this site do not do it justice! It is not only a beautiful place to stay but a great place to relax. We enjoyed the river, lots of fishing from the property and rafting down the river. The drive to Yellowstone was only 35 minutes and well worth it! The owners were wonderful to deal with; my deposit was returned very promptly. I am definitely staying there again. We have been lucky enough to travel all over the world and this was one of the BEST vacations we have taken!!” Will talk to you In March to book again next summer J Thanks,Robbin

Heaven

  • 5 of 5

The cabin itself is far more sophisticated than one thinks of when you hear "cabin". The home was obviously built with love of detail and the touches that reflect that, at times, the family enjoys it as much as the guests, makes it that much more special to stay there. Heaven on earth, even with unexpected snow. It was that much more magical.

Awesome!!!

  • 5 of 5

The Fishing Shack is wonderful! I am very particular about where I stay with my family, and this place met, or exceeded every single one of my expectations. It is so beautiful. The barn wood floors, the kitchen, the bedrooms are all great. I have stayed in a lot of VRBO's and Heather's place feels like a real home. I was shocked at how well-stocked the kitchen was. There are views out of every single room. This house was designed by someone who knew what they were doing.

The location cannot be beat. We enjoyed sitting in the hot tub, looking at the river and watching the sunset over the mountains. We felt that we had plenty of privacy. This house is not too far from Yellowstone. Frankly, we were happy to be away from all the tourist nonsense. At this house, we felt like we got a real Montana experience. If you want to tour Yellowstone, or fly fish or just enjoy the beauty of Montana, I would not stay anywhere else. I wish we were still there now.

The Fishing Shack is a wonderful home on the Madison River. It has everything you need to have a great time visiting Yellowstone National Park or experiencing the Madison River Valley in Montana. We had a great experience fly fishing in the Madison. This home is perfect for familys or a group of friends. We will definitely return.

Wonderful place!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful home right on the Madison river, and when I say right on I mean right on it. The place is beautiful but comfy and the scenery outside is fantastic. We saw numerous bald eagles fishing the river as well as falcon and osprey. The set up is perfect for three couples with one in the master suite, one upstairs so as to have a private bath and one in the adjoining fully equipped apartment. 45 minutes to Yellowstone and 30 seconds to fly fishing from the back yard. If we are ever back this way will definitely book again.

We loved our stay at the fishing shack. We found everything we could need. The beds were comfortable, the house is stunning, and the sound of the river lulled us to sleep. Highly recommend! Gorgeous fishing.

It was a wonderful cabin along the Madison river.

  • 4 of 5

We loved the great views of the Madison River from the large windows of the living room overlooking the river. We could also see the activities of campers at the camp ground across the river. We were super happy to have spent a week at the cabin. Based on the pictures from the website, we thought it would be isolated and far away from other homes. The cabin has a well equipted kitchen, except there is not a tea kettle. A popcorn maker would be super cool to have, especially when watching a movie. It helps to cool the rooms off by leaving the windows open at night and the fans provided by the owners. The home has 100 years old wood floors. It is helpful to have flip flops to prevent splinters because socks are not enough. We arrived at Yellowstone airport. Our advice is to drive to Western Yellowstone which is 8 miles before going to the cabin. We made the mistake of going to Ennis to the supermarket which has less toutists and more items on the first day. So it made for a 78 mile drive from the airport. Then 25 miles plus from Ennis to the cabin. There are no places to eat from the cabin to the airport. By the cabin there is only the Grizzly Bear. So if you want a place to eat, you have to drive to Western Yellowstone or to Ennis. If you do not mind driving 40 miles each way to go the western entrance of Yellowstone National Park, this is a good home to stay.
