The Cottage on Little Lucy Creek is the Lowcountry at its most spectacular. Treat yourself to an affordable luxury vacation. Relax, unwind and enjoy the serene beauty the Lowcountry has to offer.
Our cottage sits on Little Lucy Creek, nestled among the live oaks and long leaf pines on Lady's Island. This Lowcountry hideaway has a breathtaking view of the tidal salt marshes of Little Lucy Creek where you can watch the egrets and herons wade in the marsh grass and the osprey, eagles and hawks soar overhead and you can hear the pileated woodpeckers pecking and watch them flit from tree to tree. If you watch closely you can see the tiny island deer and the raccoons when they visit the surrounding woods. From the screened porch you can see the dolphins surface as they cruise down Little Lucy Creek and if you look closely you can see the otters playing along the banks.
This cottage is also our second home and is thus appointed with all the amenities you need to make your vacation stay a delight. Most of the furnishings are genuine period antiques, many of them southern in origin and from the early 1800's. The living room has 22-foot vaulted ceilings, southern yellow pine floors, gas fireplace with a life-sized portrait of General Duff Green (our adopted southern kin) over the mantle, 46' flat screen TV with surround sound, sound system with speakers throughout the cottage, wi-fi and cable hook-up computer internet access. There are 3 sets of French doors, from the living room and both bedrooms, which overlook the salt marshes and provide access to the screened porch. The breezes from across the creek and salt marsh are very refreshing. All rooms, including the porch, have ceiling paddle fans or there is central air if you prefer.
The fully equipped kitchen has granite countertops with breakfast bar, gas range, full-size refrigerator with icemaker, microwave, wine cooler and is completely furnished with cookware, toaster, blender, mixer, coffeemaker and bean grinder, etc.
The master bedroom has a king-size pillow-top bed, TV, large closet, master bath with large vanity and a ceramic tile walk-in shower stall with rain shower head. The guest bedroom also has a pillow-top king bed, TV, large closet and a private full bath with tub and shower. From both bedrooms you can wake up and watch the sunrise across the salt marsh while still relaxing in bed.
Also available is a carriage house efficiency apartment over the detached garage which can be rented for a nominal additional fee. This apartment is one large room with a queen-size bed, leather sofa with queen pull-out bed, efficiency kitchenette, walk-in closet and full bath with shower stall. It is fully heated and air conditioned and also furnished with many antiques. The carriage house is only rented along with the cottage and cannot be rented separately.
There is a huge screened porch (48 x 16 ft) that overlooks the salt marshes, creek and the woods. The tides going in and out and the light at different times of the day provide an ever-changing view. The winds over the water provide a cooling breeze. The porch allows you to enjoy being outside any time of the day or night without worrying about the no-see-ums or mosquitoes. The screen porch has a wicker breakfast table outside the master bedroom French doors where you can enjoy your morning coffee. There are 2 sofas, 6 rockers and chairs, dining table that seats 8, and a beverage refrigerator. Even if the weather is a bit cool or stormy you can enjoy the screened porch when you lower the canvas panels with isinglass windows. There is also a gas heater which can be used to take the chill off the porch if necessary in the morning or evening.
Imagine stepping out onto the back deck and soaking in the 4 person hot tub while sipping wine and gazing at the stars overhead. There is a patio area with a gas grill where you can grill your fresh seafood and veggies from the outdoor market. There is a large open deck area and a picket fence surrounds the beautifully landscaped yard. There is a parking area for your boat trailer or extra vehicle. For your trips to the nearby beach, we have sand chairs, beach towels, coolers, and picnic baskets available for your use.
The cottage is only 4 miles from all major amenities and only 5 miles from historic downtown Beaufort where you can have lunch outside by the riverfront park, take a carriage ride, shop, sit by the water and watch the boats and even see a dolphin or two pass by. Savannah, Charleston or Hilton Head are all within +- an hour and a half drive for easy day trips; Visit Fort Sumter and other Civil War historical sites, shop on King Street or in the local open marketplace, take plantation tours, go antiquing, take a riverboat or sailing schooner tour, sit on the park bench where Forrest Gump sampled his box of chocolates, and dine at one of the many wonderful restaurants in the Lowcountry.
If you love to spend time at the beach you will love Hunting Island State Park. There are 3 miles of pristine secluded ocean beach which are only 15 minutes away. These beaches are totally undeveloped with the beaches left natural and NO houses, condos, apartments, restaurants, commercial development or development of any kind. Fish off of the dock at the nature center. You can fish or crab off of the marsh boardwalks out over the marsh. Be sure to climb the lighthouse and experience the spectacular ocean view. Watch the shrimp boats coming in with the catch of the day when you stop at the local seafood market for fresh seafood to grill for dinner. Also on your way home are roadside farm stands with fresh-picked fruits and vegetables. If you have a boat or kayaks there is a public launch just 2 miles away. There is a golf course less than 1 mile away.
To make your visit most pleasurable, our property manager will be here to welcome you upon your arrival and will make sure you get settled in and have everything you need to be comfortable. She is a Licensed Massage Therapist, NCBTMB. To make your stay even more memorable, she also offers, at an additional charge, in-house massages starting at $60 an hour.
Pets will be considered on an individual basis and will require an additional cleaning fee and deposit. The yard is fully fenced and there is a doggy door from the screened porch to the deck area. We expect pets to be on their best behavior so that they can enjoy your vacation with you!
We prefer to have only monthly rentals for January through May but occasionally we are able to make exceptions. If after the first of the year there are still vacancies, we will consider renting by the week during those months.

'1 Jan 2012 - 31 Jan 2012 We spent the month of January in Beaufort after spending 60 years of Januaries up north. Wow! what a place to spoil yourself in. We will definitely be back and hope all winters are as mild as the one we had this year. Thanks for everything, Mike & Elise (Moline, IL)'

This photo is from a trip to Hunting Island in late October. My husband Jim is holding Murphy Martin -- our little special needs miniature dachshund. We tried to get a photo of both of us with our 3 dogs but that didn't go so well. Maybe next time. Hunting Island is one of our favorites place and we have included several photos so you can see how special it is. We are from northern Indiana right on the Michigan state line so being able to go to the beach almost all year 'round is quite a treat. We visit the cottage several times a year and feel we are so very fortunate to have this experience.
We built our cottage as a getaway and a place for friends and family to visit. We vacation at the cottage now and plan to retire here at least part time when that time comes. The quiet and serenity allow us to totally unwind. We both enjoy photography so the views of the marshes and all the birds and wildlife are wonderful for us. We also very much enjoy any water activities so we especially feel at home here. When we built the cottage we had 5 (yes, 5!) dogs who all made the trip to South Carolina from Indiana with us. They all got so excited when the suitcases start to appear because they knew they were heading to the cottage. Not all of our guests bring their pets, but we do enjoy being able to provide a cottage that is pet friendly where others can bring their pets on vacation with them if they want.
Kathleen Sproatt purchased this cottage in 2004
We built our cottage on Little Lucy Creek because we absolutely fell in love with the Lowcountry area. We have family in the area which makes it even more special. This is our getaway special place. Sometimes we will sit on the screened porch and read or just enjoy the view of the salt marshes all day. My favorite day is coffee and newspapers on the porch in the morning, staying in my lounging pajamas and curling up on the porch ALL DAY with a good book, and ordering take-out dinner delivered in the evening; it is a special day where I can relax and unwind like no other experience I've ever had. Other times we enjoy taking trips to Savannah or Charleston for dinner, visiting friends in Hilton Head, antiquing or visiting the many historical locations. There are still many special places we haven't yet visited.
We have had many family gatherings at the cottage. With the huge screened porch we are able to entertain a large group with ease. Last year my husband's cousin and family stayed at the cottage while the whole family was involved in the annual Loggerhead turtle nesting and rescue program. The kids had a ball and said it was the best vacation ever! You can spend one day at the beach sunning and swimming and the next day be in Charleston for fine dining and shopping. There is no end to the historical places to visit, restaurants, the shrimp festival, the water festival, Oktoberfest, and on and on. Or you can do absolutely nothing all day and end your day with a glass of wine while gazing at the stars while relaxing in the hot tub.
Kathy and Jim thank you so much for sharing your lovely home with us. We came to Beaufort to look for our potential retirement home and were so relaxed by staying at the cottage. The cottage is a great mix of comfort and first class decorating. Great antiques, comfortable furniture and a very well stocked kitchen. We ate in most nights and it was great to not have to deal with the normal minimal kitchen supplies that most rentals offer. It was great to be able to have Publix and the fish markets close by. The porch became our favorite place to be even when it was warm out. Thanks for all those ceiling fans! Our dog Ruby felt right at home and loved taking walks through the neighborhood and hanging out on the porch watching the birds fly over the marsh. We highly recommend staying at the Cottage on Little Lucy Creek.

This is the best property I have rented in my time renting from VRBO. My brother and I and our two dogs visited Lady's Island for a week for my mother's birthday, and, as she isn't crazy about dogs in her house, we decided it was best to try to find accommodations elsewhere. We were beyond impressed with the Cottage at Little Lucy Creek! The owner Kathy was amazing to organize the stay with, Judi the manager had everything perfectly in order, and the property was the best appointed of all properties I have ever stayed in. We visited in the heat of summer, but the back porch was breezy and the dogs had tons of room to run and play - we didn't even need to take them to the dog park to get their energy out. The kitchen was unlike most rental kitchens- it was so stocked with equipment we almost had nowhere to put our food! Usually there is a sad skillet and perhaps one wine glass, but this cottage had everything we needed to have a lovely dinner party. I was worried that it was so well appointed that we would break or damage something, but somehow it all worked beautifully. The trust that the owners put in their guests really makes you want to take care of the place. I'd love to come back in a cooler month to enjoy the hot tub, fireplace and screened in porch properly . . .was just a bit too hot when we were there, but the outside deck and inside (with a fabulous sound system, AC, fans) did us all just fine. Thank you!
We have visited and loved Beaufort and the surrounding area for over 20 years. We make the 12 hour drive every summer. This year, by far, was the best accommodations we have ever enjoyed! The cottage on White Dogwood Rd. was perfect! It was very clean, well equipped and beautifully decorated, both inside and out. The King size bed was so comfortable, and waking up to the view of the salt marsh was truly amazing each day. Morning coffee on the screened porch and a relaxing soak in the hot tub after a day of boating, fishing, sun and sand were thoroughly enjoyed on this vacation. There were 2 driveways on the property which made parking 2 trucks and 2 boats very convenient. And a launch ramp was just over 2 miles away. Even our dogs enjoyed our stay. We will definitely be back to this special place!
Everything has been said and we agree with all those positives! It was great to be met by the manager, Judi, who showed us everything and was so welcoming. It was easy to see how the house is loved and cared for with its Southern antiques and interesting collections. So comfortable and everything we could want was there! We wanted a peaceful vacation and got it. Even though it was hot, we always caught some breeze on the porch which is huge and wonderful. We look forward to our next visit there. And, we loved our Hunting Island Beach visits. That's such a beautiful place.
One week later we are still "in the zone" thanks to a relaxing week in this delightful cottage on Little Lucy Creek. The accommodations far exceeded our already high expectations - if you can believe the pictures don't do the space justice! The perfect combination of luxurious and comfortable - with a keen eye for decor! We kept discovering beautiful details, accents and pieces that when combined really make this lovely cottage so very distinctive. We really did not want to leave! Thank you Kathy & Judy for tending to every special detail to make our visit so comfortable and memorable! We simply cannot get over the sense of peace and restful bliss that your blessed little cottage wrap us up in! We fell head over heels in love with the place and want very much to return!
Where do I start? This is a beautiful, comfortable home with gorgeous views of the marsh. I have been eyeing this home for many years, but it was always booked. I finally lucked out by staying for one week. The wait was definitely worth it! Judi was there to welcome us and give us a tour of the home. We have been to Beaufort twice before, so we have done all of the touristy things. We were just looking for a week away that was quiet and relaxing--and we got it! The home is beautifully decorated with antiques. The back porch is where we spent most of our time, enjoying our coffee in the morning and glass of wine in the afternoon. Luckily, it was cool while we were there, but we also enjoyed the four ceiling fans on the porch. We didn't watch much television, but it was nice to have the option with the big LCD television. We also took advantage of the Hunting Island pass that was provided by going to the beach a few days while we were there. They also have beach chairs and a beach cooler--everything has been thought of! We enjoyed going back to the Hunting island Lighthouse--this is a great place to learn the history of the Island and Lighthouse. More people should visit so they can learn about the hardships the lighthouse keepers and their families endured---it truly is a learning experience. We also went strawberry picking one day at Dempsey Farms and loaded up with fresh strawberries! We cooked in every night so that we could enjoy the quiet and view of the marsh. The kitchen has everything a chef could want--it was wonderful! We definitely had our fill of fresh shrimp and seafood this visit! Thanks Kathy for a wonderful and memorable stay! We would love to come back for another visit--I just hope that we are able to sneak in a week's stay another time in the near future!
The cottage is located away from the hustle bustle, noise and traffic and yet is only minutes away from grocery stores, drug stores, restaurants and other services. Hunting Island State Park is a jewel with miles of natural beaches, a lighthouse, nature center and fishing pier, walking and bicycle trails, and dogs are allowed if on a leash. We do include a season pass to the park for your use while you are at the cottage. Historic downtown Beaufort is only 5 miles from the cottage and has art galleries, shopping, casual or upscale dining overlooking the river waterfront park, a city marina and many historical features. The "Old Point" district, with Beaufort's earliest and most majestic dwellings, is adjacent to downtown and is a delight to tour by just strolling around, or you can take a buggy tour or a guided walking tour. You can see the houses and locations where The Big Chill, Forrest Gump and others were filmed. Charleston, Savannah and Hilton Head are all easy day trips. There is a free public boat launch nearby.
