This charming holiday home lies on the banks of the Shields River, surrounded by the Absaroka-Beartooth, Bridger and Crazy Mountain ranges. Ideally located for exploring the Livingston area and enjoying many activities all year round. The Shields River Hideaway makes a great winter or summer getaway.

The home is perfectly set up for families, couples and small groups. Decorated in rustic, western style, with tasteful furniture, artwork and well-appointed amenities throughout, Shields River Hideaway is a home away from home.

The master bedroom has a queen bed and en suite bathroom; the second bedroom has a queen bed; the third bedroom has two singles. Each bedroom has huge built-in closets and a tall dresser, each bathroom has a full-size bath and shower.

The gas fireplace warms the living room and creates cozy ambiance during winter. Comfy leather couches in the living room are a great place to enjoy a good book or movie from our small library.

The outdoor deck is furnished with a gas BBQ and plenty of comfortable seating options – cushioned lounge chairs and table/chairs for outdoor dining. The deck is the perfect place for morning coffee to the sound of the birds, afternoon snoozing in the sun or evening cocktails to the warm glow of the sun setting behind the mountains.

Situated on 20 private acres in the Shields Valley, including private river frontage on the Shields River, the property features delightful garden walking trails and many charming nooks to relax, explore and enjoy. Animal and birdlife are abundant - including deer, black bears, moose, coyotes, wild turkey, Sandhill cranes and bald-headed eagles.

In Summer enjoy fishing from your own private access to the Shields River, steps from your backdoor. The property is less than 2 miles from the nearest public access to the Yellowstone River and close to many creeks for additional fishing access. There are endless opportunities to enjoy our beautiful rivers - swimming, floating, tubing and white water rafting - all just a short walk from your door. Horseback riding is available on ranches nearby.

Winter fun includes cross-country skiing, sledding and snowshoeing right from your doorstep. Downhill skiing and snowmobiling are within reasonable driving distance at Bridger Bowl and Big Sky Resort.

About Victoria Schilling

We are a young family of four living in paradise..

I am a transplant to Montana from Sydney, Australia via London and New York. Despite having grown up in a large coastal city in Australia, and worked most of my career in the corporate world in big cities, life in the country was the dream - a place to breathe fresh air, take things a little more slowly, appreciate nature, enjoy quality of life and raise a family. My husband is a local - he grew up here, was educated here, runs a business here and his family all still live here.

It was an easy decision for us to start our family life here together and create a home for our two wonderful children. We love and appreciate where we live and hope to be able to share it with you someday.

Why Victoria Schilling chose Yellowstone Country

We knew this was the place for our family when we found it - properties like this in the Shields Valley of this size, with private river frontage and still close to Livingston, are hard to come by.

The Shields Valley is a magical place. Picturesque, undeveloped, with the river, the mountains, the wildlife and birdlife, the warm glow of the rising sun on the Crazy Mountains, clear twinkling night skies - it is hard not to feel privileged to live somewhere so special.

Being right on the Shields River we enjoy all it has to offer including swimming, tubing and fishing in summer, and in winter we are able to ice-skate on our own frozen pond and cross-country ski through the wonderful walking trails through our woods.

Also for us the convenience of living in the country, just 10 minutes from the historic town of Livingston, is the perfect balance.

What makes this house unique

The guest house is the original ranch house on the property, all on one level it is ideally laid out with the master bedroom and en-suite at one end of the house, the second bathroom and two bedrooms along a hallway at the other end, and the kitchen and open dining area and living room in the middle. It is set up as we would like it set up for ourselves, our family and friends, so there are a lot more of the little extras and conveniences that make it even more like a home away from home.

Right on the Shields River, fishing access doesn't get much better. River access also provides ample swimming and tubing opportunities. With stunning views of the Crazy Mountains and surrounded by a huge expanse of lawn, it is ideal for outdoor relaxing and games. There are private woods, walking trails and a riverside path to stretch your legs and explore.

The property has all the benefits of a country hideaway, yet is barely 10 minutes' drive to the historic town of Livingston with all its amenities, services, outfitters, shopping, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, museums and galleries; 40 minutes to the larger town of Bozeman and Bozeman Yellowstone International airport (BZN); barely an hour's drive to Yellowstone National Park; and less than an hour to the nearest ski field.

Well equipped, comfortable and great location.

  • 5 of 5

Shields River Hideaway was the perfect stay for our fly fishing adventure in the Livingston/Bozeman area. The owners thought of every possible need. We were surrounded by wildlife and beautiful scenery in every direction. A welcome basket filled with homemade treats, wine and local goodies was an added bonus! We would recommend this property to anyone seeking a peaceful get-away and a "home base" for exploring all that the area has to offer.

Early April 2016

  • 5 of 5

Spring Creek fishing with 3 friends had us at the Shields River Hideaway. The house is attractive, comfortable, and the most thoroughly outfitted place I have ever stayed. Victoria is a very pleasant host. Most ideal for two couples or a family. Secluded, 10 minutes to Livingston, beautiful rangeland and snow capped mountains all around. Expect to be back again next year, and the 5 stars are fully deserved.

Fall in SW Montana

  • 5 of 5

Shields River Hideaway was a great base of operations from which to see SW Montana and Yellowstone Park. Secluded and quiet yet close to amenities in Livingston and a 30 minute drive from all that Bozeman has to offer. The house was perfect for two couples with bedrooms at either end of house: privacy and all the comforts of home. Victoria, our host, was very accommodating and attentive to our needs. A great experience!

Montana Boyhood

  • 5 of 5

Shields River Hideaway was ideal; every aspect of it was just delightful. The setting, the river access, the spacious, comfortable home, the incredibly well-equipped kitchen - all contributed to a wonderful vacation. The host was very gracious and helpful, and has obviously put great thought and care into this rental experience. Livingston was wonderfully convenient - and the boyhood home of my fiance'. We would have LOVED to have stayed longer, and would definitely recommend it to family and friends.

Shields River Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

Our family group of four had an absolutely marvelous time at this home near the Shields River. From the moment we arrived until our departure we could not have asked or expected to have a more relaxing stay or better weather than we had. This home is exceptionally clean, equipped with everything you could possibly need and the host is very helpful and friendly. We enjoyed shopping/visiting the nearby town of Livingston, local restaurants and the backcountry trips through the surrounding area. Our daughter and her husband also enjoyed Yellowstone, Bozeman, Butte and other nearby locations. We would highly recommend this location if anyone is considering this area for a relaxing vacation. Have rented vacation homes in various states and must say this is one of the very best ever!

Home away from Home on Shields River Montana

  • 5 of 5

Our Family of five had a terrific time in this lovely home just off the river. Upon our arrival we were greeted with a beautiful gift basket. The home is very well equipped with all that you might possibly need whether taking a picnic to Yellowstone or preparing a feast for your family. The home is just out of the cute town of Livingston and makes a great place to relax or to easily access Yellowstone National Park. Plenty of opportunities for horseback riding, hiking and other pass times within easy commute of this cabin. The owners are very hospitable and friendly and make sure that you have all of your needs and questions taken care of. The home is very clean and organized and well maintained. I would certainly recommend this cabin for anyone considering the area for a vacation.
