About Clay Carver

Clay and Janet Carver- owners and renters for over 10 years. It is fun to have our own place in Ellijay where we always relax and feel like we truly get away from it all--- but its only an hour plus from Atlanta. We love going into downtown Ellijay to shop and eat. Our daughters have enjoyed the cabin at every age. Tubing is a blast in the summer but winter is fun with the fire and hot tub. We hope you enjoy it too!

Clay Carver purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Clay Carver chose Northwest High Country

We rented the cabin next door (from VRBO)- and fell in love with the area. River Edge cabin is less than an hour from our house and we have enjoyed it immensely with family and friends. We love tubing and hot tubbing and the different relaxing atmosphere of Ellijay and being on a river. The kids have invited many friends over the years who just love it. Perfect for a girls' weekend- no one wants to leave and they always ask if we rent it out- now we do! Have had Thanksgiving there as well as Mother's Day celebrations and family reunions. Good guys' getaway with golfing in Ellijay, hiking, tubing and also football and grilling. It is a fun relaxing easy change of place and pace.

What makes this cabin unique

Being right on the Coosawattee River in a beautiful peaceful gated community is very special and unique. Guests can tube to the deck stairs and be home- then drive just a few miles to go get the car. Another key benefit is the easy drive to and from our cabin- some roads in mountainous areas can be dangerous or way far back- ours is easy to get to. If it's wintertime- outdoor firepit and sitting by the river in blankets is a great time to visit and just talk. The cabin itself is decorated in 'mountain style'. Another unique benefit is the many decks- in front, upstairs, screened porch and out by the river- to read, visit etc. The motif of the cabin is all fish, moose, bear and everyone loves it- all wood floors and walls give the cabin the fresh mountain smell. The property is also flat from the road to the river so it's great for kids and adults alike- lots of room outside and in. There are great restaurants (even Starbucks) within 5 miles or less- a very cute downtown Ellijay- with shopping, antiquing and wine tasting. For the outdoorsy type- there is Fort Mountain, Carters Lake, Lake Blue Ridge, Amicolola Falls, Cartecay River_ all within 30 minutes. Golf and tennis also. Blue Ridge, GA is right up the road and has a larger downtown and the Blue Ridge Train trip which a lot of people enjoy. Lots and lots to do if you plan ahead or you can just do nothing (which is what we usually do!) We usually cook great meals and just chill after tubing- play frisbee and make s'mores. For those who like wine tasting- we enjoy Chateau Meichtry and Cartecay Vineyards- 6 miles east from downtown Ellijay.

Location incredible

  • 5 of 5

Location was incredible right on the river, fire pits, gas grill and charcoal grill. Great accommodations love the master deck overlooking the water. Wish the fire pit was closer to the river but can't have it all. Looking to rebook again highly encourage you to book here.

Owner's Response: Thanks Joe, always great to hear of a return visit! Summertime might be even better. We are always working to improve, so that fire pit and additional access in and out of the River are on the Agenda. Thanks again for visiting.

Great rental!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cabin for a girls' weekend, and it was perfect for us. It was spacious and comfortable, and the location on the river couldn't be beat. We also loved the rustic, traditional cabin decor. We made the best out of a cold snap in March by starting a fire in one of the pits outside - made us feel like we were camping or tailgating, which added to the fun! The hot tub felt great, especially in the frigid cold. The owner was friendly and communicated effectively with me. Definitely would rent this one again!

Peaceful and wildlife was beautiful!

  • 3 of 5

Let me start by saying how much we enjoyed sitting by the river each evening. The abundance of deer and Canadian geese made each day a new experience. As for the arrival, we got to the gate at check in time to be told our name was not on the guest list. There were other cars that had come in behind us and the gate keeper informed us that we would have to get out and wave the traffic back in order to get out of line. She also informed us that she could not reach the owners of the cabin. It took us 45 min. to finally get a text from the owners telling us that our names had now been added to the list. Imagine how we felt sitting there wondering if we would be driving back to Florida! The gate keeper was certainly not a warm welcoming voice after this incident. We have rented cabins for a number of years in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee, and have had great experiences. We found this cabin to be a bit cluttered and because of a lot of the owners personal things, there was no room for our own things. Overall, it appeared to be clean and well equipped other than storage containers for food. Another problem we ran into was not knowing where the yard boundaries were. What we thought was the fire pit for the cabin property ended up belonging to the neighbors next door. So when we arrived one evening from a day of sightseeing, our wood had been removed and our chairs had been placed on the deck by the river. It made us feel like we had trespassed for sure. There were a number of steps that need to be replaced and yard furniture that was rotting and unstable. However, we never figured out if the furniture belonged to our rental cabin or the neighbors, so we didn't attempt to use any of it except for what we carried off the back porch. In my opinion, the large number of throw rugs did not appear to have been laundered in a while. I am not trying to be negative, but offering advice from comparing this rental to a lot of previous years. The great thing about this cabin is the river, the wildlife, and the flat ground.

Owner's Response: Dale, I am going to chalk this one up to the rudeness of the Central gate operators affecting your whole attitude for the stay. Since we are a gated resort, Guests are required to properly identify themselves. Despite the fact that I sent in all the paperwork, including Guest names and vehicles, this Guest was not put in the computer system for some reason. An oversight I guess. For that I sincerely apologize. The minute the Resort called me directly, the guests were put in. I happened to be out of town, and it might have seemed like 45 minutes, but was handled immediately when I became aware of it. I try and educate all my Guests to provide as much info as possible so that there will be no delays. In this case, the Guest did everything properly, but normally if this situation arises, it is a Guest that invites other family members or people who do not properly identify themselves and that will, and should, cause an alert. As to the boundary and furniture issue, that one is hard to explain. I have never had an issue, only one neighbor on the whole street is normally around, so maybe they didn't realize a Guest was onsite. The furniture was supposed to be removed by the cleaning folks as it was indeed damaged, and is now replaced, but we always try and overdeliver on Amenities and furnishings- and I personally think we succeed far more often than not. That brings us to the next point, and of course everyone's taste is different, but the place is in no way cluttered - my wife actually despises clutter. We have no personal affects in the cabin, and everything around is either for maintenance or cleaning. I am really curious about this, and also the reference to throw rugs. By their very nature, throw rugs are just that- they aren't something you wash. We routinely replace anything that is not fresh, so a review of this will take place. Cleanliness and going the extra mile are our strengths, so again I'm chalking this one up to a bad first impression at the gate. It does appear a bit contradictory that the setting was otherwise a great "experience" ! Thanks to all our guests.

Home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this lovely cabin over this past Labor Day weekend.

We used "waze" - finding the cabin was no problem!

The owners have this cabin equipped and furnished with everything to make your stay superb!

The board game galore is such a treat! My kids LOVED them and tried a lot of them out for hours of fun and entertainment on all 3 days!

The cabin sleeps 8 comfortably! The beds are comfy and the bathrooms spacious and luxurious!

I cooked 3 meals a day every day, be sure to bring the condiments and oil &/or butter. There's music in the kitchen - something I personally enjoyed! If you take your iPod you can hook it up to the speakers and enjoy your own music!

Being right on the coosawatte river, the walk to the river is simple (even for our 1 year old!) and more importantly, the view is breathtaking!

The screened in porch makes the morning coffee and evening drinks so pleasurable!!

And the hot tub!! What a pleasure that was...my kids experienced it for the first time and it felt like heaven after a long hike!! So pack your bathing suits.

The kids got in the tubes and enjoyed the floating in the river...the water was a bit low however!

We went apple picking one day and hiking on another...other than that, we were in this cozy comfy home and thoroughly enjoyed the change in scenery! There was plenty for the kids (1,7 & 8 yr olds) and the adults to do right there in the cabin.

Highly recommend this cabin!
