The Cottage on Little Lucy Creek is the Lowcountry at its most spectacular. Treat yourself to an affordable luxury vacation. Relax, unwind and enjoy the serene beauty the Lowcountry has to offer.
Our cottage sits on Little Lucy Creek, nestled among the live oaks and long leaf pines on Lady's Island. This Lowcountry hideaway has a breathtaking view of the tidal salt marshes of Little Lucy Creek where you can watch the egrets and herons wade in the marsh grass and the osprey, eagles and hawks soar overhead and you can hear the pileated woodpeckers pecking and watch them flit from tree to tree. If you watch closely you can see the tiny island deer and the raccoons when they visit the surrounding woods. From the screened porch you can see the dolphins surface as they cruise down Little Lucy Creek and if you look closely you can see the otters playing along the banks.
This cottage is also our second home and is thus appointed with all the amenities you need to make your vacation stay a delight. Most of the furnishings are genuine period antiques, many of them southern in origin and from the early 1800's. The living room has 22-foot vaulted ceilings, southern yellow pine floors, gas fireplace with a life-sized portrait of General Duff Green (our adopted southern kin) over the mantle, 46' flat screen TV with enhanced audio sound bar and sub-woofer, sound system with speakers in living room and porch, wi-fi and cable hook-up computer internet access. There are 3 sets of French doors, from the living room and both bedrooms, which overlook the tidal salt marshes and provide access to the screened porch. The breezes from across the creek and salt marsh are very refreshing. All rooms, including the porch, have ceiling paddle fans or there is central air if you prefer.
The fully equipped kitchen has granite countertops with breakfast bar, gas range, full-size refrigerator with icemaker, microwave, wine cooler and is completely furnished with cookware, toaster, blender, mixer, coffeemaker and bean grinder, etc.
The master bedroom has a king-size pillow-top bed, TV, large closet, master bath with large vanity and a ceramic tile walk-in shower stall with rain shower head. The guest bedroom also has a pillow-top king bed, TV, large closet and a private full bath with tub and shower. From both bedrooms you can wake up and watch the sunrise across the salt marsh while still relaxing in bed.
There is a huge screened porch (50 x 16 ft) that overlooks the salt marshes, creek and the woods. The tides going in and out and the light at different times of the day provide an ever-changing view. The winds over the water provide a cooling breeze. The porch allows you to enjoy being outside any time of the day or night without worrying about the no-see-ums or mosquitoes. You can enjoy your morning coffee or a lovely glass of wine in the evening on the screen porch. There are 2 sofas, 6 rockers and chairs, dining table that seats 8, and a beverage refrigerator. Even if the weather is a bit cool or stormy you can enjoy the screened porch when you lower the canvas panels with isinglass windows. There is also a gas heater which can be used to take the chill off the porch if necessary in the morning or evening.
Imagine stepping out onto the back deck and soaking in the 4 person hot tub while sipping wine and gazing at the stars overhead. There is a patio area with a gas grill where you can grill your fresh seafood and veggies from the outdoor market. There is a large open deck area and a picket fence surrounds the beautifully landscaped yard. There is a parking area for your boat trailer or extra vehicle. For your trips to the nearby beach, we have sand chairs, beach towels, coolers, and picnic baskets available for your use.
The cottage is only 4 miles from all major amenities and only 5 miles from historic downtown Beaufort where you can have lunch outside by the riverfront park, take a carriage ride, shop, sit by the water and watch the boats and even see a dolphin or two pass by. Savannah, Charleston or Hilton Head are all within +- an hour and a half drive for easy day trips; Visit Fort Sumter and other Civil War historical sites, shop on King Street or in the local open marketplace, take plantation tours, go antiquing, take a riverboat or sailing schooner tour, sit on the park bench where Forrest Gump sampled his box of chocolates, and dine at one of the many wonderful restaurants in the Lowcountry.
If you love to spend time at the beach you will love Hunting Island State Park. There are 3 miles of pristine secluded ocean beach which are only 15 minutes away. These beaches are totally undeveloped with the beaches left natural and NO houses, condos, apartments, restaurants, commercial development or development of any kind. Fish off of the dock at the nature center. You can fish or crab off of the marsh boardwalks out over the marsh. Be sure to climb the lighthouse and experience the spectacular ocean view. Watch the shrimp boats coming in with the catch of the day when you stop at the local seafood market for fresh seafood to grill for dinner. Also on your way home are roadside farm stands with fresh-picked fruits and vegetables. If you have a boat or kayaks there is a public launch just 2 miles away. There is a golf course less than 1 mile away.
To make your visit most pleasurable, our on-site property manager will be here to welcome you upon your arrival and will make sure you get settled in and have everything you need to be comfortable. She lives in an apartment over the detached garage and is nearby if you need assistance with anything. She is a Licensed Massage Therapist, NCBTM, and is there to make your stay even more memorable, she also offers, at an additional charge, massages in-house or at her office, starting at $60 an hour.
Pets will be considered on an individual basis and will require an additional cleaning fee and deposit. The yard is fully fenced however the fence along the marsh is only +-18 inches high so as not to impede the view. There is a doggy door from the screened porch to the deck area. We expect pets to be on their best behavior so that they can enjoy your vacation with you!
We prefer to have only monthly rentals for January through May but occasionally we are able to make exceptions.
