Why Jeanne Vaughan chose North Auburn

It is beautiful, well appointed, and we appreciate our guests.

What makes this house unique

The greatest compliment that most of our guests give is spending time at the pool and pool house instead of running off. Just think of the times when you absolutely loved your accommodations. That is what you will find here at our place.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This really is as good it gets. For anyone (especially a couple) wishing to explore and enjoy the great history of the California gold country, there is no better place to call your home away from home then the Vaughn's Cottage Pool House. It's a spectacular find. The place is immaculate, well furnished -- not with furnishings that one would expect to find in a rental unit -- but the well thought out care that goes into decorating a place for one's family and friends. It's truly a majestic cottage. From the hardwood floors to the granite counter tops to the double-headed two person walk-in shower to the luxurious bathrobes to the gorgeous fresh flowers throughout -- the Vaughns keep in mind every detail that makes a stay special. We were welcomed with a bottle of Mt. Vernon Zinfandel. And Jeannie also brought over fresh buttermilk and her own special pancake and waffle mix (with the fresh eggs). The gourmet kitchen with high end china and cooking utensils produced a sumptuous first morning's breakfast. My husband and I had a super time -- and the Vaughns are pet friendly. We brought our well- behaved black lab -- who enjoyed the expansive property. From waking up to flocks of geese to slipping for a soak in the hot tub to cuddling by the fireplaces -- there are two -- one in the cottage living room and one by the hot tub -- this is a great place. There is even a welcome book that lists top restaurants and things to do in the area. Robert Vaughn's recommendations for Grass Valley and Nevada city were spot-on. And the local French restaurant just down the street -- it doesn't look great from the outside, it's next to a bail's bondsman -- was the best meal we had on our trip -- and there are some really good restaurants up and down route 49. Thank you, thank you! Tom and I had a wonderful respite out of the City -- and we absolutely enjoyed the amazing friendliness of Auburn -- the Vaughns are very much a part of that refreshingly friendly and cordial community.

It’s like being in your own private oasis!!

  • 5 of 5

Sometimes your personal excitement and expectation will overwhelm the reality of your selected location. Lay every fear aside, as that is not so with this treasure. The grounds are beautiful and orchard feeling as you arrive. There are views out every window and farm fresh eggs in the fridge. Beautiful shower with premier bathing essentials. We stayed three days...and never left the cottage!! Honestly, the kitchen is top of the line and we had the perfect amount of room in the fridge/freezer combo to eat in all our meals. The bed and couches were comfortable and the decor was current and charming. We only live twenty minutes away...but we’ll be back to this gem for more personal retreat time soon!!!

Beautiful and very well kept

  • 5 of 5

We went for a long weekend in October 2017 and had a great time. Auburn is a really nice town and much larger than we expected. Lots to do in Auburn, if you are bored, it's your own fault. The pool cottage is really beautiful inside and out. Inside is custom built with beautiful kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and living room. They even supply nice shampoo, conditioner etc. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to try the fresh eggs from their chickens, but it's so nice that they leave them for you, as well as fresh coffee and condiments, spices, etc. Lovely stay and would highly recommend it! Thanks Jeanne and Bob!!

Luxury facilities and lovely location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent 10 days in the pool house and even though the weather didn't cooperate we loved it. Everything is provided, and everything is top of the range.

We didn't use the pool as it was too cold and wet but we did enjoy the nightly light show. Bob and Jeanne were wonderful hosts as everyone else has said! Their daughter was also great and did a guided tour of the animals for our grand children who were staying in the carriage house.

We grilled out a couple of times and enjoyed the spa and the outdoor fire. The outside room is great - only wish we could have packed it in our suitcase and brought it home with us!

Couple of words of warning - it really wouldn't be suitable for two couples unless you are very friendly!! And the bed is a small queen - for those used to a king sized bed that can be a problem.

The property is outstanding!

  • 5 of 5

We love coming to the Auburn Pool House. Every window you look out has a beautiful view.

The property is so welcoming. We love the flowers, the citrus and the farmland around.

It is so fun to look out and see goats, chickens, turkeys and cows.

Inside the home is just perfect for a couple. The kitchen is easy to use, complete with everything you need. One can sit on the outdoor patio for breakfast, lunch and dinner and

love the privacy and the scenery. The hosts are just that: Wonderful Hosts. It is a special place to stay.

Serene Country Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a cozy, peaceful spot to get away for a few days after the holiday, and this delightful poolhouse was the answer to our prayers! It was a roomy one bedroom apartment, above the poolhouse, equipped with the modern comforts - a wi-fi that met the needs of a wired husband, a kitchen that was thoughtfully stocked with cookware, utensils, nice quality kitchen small appliances, and even a generous selection of kitchen seasonings and staples. The poolhouse was decorated tastefully and welcomingly, and the large fireplace kept the main room toasty warm for enjoying the books & games in the living room cabinets, or even just stretching out on the sofas and chairs for TV watching. Both the bedroom window and the kitchen window overlooked wide open fields, and from our second floor apartment windows (and the large deck outside our front door), we enjoyed the picturesque views. The poolhouse was a stone's throw from the owners' lovely home, and we had an opportunity to have an enjoyable conversation with Bill and Jeanne, the gracious hosts/owners. They're well versed in hospitality and pay attention to even the smallest details to ensure a welcoming experience for their guests. The distance between the main house and poolhouse was far enough for privacy, but near enough in case we had any questions or needs. Our hosts shared recommendations of some of their favorite restaurants in the nearby towns, where we enjoyed stellar dinners! They even brought us a dozen eggs from their own hens, which paired nicely with bacon and toast for breakfast! The property has a pool, hot tub, an outdoor "living room" for guests with a BBQ and pizza oven, outdoor volleyball/badminton court, ping pong table - just enough activities for a relaxing getaway. This place is a treasure - we're already planning a return visit!

Wonderful Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

This was the 2nd time my family stayed here, and it was just as I remembered it. I can't say enough about the owners and their property~ absolutely wonderful! We stayed at the Pool House which was immaculately kept with all the extras of a resort and comforts of home. This time we didn't venture out and decided to spend the whole time at our little oasis. The owner's children were courteous and even invited my two younger boys to play a pool game with them... they had so much fun! After two nights, we didn't want to leave and will definitely be back again next year.
