Our house is a 2 minute walk from Glanum, one of the finest Greco-Roman ruins which is acknowledged as one of the most important in the region. The couvent of Saint Paul de Mausole where Vincent Van Gogh used to live and paint is right above our house at the footstep of the Alpilles. 'La nuit étoilée', his famous painting, exhibited at the MOMA in New York, was painted in St. Remy. You will discover his other paintings along a marked path.
Those are only a sample of the many cultural and scenic activities to do around the area.
Saint Remy de Provence sits right at the border of the Vallee des Baux, home to some of the finest olive oil, honey, cheese, wine and other delights that South of France has to offer.
Besides, Saint Remy de Provence is home to a strong local provencal tradition, hosting a regionally acknowledged provencal market every wednesday, ferias and traditional fests all year long as well as multiple other local markets and festivals.
Because we live in Paris on a daily basis, we want to share our love of the area and the house with you. Come in Les Oliviers de Saint Paul for a cosy and warm experience, while benefiting from one of the best locations to go and discover this fantastic area where the dazzling light and the Alpilles have attracted so many painters.
Having been vacationing over there for the past 20 years, we will be more than happy to give you some tips and recommendations as to our favourite places and must-do sights and activities!
Year Purchased: 2004
About: Since the first time my husband and I went to Saint Rémy de Provence, we have been dazzled by the Alpilles light, the characteristic scent of the provencal markets, the taste of the olive oil and of the rosé wine of les Baux de Provence. Our dream then, was to build a house where we could welcome our children and friends. Saint Rémy's charm and authenticity were the reasons of our immediate choice. We hope you'll have as much of a great experience of the unique Provence lifestyle that St Rémy provides as we did and still do.
Why St-Rémy-de-Provence, France:
We love Provence and its lifestyle, the light, painted by so many artists like Van Gogh or Cezanne, the sunshine weather. We choose St Rémy as it is a charming and lovely village. The house is a ten minute walk from the historical center, which makes it very convenient. It is in a very quiet area and the pool and the garden are very peaceful. Finally, the access is very easy from Paris (2hrs 40min by TGV train)
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The open-air provencal market (on Wednesdays in Saint Rémy): This regionally well-known market will offer you a varied choice of fresh products, provencal fabrics, locally produced olive oil. You will be amazed by the profusion of colors and scents which will submerge you! The Alpilles Hills: These hills are very close to the house and the tracks can be used by any walker (children, families, hikers), runner or mountain biker. Road bikers also enjoy the unique landscapes of Provence and can bike from the challenging Mont Ventoux to the flat Camargue. Walking from Saint Rémy to les Baux de Provence: You will enjoy an amazing view of the region all along. For photos lovers! Don't forget a visit at the Cathedrale de Lumieres, a unique light and sound show located in the former quarries. The Golf courses: There are several beautiful golf courses in the area, such as in les Baux de Provence (18 holes: Domaine de Manville) or Mouriès (18 holes: Domaine de Servanes) The easy access: the TGV Avignon train station as well as the nearby Marseille-Marignane airport allow you to come either from Paris, Lyon, Marseille or anywhere else in Europe in a very short time. Many more activities in the area! We have a book full of ideas at your disposal in the house.
