About this property
Grandpa’s Place. Exclusive, Stunning, Private Log Home. Firepit & Pond.
Grandpa’s Place is our family home we are offering to you, for your family to enjoy. It can become your special place to build memories with your family for years to come.. It is one of a kind. This beautiful property is at the end of a gravel road (3 miles of gravel) with acres and acres of United States Forest Service surrounding it. The home is situated on 18 acres with trees, open prairie, natural springs, a firepit and a spring fed pond. You could hike and bike for endless hours and endless miles, or you could sit and take in the view. Built in 2004 by Jorgenson Log Homes and finished by Jenniges Masonry, it is one of the premier Black Hills homes. It has central air, fiber optic WiFi, attached parking garage and a large deck with rocking chairs for your pleasure. The kitchen has fully stocked utensils and cooking pots and pans. The pond has a small paddle boat for your use.
My husbands’ folks built this home to be close to their grandkids. As the kids grew and life changed, so did their plans. In building their dream home, they spared no attention to detail and it’s a beautiful, secluded property with all the amenities you would want. The house and attached garage are over 5000 square feet. It is air conditioned and has a beautiful open floor plan.
Grandpa’s Place is 6 miles from Custer and nestled into United States Forest Service. Close and central to everything, but quiet and exclusive for your family. This gorgeous property and home is about 35 minutes from Mt Rushmore, 15 minutes to Crazy Horse, 30 min to Keystone, 20 min from Hill City, 40 min to Hot Springs, 50 minutes from Rapid City and right next door to our largest park on the state, Custer State Park.
Grandpa’s Place has an elegant log home with an attached 3 stall garage and has views of the Cathedral Spires. A well maintained gravel road winds it’s way through majestic forest and breathtaking views into this retreat. The property has a spring fed pond with bass and perch and a large firepit. We have lots of room to roam.
This is a stunning property with all the comforts of home. Enjoy living spaces where kids can spread out in the basement to visit or play, along with a nice living room complete with piano and plenty of sofa space off the kitchen upstairs. This creates an enjoyable space for everyone. It rarely gets hot in the Black Hills, but we have central air for your comfort. The firepit and pond create a lifetime of memories. Paddle boat or fish, or just simply sit and watch ducks and geese swim and fly. There are always turtles interested in dock goers.
Hike, bike and take a walk away from it all. Grandpa’s Place is located next to Custer State Park and close to Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse and all the sites.
You don’t want to miss this opportunity to come stay at the premier property in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
Owners, Matt and Joy, live nearby and know how to care for guests and their property. Make this your memory making spot with your kids and grandkids or splurge on an executive retreat for your staff. Enjoy Grandpa’s place like we do. Laughing, loving and enjoying time with each other in a beautiful, soothing, peaceful, calm and serene landscape. Do as much or as little as you want to.
Custer has some highly rated restaurants including Skogen Kitchen (reservations expected) , Sage Creek Grille (Wait and dine) and The Wolf (great indoor and outdoor seating). It has top notch brewery and dining at The Pounding Fathers. We like to keep you fed and happy with breakfast at The Baker’s Bakery and Our Place and we like you to be fueled with coffee at Calamity Jane’s and Miners. Excellent and unique shopping at Good Karma, South Dakota Outdoor Shop, A walk in the woods, Art Expressions, Ken’s Minerals, Dave’s Rock Shop. Antiques downtown and outside of town at Boyd’s Antiques are always a hit with the pickers.
Take a quick day trip to Hill City, Keystone, Hot Springs or Hermosa or Rapid City.
Be adventurous and mountain climb with Sylvan climbing. Have a beer at The Buglin Bull, The Frontier Bar, The Goldpan or The Pounding Fathers. Enjoy Pizza at Pizza Mill, Pizza Works or Pizza Hit.
Hit up the best burger in the nation at Burger and Bun Co and check out their organic grocery next door called The Wild Sage.
Take a walk on the Custer Skywalk near the Custer Chamber of Commerce.
Drive along Iron Mtn Road, Needles Hwy and the wildlife loop road. Visit one of the lakes nearby. Hike Sylvan Lake. Paddle on Legion Lake. Fish from the dock at Stockade Lake.
I love getting up early and hiking Harney Peak/Black Elk Peak at sunrise.
Do I sound like a local… I am.
Consider a family vacation for Christmas, Thanksgiving or Spring Break. Get away with the girlfriends for the weekend. Make your stay even sweeter with a spa day at Moccasin Hot Springs (in Hot Springs) and book an evening meal. Wine and dine your friends, or take the grandkids on a trip. We have it all.

About the host
Hosted by Matt Brown and Joy Falkenburg

I'm a family doctor with a small farm down the road and I own The Little Red Inn, The Brown House and Grandpa's place. I believe in supporting the community and being a good philanthropist. I think that human connection is important and that more people should try to disconnect and spend time in nature and with their families. Vacations and introspection is important and this is the perfect place for that. I like to buy properties that are close by and improve the drive to work. I love seeing people enjoy the houses that we rent and want to decorate and supply them with things I would want when I travel. I hope to create a magical and memorable vacation for you and your family.
