About this property

Pioneer's Cabin on a Peaceful Farm

Stay in an 1860s original log cabin, on our family farmstead. Primitive - but with full amenities (like electricity, running water, microwave, frig). Perfect for 2 or 4 close friends. Queen bed and single trundle bed up in the loft, which leads out to a balcony. New air conditioner in sleeping loft for those too hot nights.
Sitting area with kitchenette, sofa/foldaway. Front and back porches to relax on while listening to the birds, telescope for night sky viewing. Bathroom truly unique (see the pictures). We offer serenity and an occasional veggie from the garden. Raspberries and grapes, cows just over the fence, bonfire pit. Near 3 bike trails. No pets. No internet but smart phones work.

Cyclists enjoyed the cabin
Our host showed genuine concern about our wellbeing. As we were biking to her place, she offered to pick us up if we needed to be “rescued “. The space heater was already operating when we arrived so it was comfortable within the cabin. There was homemade cookies waiting on the counter, which was a nice touch. My only suggestion to the host is to make clear that the bathroom is attached to the same cabin, but to get to it, you have to go outside and take about 6 steps to an adjacent door. The steps are covered by the roof of the deck. None of this was a problem for us. Just be aware of it.

Unique and Cozy Cabin
My sister and I had a great time at this wonderful little cabin. It is quaintly adorned and furnished. We played cards, explored nature, and had a nice visit with Mary’s family. We highly recommend it!

Quiet Cabin
Quiet and quaint come to mind. Mary's 1860's cabin is exactly as the description and her photos indicate. The Milky Way was gorgeous all 3 nights of our stay. We were fortunate also to be there when the red raspberries were coming on strong and Mary invited us to take all we could eat! Tomatoes also from her veggie garden. The cows showed interest in us when we had the opportunity to sit on the front porch, but we didn't hear from them much in the nighttime hours. We'd rent again.

Charming cabin! Lovely setting!
We totally enjoyed the charm and care that Mary has brought into this old cabin. It has all the comforts one needs to relax and enjoy the bucolic setting. It wasn’t overdone but had neat decor in places you don’t expect. The bath is very short walk outside but that adds to the charm. And the shower is awesome and showing all the accouterments one needs in a bath. We were sad we had only one night available as it is worth a multi-night stay to unplug and relax on the cool back porch with a telescope!

4th generation on this farm. Good Norskie heritage, no longer milking (thank heavens). I just keep track of the heifers that stay here in the summer.

Why they chose this property

Near 3 Rails-To-Trails paths (Elroy-Sparta, 400, Omaha Trail). Quiet farm stay
