The Space: We recently updated the deck setup and gave the house a fresh coat of paint! The teal photos showcase the new deck layout. This home features an open floor plan with stunning views from every room. Kids will love the upstairs game room, complete with a pool table and ping pong table! With three porches—including a screened-in area—you’ll have plenty of space to relax, grill, and enjoy quality time with family. The upstairs also serves as a game room and sleeping area, featuring two bunk beds for extra guests.
Guest Access: The entire home, including the porches, screened-in patios, and yard, is yours to enjoy! Located in one of the best spots on the island, you’ll have easy access to incredible fishing—right across the street!
The Neighborhood: The 164-acre Audubon Bird Sanctuary is less than a 10-minute walk (.3 miles) from the steps of Alvarado. The sanctuary is a well-known destination for birdwatchers in search of one of the hundreds of species that live in and migrate through the sanctuary year-round, such as herons and pelicans. Visitors can take a walking tour though the palmetto palms where they can experience the birds in the lush native flora and fauna of the island.
The Mobile Bay Ferry is located just around the corner from Alvarado, just a 2-mintue drive or a 7-minute walk (.4 miles). The ferry, which departs every hour and a half during the day, transports passengers to the historic Fort Morgan located in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Just past the ferry is a popular boat launch on the island, where anglers launch their boats sunrise to sundown. Boat trailer parking for the boat launch can be tricky, especially during summer months, so Alvarado’s close proximity to the launch makes it an ideal location for anglers because of the extended boat parking offered to guests. Each unit can accommodate one boat trailer in addition to their parking.
The Dauphin Island Estuarium, an aquarium that is home to more than 100 different species of native Alabama marine life, and the historic Fort Gaines, where you can find guided tours of the 1821 fort that protected Mobile Bay during the Civil War, are both located within one mile of the property as well. There are three public beaches on Dauphin Island — the East End Public Beach, Bienville Beach and the West End Public Beach. The closest beach access to Alvarado is the East End Beach, which a little more than a mile away from Alvarado past Fort Gaines (a 5-minute drive or 20-minute walk).
With the almost dozen restaurants and snack bars on the island, there’s no shortage of local fare and fresh seafood. Almost every menu on the island serves up the freshest seafood in the South, including freshly caught snapper, grouper, oysters and crab. During the summer there are outdoor movies shown on the West End of the island, and the Dauphin Island Fishing Rodeo during July brings more than 75,000 spectators to the island for a weekend of fun and sports fishing.
Even though the island is small (it’s only 14 miles long and less than 2 miles wide or less, in some areas), it offers an endless amount of activities for vacationers, including an 18-hole golf course and endless water activities. Boat, jet ski, stand-up-paddleboard and kayak rentals are available, as well as sunset cruises and beach access to most of the 17 miles of powder, white sand beaches that wrap around the island. These offerings, in addition to deep-sea fishing and diving, make this Gulf Coast sanctuary one of the top destinations for those looking to escape the crowds and enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the Gulf.
We hope you enjoy your stay at Alvarado and enjoy exploring the beautiful Alabama Gulf Coast during your visit!
Getting Around: Located on the East End, this home offers easy access to nearby attractions and restaurants, whether you prefer a quick drive, a bike ride, or a leisurely walk. While there is no public transportation, the island’s scenic walking and biking trails make getting around a breeze. The driveway provides parking for up to four cars.

The location (more forested residential east side) was ideal for us, and we were very comfortable in the house. The communications and check-in process were flawless. The house has a few quirks, like no power outlets in the bathrooms, but once you settle in everything works great. We'd stay here again.

House was perfect location comfort clean. The first thing was the Grill. There was no Grill when we arrived we had purchased some steaks and were not able to cook them. The following day the grill was there. We start getting dinner ready and the stove didn’t work. Could not get the potatoes done. The stove is must
We had a great stay, plenty of room, beautiful views. The kids loved the upstairs loft area. We loved sitting on the front porch or side covered porch drinking coffee and watching the birds. Only thing we needed was a shower curtain for hall bathroom. We really enjoyed this house m, we definitely hope to stay here again.
I appreciate the communication and willingness to work with us. The house had lots of room and was not crowded. Having the two king size beds was a plus! The upstairs with the bunk beds was huge! It would be a great place for kids to call their own. The only downside was not having any sort of traction on the outside steps. We had a little rain and the steps were very slippery. Not a house for anyone with difficulty using stairs.
If you want to fish and relax this place and Dauphin Island are the place to be! Everytime we have rented from these folks it has been a top notch experience.
Perfect location for a short weekend trip with friends. Easy access to set up for the Dauphin Island People’s Mardi Gras Parade. Beautiful views across from a park on the water.
We spent a week there in early October and it was perfect. The home is spacious and very clean. Communication with the owner was easy and they were very responsive. The view of the bay is an added bonus. We would stay here again!
We enjoyed our VRBO. Convenient location with great view. Only one little issue. There was no shower or hand soap. All else was present that a renter would expect, like paper towels, coffee filters .
It looked like maybe they had just remodeled the place. It was clean and spacious. The furniture was comfy and the upstairs game room was a nice place to hangout. However, we had trouble with the heat. The downstairs needs some improvements before the unit will be able to properly heat the downstairs area. Upstairs unit worked fine once we figured out it was there. The thermostat is hidden behind a bunk bed. Then we had a water leak in the kitchen ceiling. Part of the ceiling was falling. The host did a great job of trying to fix the issues. Some things that could also be improved are there are no outlets in the master bathroom. The bathtub was also very slow to drain.
The house itself was beautiful—clean, comfortable, and fully stocked. We truly enjoyed the space. Unfortunately, communication and scheduling with the host were poor and impacted our stay.We rented the home from Sunday evening to Saturday morning. On Monday, I was told to crate my dogs for maintenance to fix the washer—someone had already entered the home without our knowledge. I’m very protective of my dogs (full-blooded Dalmatians), and I’m not comfortable with anyone entering without me present. I expressed this to the host, but they dismissed my concerns. They rescheduled for Tuesday, again saying I didn’t need to be there. After six calls, I finally reached the host and explained the washer was fine. They agreed to cancel the visit once I sent confirmation via VRBO, which I did immediately. Despite this, maintenance showed up anyway. Thankfully, I was home. Then Wednesday, I was told filters would be changed Thursday—again, no timeframe and no regard for my concerns. I was stuck waiting instead of enjoying my vacation. With no guests booked after us, this work could’ve been done later. The home is for sale, and if a different host purchases it, I’d gladly return. But I won’t book with Sigsbee Homes again.

Perfect location. What you see is NOT what you get on VRBO listing however….
Location, location, location is what this property is ALL ABOUT! We got great use out of the backwater fishing right across the street! The view was spectacular from the front porch! The space is set up perfectly for our 2 families. Cleanliness of this property is desperately lacking however and several things inside need repair/cleaning. The entire front end of the house is wonderfully remodeled and decorated. As you get to the bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen however…Kitchen was clean but not fully stocked and the drawers all fell outward when opened, not sturdy at all. Bedrooms were dirty with cobwebs and previous renters receipts not far under the beds. Bathrooms need updating with sinks and shower heads, but we’re stocked. The pictures that we saw on VRBO were not of the house we pulled up to upon arrival. Most obvious was the color of the home, previously grey, now a bright aqua with coral accents! This was a nice surprise and looked lovely. A FOR SALE sign in the front yard was a bit concerning. The back deck had been redesigned and was no longer large and connected as seen on VRBO. The grill was MOLDY, we had to clean it with tin foil and burn off the dirt prior to making our dinner the first night. Very concerning was the lack of safeguards on the screened in deck. There were none, as previously seen in VRBO photos. Not sure how that is allowed. VRBO also showed a fire pit in the yard, that was no longer there. Spoke with a manager who didn’t know the house was….
It’s a nice home with a terrific view, it is a bit older, so there are some minor things to be aware of. There are no outlets in the bathroom for blow dryers and many of the doors are difficult to close completely, but the view is gorgeous. The home is large and very clean and all that is represented in the listing. The check-in and communication were excellent and extremely streamlined.
