About Terri Haynie

My husband and I have been going to the Outer banks for many years. We tried the northern beaches but found them to be crowded and too much traffic. We wanted to have an affordable vacation but found that most of the homes were too big. Once we found Hatteras, and the cabanas that was it. We purchased our first cabana in 2001 'Haynies Hideaway', and have enjoyed many years of just hanging out on the island, fishing, beach combing, and relaxing. In 2012 we purchased 'Sea La Vie' because we found our other cabana was booked so much we didn't get a chance to come down and enjoy it. Our daughter was 6 years old when we purchased our first cabana and still LOVES coming down and enjoying close family time. (She's 21 now)We love the beach, and Hatteras has the most amazing sunsets!!!We want our guests to enjoy our little place and take home awesome memories of the little cabana on the beach. Our plan is to one day move to Hatteras and become 'islanders'. Gotta have a plan :)

Life is better on the island!!!

Terri Haynie purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Terri Haynie chose Hatteras

The meaning of 'Sea La Vie'

'La Vie' meaning 'Life' the name was inspired from our daughters love of the french language.

Romantic, and spiritual.

The HISTORY of 'Sea La Vie'

In 2003 Hurricane Isabel pounded our cabana community and after 3 long days of pounding seas, 29 cabanas where wiped completely out. Some where found by the water tower, several scattered around the town, some just washed out to sea. Out of the 40 cabanas 11 stood up to Isabel's pounding seas. 'Sea La Vie' was the last cabana standing in the outside row. It sat vacant, unkept and in desperate need of new owners for 10 years. After alot of negotiation we purchased and closed October 2012. For the next 5 months we completely replaced EVERYTHING from the outside in. 'Sea La Vie' is now ready for new guests, and new memories. We have tried to put everything possible that we love into 'Sea La Vie' and take pride in keeping our place clean and well equipped.

What makes this cabin unique

Our little slice of heaven....that's what we say about our cabana everytime we go. Whether it's sitting out front on our beach (our backyard)or just hanging out on the decks, it's fabulous! My husband loves to get up early, and I love to sleep in. He grabs a coffee and his fishing rod and goes fishing. Our place is so close to the Hatteras Lighthouse, fishing piers, Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum , and the Ocracoke ferry too. The village has many locally owned art galleries and restaurants. We love supporting the locals!

If you are looking for beautiful beaches, that are not crowded, world class off shore fishing, no outlet have found it! Take a day trip to Ocracoke Island, and check out the horses, and the lighthouse. So much to do, if you love nature at it's finest.

Cozy and very comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

The cabana is awesome and is equipped with everything you need! Kitchen is full sized and stocked with pots, pans, dishes, etc. It is decorated very nicely and is charming!

With the beach within several hundred feet, it is perfect! Highly recommend!

We spent Thanksgiving here and truly enjoyed the laid back atmosphere of a normally chaotic holiday. Weather was perfect for late November! Watching the dolphins swim by was bonus.

Very cute little place

  • 4 of 5

Place was cute and had all amenities mentioned in description. We had a few minor issues the first night and it was too late when we arrived to call maintenance. We called in the morning and they came the same day to take care of the issues. Better instructions for changing from air conditioning to heat (this was November) would have been helpful., but I was very glad I brought a couple of blankets until we managed to get the heat going. Beach access was great and is perfect for those who want to fish as there is even a cleaning table with water near the access ramp. There is also an overhead faucet there to wash sand off. Overall, we really liked the place, but think we’d go a bit earlier as very many places were closed for winter already. Early October would be better if going in fall.

Everything You Need

  • 5 of 5

My oldest son and I went down to the OBX for a fishing weekend. The fishing was terrible (it was way too warm for November), but the cabana was great. It's cozy, comfortable, and a literal stone's throw away from the beach. My son slept on the pull out couch and I slept on the bed, which is one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept on.

Beautiful little beach cottage perfect for a getaway

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I really enjoyed this little cottage and were pleasantly surprised at how much functionality was in such a tiny place. The views from the roof top deck are great, with only a few other cottages between you and the ocean. Even though Hatteras is a small village you could get to most things with a short drive (we both strongly suggest taking the ferry over to Ocracoke for a day, and make sure to ride the ferry during sunset because the views are amazing). Our only real complaint is regarding the water pressure in the shower, which made it difficult to wash hair well. The bed could be be a little more comfortable as well, but that’s something easily fixed with a mattress pad that you could bring with you(I suggest it).

Overall we loved this place and will definitely keep it in mind the next time we visit OBX.

Owner's Response: We are so happy you e joyed your stay at our little slice a paradise. Sorry about the water pressure. I wish you would have reached out to me to let me know ,I could have had public water works check into it..It must have been a isolated situation because I have contacted my guests that are there now and they say it's great pressure. The mattress is a high quality (serta pillow top) 2 year old mattress and we do provide a high quality mattress pad. I'm not sure what more we could do about the mattress. Hatteras is an amazing village perfect for a couple wanting peace and quite serenity. Please come again. Thankyou. Terri

Cozy cabana within 20 steps to the beach.

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at Sea la Vie the first week in October. The weather was great (72-76) the whole week. This cabana was great; has everything you need. Very cozy, great decks and within 20 steps to the beach. Would come back in a heartbeat. Loved it!
