We had such an amazing time here!

This house was exactly what we needed after camping on Maui. It was comfortable and clean, and it's in a great location. I would definitely stay here again!

Comfortable home with a lovely vista of distant mountains

  • 4 of 5

The Vista House is centrally located near the Princeville shopping mall on the main road toward Hanalai. The home has almost everything you need along with the friendly occasional geckos. Beds are comfortable! The road noise is not very bothersome because conversation, etc tunes it out. Enjoyed the wrap around deck and nearby trails. Downstairs office/small apartment is occupied by person that when available was helpful in sharing area highlights.

Idyllic & quaint holiday tucked away outside Hanalei Bay

  • 5 of 5

What an idyllic, scenic and quiet home tucked away between Princeville and Hanalei Bay! My parents, brother and partner stayed in Jane's home for 10 days over the holidays and we loved every minute. The views are stunning and the wrap-around porch outside is an excellent place to soak it all it. The high ceilings and the wood inside are also lovely -- plenty of character and charm! There was enough room for the five of us to relax and coexist. The kitchen was great for us to cook in when we wanted to stay in. The home checked every box we were looking for: great location, a good functional kitchen, and lots of sleeping/living space -- in fact, we didn't even use the loft but it would be PERFECT for kids. While most appliances are updated, some of the furniture, TV and pots and pans are a bit dated, but that added to the charm and didn't necessarily take away from our experience at all! We LOVED the house like it was our own. Jane does a great job caring for the property. We'll be back!

Very satisfied customers!

We stayed in Hanalei Vista House in October. What a treat it was. We were there for 10 days of relaxation. And we got that. The house was beautiful and clean. It was just the two of us, but we will be back back again. The wrap around porch was great and we spent many hours out there just relaxing and enjoying the tropical view. It's close to Hanalei and Princeville and the Farmers market. We had fresh limes for your Margaritas and the bananas were almost ripe when we left. I wanted to stay longer. It was nice being so close to Princeville and Hanalei. The really neat thing was the entertainment the Gegkos provided each night when we turned the lights on. They were outside but we managed to get a picture that looked like they were kissing! A wonderful place to stay. We have stayed many time in this area and this is a great place for the price.

Perfect location, close to everything on North Shore

  • 5 of 5

The Hanalei Vista house is a perfect location for staying on the North Shore. It is located between Hanalei and Princeville, close to beaches, botanical gardens, farmers markets and the golf course, if you like to golf. The house is open and has lots of room for a family or two couples. It even has a loft! One of the best features we enjoyed was the huge wrap-around deck with a beautiful view of tropical vegetation, the mountains and Hanalei Bay. Sunsets were gorgeous! We enjoyed cooking fresh Ahi on the grill bought nearby at the Dolphin Fish Market and fruit smoothies for breakfast with fresh fruits from the nearby farmers market. It was like staying in paradise. Our family will stay here again.

stayed one week 3/16/16 to 3/23/16

The house was ok and the location is close to hanalei with plenty of space for the 3 of us. I came with my best friend and 5 year old son who started his life in hanalei. We came to scatter the ashes of his mother who has recently passed and to take some photos as a travel photographer. I have stayed in hundreds of homes all over the world as a travel photographer and since i live in hawaii.. .hundreds more in hawaii all over. I love the area and although we were not at the house much it had everything we needed. We washed our dished and left our trash out by the curb double bagged and even vacuumed the carpets before leaving. Imagine my surprise when i get home to receive this message from the owner " There were maggots , which I hope I

got all of, found them in the kitchen by trash can and on the carpet and

rug by the slider door".

This was totally unacceptable and demonstrates a lack of respect for the

house and for my cleaner. I charged you for cleaning which is the

normal charge by my cleaner for respectful, fairly diligent departing

guests. Jane"

I don't even know where to begin - there were no maggots when we left but could a fly have gotten in a house in the middle of a rainy jungle? with eggs hatching after we left? sure.

They weren't there when we left - and again we washed all the dishes and took the trash to the curb when we left. It is possible a fly got in and the eggs hatched after we left - I don't feel that is a good enough reason to be so rude. I live here - i know there are ants and bugs, gecko's, mosquitoes, and after a rain they can sometimes be a pain. I bleach my trash cans at home and keep them under the kitchen sink. ...I should have known when Jane emailed 4 times about the check coming in the mall on time even though it was mailed the fasted possible way at the post office with tracking, that she might be just in it for money with no aloha.. I run a customer service business as a nature photographer and I cant remember ever calling a customer disrespectful. ...and Jane you are all the way on the mainland so you really have less of an awareness what happened than anyone.. ...just assume the worst seems to be the case with you?

If it was my business - i would have just paid the extra small fee and cleaned the bugs.. ..maybe moved the trash in the kitchen to under the sink behind a cabinet.. done!

that was my third and last time in one of your houses.

Owner's Response: I have a 15 year vacation rental history with this house. The vast majority of my guests are wonderful, caring, respectful people. So this was an extremely rare situation for me to encounter. My cleaner of 10 years included comments to me via e mail on the presence of maggots at the rental upon her arrival to clean the house. Check out is at 10 am and she arrived shortly thereafter. Maggots did not magically appear in the short interim. I believed the recently departing guests needed to be made aware of the situation so I forwarded her exact comments to them. Obviously, they disagreed and believed I should have just glossed it over and ignored the situation and I certainly should not have been so rude as to bring it to their attention. Let us be honest: maggots are the result of people leaving organic matter ( ie trash) unaddressed for too long. PERIOD It is very sad that this guest is in complete denial and cannot accept any responsibility for the behavior that caused the situation. This is not a money issue. It is not possible to put a dollar value on carelessness which crosses the line into disrespect. Jane Helmich, owner
