We spent 10 days in this beautiful villa. We were totally spoiled. The Penn's were the consummate hosts, making our stay easy and very enjoyable. We spent time touring the island and viewing the devastation from the storms last year, but the beaches are still beautiful. Many of the businesses in Cruz Bay are open and welcoming, not to mention the many excellent restaurants. Everyone we interacted with thanked us for coming and supporting the recovery effort. We would definitely return.
Come back to St. John and when you do stay at Pink Conch or Bombalassy!
Our family spent our second winter escape (12/28-1/5) with Curtis Penn. This year we stayed at Pink Conch (2017), last year at Bombalassy (2016). It was a wonderful trip despite hurricane aftermath worries. Both villas were untouched by the hurricane, the island is still beautiful and the residents and businesses in St. John are welcoming visitors back. The beaches of St. John are so clean and pristine. We were fortunate enough to have days where our family ( including an 11 and 3 year old) could enjoy the beaches ourselves. Cruz bay is coming back to life and the local businesses hosted an amazing New Years Eve party on the Beach! Although the effects of the hurricanes are visible i.e., landscape changes, Caneel Bay Resort and Westin are not open, many shipwrecks (especially in Coral Bay), the island is as vibrant as ever! Supermarkets are stocked, ferries are running and internet is working.
Curtis is also the most generous host. We had to stay and extra day due to a huge storm in the northeast and he was most accommodating. It is this hospitality that keeps our family coming back and endorsing Curtis Penn. The Villas are wonderfully stocked, more than comfortable and have amazing views. We always welcome our return to the villas after a long adventurous day exploring St. John.
We love this Island and want to visitors to rest assured that St. John is worth coming back to. We wouldn't jeopardize the safety of our young children if the island was not ready for visitors. It was also a wonderful learning experience for our kids. They saw the destructive force of nature first hand and learned compassion from some of the sights we saw.
So... big picture, come back to St. John and when you do stay at Pink Conch or Bombalassy!
Great place to stay!
This was the second time we have stayed at Pink Conch, and it was just as good as the first. Curtis is excellent to work with, and has done a great job with the house. I highly recommend!
Wonderful accommodations for family of four
This was a perfect vacation spot for us and our teenage boys. The house has all the amenities that you need. Our boys stayed in the room with the king bed (the master) and hubby and I took the guest room with the queen bed. It worked out perfectly for us. The pool was so inviting at the end of the day. Curtis and Myrtle were very responsive and accommodating meeting us at the dock with our rental car upon arrival and were there again upon our departure to take the car away. One of the nicest VRBO experiences we've had and you can't beat the view, it's the best on the island.
My wife and I stayed at Pink Conch for a week, and we throughly enjoyed our experience from soup to nuts. As other reviewers have noted, owners Curtis and Myrtle are incredibly helpful -- as well as simply being very enjoyable to talk with -- and the property itself is spectacular. (We were to have been joined by another couple who had to cancel at the last minute. Although Pink Conch at first seemed somewhat grand for just the two of us, we quickly found ways to cope!) We spent most of each day exploring the island, hanging out at beaches, etc., but we returned in the afternoon to enjoy time on the deck and in the pool, with a beautiful view of Great Cruz Bay (literally within a stone's throw). And yes, the driveway is very steep. But reliable brakes and common sense are all one needs. We didn't have a Jeep -- we rented a Ford Escape on STT -- but we never felt at a disadvantage on the island. That said, a Jeep does seem to be the rental car de rigueur on STJ.
Our only disappointment was the wi-fi. Streaming was almost impossible (which we would have enjoyed in the evening), and even to keep up with the news or email with family sometimes required that we tether to our phone.
We definitely will stay here again should we return to STJ.
Absolutely a beautiful villa! The views are great.
Curtis and Myrtle were excellent to work with. The villa is top notch! It has anything you could want right down to beach chairs, snorkel equipment and coolers. We rented a jeep from them and it was waiting at the dock for us. We loved watching the dogs on the boats docked below the villa. The kitchen is fully equipped. There was no need to even purchase detergent for the washer or dishwasher. We loved the outside showers but wished there was better water pressure. The area is very quiet but very close to town and grocery stores. There was always a pleasant breeze blowing thru the villa making it very comfortable. If we ever decide to return to St. John we would definitely return to the Pink Conch!
