“The Sugarhouse” is our ode to Vermont, complete with a beautiful claw foot bathtub (with shower) and vaulted ceiling, designed from a traditional Vermont sugarhouse. The smell of the local white cedar interior is as sweet as any grade of syrup. The Sugarhouse is also the “greenest” of our cottages, utilizing almost all local and recycled materials. A pine plank breakfast nook, spalted maple trim, and marble corner sink to name a few. This versatile cottage will accomodate everyone from honeymooners to lovers of white powder days.
The Sugarhouse at Sheady Acres: Sheady Acres is at the gateway to one of the most unspoiled areas in the country, The Northeast Kingdom. Although there are many activities in the area, the main attraction continues to be the great expanses of natural habitat that exist in the region. Jay Peak Ski Area is five miles up the road and Stowe, Burlington and Montreal are all under one and a half hours away. Our Cottages were designed with the savvy traveler in mind. They are outfitted with a fridge/freezer, convection oven, microwave and full compliment of dishware and kitchen amenities. All Cottages have natural Queen size New Englander pillow top mattresses, flat screen satellite television, and free wireless internet. On demand hot water, and adjustable propane heat will keep you warm on those cold north country nights. Locally owned and operated, your hosts are knowledgeable about all things Vermont. These cottages have been a labor of love, and we hope you enjoy them as much as we have.
What to bring: Think motel without the shared wall space. We provide bedding, towels, etc. Don’t forget your camera and recreational toys.
How to get here: We are located on VT Route 242 exactly three miles from Montgomery Center. After you pass the Belfry Restaurant (if it is possible), we are 0.7 miles on the right. Coming from Jay Peak we are about five miles on your left.
Please contact us for information on our other properties, our 'pet friendly' Carribean Cottage, Irish Farm House and Adobe cottages and the Tea House (not pet friendly). Thank You!

About Shawna or Eamon O'Shea
Sheady Acres started over 15 years ago when I purchased 25 acres of prime meadow and woodlands on Rte 242 in Montgomery Center, Vermont. A treehouse was my first endeavor where I lived for a few years with my dog. The West was calling my name, however, so I spent a few winters in Winter Park, Co and Jackson Hole, WY always returning in the spring to my first love, Vermont. My wife and I met in Winter Park, and we’ve been married for over 11 years. We have a home that I built on Shéady Acres that we share with our daughters and our playful companions Howard and Fluffy Tickles. I’ve been in the carpentry/construction business for over 20 years. I dabble with pencil drawings and started focusing on cottages that I could design and build myself and rent to visitors who come to the Jay Peak Area. Having traveled to different parts of the world, I was inspired to create The Sugar House which is pure Vermont, the Caribbe which is my interpretation of the Caribbean cottage and the Tea House which is my take on the Japanese Pagoda. The Farmhouse will be number four and the Irish cottages I saw in County Cork certainly influenced its design. My wife decorated the interiors to enhance the individual flavors of each cottage so your experience will continue as you open the door and head inside. Sheady Acres Cottages have been a labor of love and an expression of creativity that we sincerely hope will be shared by those who come and visit us. Give us a try. We look forward to hearing from you.

Why Shawna or Eamon O'Shea chose Montgomery Center
I chose to build a vacation rental in Montgomery Center, Vt because I grew up in this area and love Vermont. Watching the bikers soar down the hill from Jay Peak and the skiers go by on those powder days, I got the feeling that there are many people who would love an alternative type of property to rent while on vacation; a place with its own character and uniqueness, a place different from any other they've ever stayed at. Nearby are mountain bike trails, a golf course, the Long Trail (hiking), incredible sunsets, a ski area and a disc golf couse on site. It's the perfect place to have a vacation! We donate a percentage of our profits to the local animal shelter.
What makes this Cottage unique
There is a very popular restaurant and bar within walking distance of our property, about 1/2 mile downhill. Jay Brook is a small hike behind the cottage where one can go on a hot day to cool off. Check out our Pet Friendly cottages the Caribbean, Adobe and Irish Farm House . We guarantee your dog will love this place as much as you will. In the winter you will have access to acres of snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. We have added a beautiful gazebo that one finds by following a stone path into the woods. A hot tub awaits the tired skiers, bikers, riders, hikers and those who just want to sit back and gaze at the stars.

Caribe Cottage - Spent 2 nights in this warm, cozy cottage. Comfortable & inviting 1 room for you & your Pet! Beautifully decorated, with everything you need. Friendly, helpful & accommodating owners. Close to Jay Peak & Montgomery Center.
Tea House cottage - Fun, authentic, cozy cottage with Asian Flair. Perfect Spring Skiing weekend
Pet Friendly Adobe Cottage
This was our second visit to Sheady Acres for our annual snowboarding vacation with our 2 dogs. Previously we stayed in the Irish Farmhouse and this time we stayed in the Adobe and once again we couldn't have been more comfortable. Eamon's (and friends) construction work on these cottages is meticulous as is the design. Shawna and Eamon make sure you are 100% comfortable and have everything you could need. They also drive their snowmobile all over the trails behind the cottages so you can have a nice walk on the packed snow and our pups loved that.
I could go on and on. Here's the main points...Dog friendly, owners super friendly, cozy, clean, newer construction, hot tub outside, loft bed upstairs, pullout bed couch downstairs, 10 minutes drive to Jay peak on the same road and fair price.
My husband and I stayed in the Tea House over New Years weekend. Had a wonderful stay! the tea house is cozy and perfect for a couple. Bring your slippers, wood floors! Beautiful property to snow shoe on. Nice hot tub.
My 9 year old daughter and I recently stayed in the Caribe Cottage for a fun weekend getaway. The cottage was adorable and much to my daughter's delight with the O'Shea's permission we were able to sneak a peek into the other vacant cottages (all cottages were warm, welcoming and beautifully done). We also have the fun memory of running to the hot tub in our flip flops in the snow! I was so pleased that it was so close to Jay Peak as that's where we found ourselves skiing, dining and hitting the awesome water park. We're fans and will be back.
Cozy Home away from Home Getaway
We recently stayed at the farmhouse at Sheady Acres. Our family absolutely loved this cozy cottage. The craftsmanship, décor, and amenities are everything that you need for a comfortable home away from home feel. The cottage was clean, well maintained, and cared for. The owners have thought of everything that you could possibly need to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. They are conveniently located close to Jay Peak ski resort, with other charming towns nearby offering plenty to do and see. We highly recommend Sheady Acres if you're looking for a quiet, quality family or romantic getaway.
Great Ski Getaway
My wife and I had a wonderful experience here. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful and the cottage was great. While the kitchenette was small, it was surprisingly well stocked. The heated floors in the bathroom were clutch. The bed was very comfortable. The hot tub was perfect for unwinding after a day on the slopes. Even for double the price, I doubt you could find a private cabin to beat this place. The only downside is the that the drive isn't paved, so if you happen to get a snow dump, make sure you've got a car that can handle it.
Long Trail (4 miles away), 18- hole disc golf course on site, Vast Trail (3 miles away or 5 if you need parking), snowshoeing.
