Overview

About the property

Home on 2.5 acres with privacy and scenic views. 2 miles from downtown Custer

This is a 2 level home with 2 full size bedrooms and full bath on the upper level. The master bedroom and bath are on the main level. There is another smaller bedroom on the main level. The 3/4 bath is on the main level and shares the space with the laundry facility. All bedrooms have queen size beds. We have a 105 gallon hot water heater so you shouldn't run out of hot water. Vacationing in groups is fun but yet people need to be able to spread out and have some personal space. The main floor is spacious allowing for plenty of room for all guests. On the main level, there is a game room with pool table that also has ping pong table top in case you want to change your game. There is an outdoor hot tub that comfortably seats 4 adults. Our guests enjoy relaxing in the hot tub or sitting on the deck watching the deer and turkeys stroll through the property. It is not unusual to see see deer with their young fawn from the end of June through the end of summer. The kitchen is typically a gathering place and you won't be disappointed in this one. There are 500 square feet and includes a 46 inch flat screen TV. It is fully stocked ready for you to prepare your favorite dishes. There are a total of 3 big screen TV's with dish satellite service throughout the home. There is Wi-fi access. You will enjoy a relaxing evening on the 32 foot covered cedar deck. This allows you to enjoy being outside rain or shine. There is a Jenn-Air gas grill and a table for outdoor dining. There is an outdoor dog kennel for your pet to relax while you are enjoying the Black Hills. There is an attached 2 car garage to protect your vehicle from the hail that is common in this area. There is very little traffic in this area since it is a dead end road. You will be able to go for a walk after a long day of driving. The property is 2 miles from access to the Mickelson trail. It is 4 miles to the entrance of Custer State Park. This property offers privacy and allows you to be close to all that Custer has to offer.

About Sarah Schryvers

The original home was built in 1987. We built an addition and renovated the entire home in 2011. I have a large family that enjoy coming to the Black Hills. We renovated to accommodate large groups of people. We enjoy 4 wheeling and often leave from our home to access the many trails in the Black Hills Forest Service. I also enjoy cycling and will use the Mickelson trail but will also take my road bike out from the bottom of our subdivision. Hiking is a family past time. There are many trails in Custer State Park and in the Black Hills National Forest. Harney Peak is a short drive and offers a moderately challenging hike with beautiful views at the top as your reward. We golf at Rocky Knolls 9 hole course in Custer. We also golf the Southern Hills Golf Course in Hot Springs, SD. It is a beautiful 18 hole course on nearly 6000 acres.

Sarah Schryvers purchased this house in 1997

Why Sarah Schryvers chose Black Hills

Proximity and Spaciousness! You will feel like you are miles away yet you are very close to all of the things you want to do. I have stayed in VRBO properties and have found many of them to be compact. This property is anything but compact.

What makes this house unique

The covered deck is definitely a plus. It is not unusual to have evening rain storms. You can even enjoy the rain without getting all wet, unless that is what you want to do.

The family vacation home finder

  • 4 of 5

The home worked very well for our family. My husband and I were able to stay on the main floor and the kids were upstairs. The home is on an acreage in a development of similar homes but there was plenty of space between homes so you still felt you were out in the Hills. The kitchen had almost every appliance you could want which made cooking easy. I have learned to bring my own non-stick pans as they are extremely hard to keep in good condition with so many people using them. The kids enjoyed the hot tub and fire pit. The Owner was very accommodating when I called to ask questions. If I had any suggestions it would be to have more stools around the bar area in the kitchen because that was where everyone wanted to be and it was a great gathering space. Thanks Sarah.

Owner's Response: We are glad that you enjoyed your stay. There are additional folding bar stools in the pantry closet that you may not have found. I will make a note to let people know they are available.

Black Hills wedding event

  • 5 of 5

We stayed last weekend with 5 couples to attend a Black Hills wedding. This VRBO more than met our expectations. We used all 4 bedrooms and the 5th couple slept on an air mattress in the living room. They also had space and privacy, even though they didn't have their own bedroom. We enjoyed the home so much that we spent most of our non-wedding time hanging out together. We spent a lot of time on the covered porch, saw deer, loved the hot tub, especially with the full moon. The kitchen was big enough for multiple people to cook together, and all 10 of us were able to eat together in the large kitchen. Beds were very comfortable, home was clean. Neighbors so friendly when we walked. Would definitely stay there again. Thanks to our hosts!

The Property was well kept and the house was clean.

Having 2 garage stalls was great. Deer and rabbits were everywhere outside. The home was clean and bedding was in great shape. Our security deposit was returned by the time we got back from our trip. I would rent there again without hesitation. The owners made things very easy.

Nice Area

  • 3 of 5

The house was located in a quiet location and closed to most of attractions places in Custer. We did not have a problem of finding it via GPS. We had a good time in Custer, SD and thanked to the owner for sharing their house with us. However; we would like to provide some additional comments such as:

1) One of the two car garage door was created fierce vibrations when it is opening, resulting in a loud and distracting noise. We were worry any time of using it because we may not be able to get our car out if it was stop opening.

2) The requirement to remove the "Pillow Cover" at the end of the trip was giving us a chance to notice some of the pillows were not cleaned (Existing big stain). It gave us disgusting felling at the end of the trip.

3) The trash container should be empty after each rental leaving the house so the next customer has room to dump the new trash bags. Or additional trash container should be provided. During our trip, the 48 Gallon trash container was not empty and did not give us much space left. To avoid leaving a trash bag out. We ended up to carry one of the trash bag with us to the rest area where we could legally dumped it.

Owner's Response: 1) The garage doors have Chamberlain belt drive garage door openers that are less than 5 years old. The garage doors are heavy duty metal doors on metal tracks. There is also a safety eye to avoid the garage door closing on small children or pets. 2) All pillows and mattresses used by guests have hypoallergenic covers. 3) There are extra trash receptacles available. This guest called with numerous needs such as the hair dryer didn't work and then called back to say they figured out that they needed to push the reset button on the cord. But did not call about where to put overflow trash. This guest also took our UTV on a joy ride. The UTV was in a pole building that was listed as off limits to guests.
