About the property

Villa, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 4.5 Baths, (Sleeps 8-12)

Villa I at Punta Dakota is finished and ready for occupancy. This luxury Villa is 4,573 square feet with wide spacious outdoor verandas. Located on approximately five acres, the property has 400 fruit trees, abundant wildlife (including deer and Howler Monkeys) and is within easy walking distance to Playa Coyote.

With handmade sustainable wood furniture, air, indoor and outdoor fans and a fantastic infinity edge pool, Punta Dakota was developed to be a family friendly vacation destination that you will want to come back to year after year.

Maid, cooking and concierge food services, easy access and the quiet atmosphere, we believe this will be one of your top vacation spots for years to come.

The unique layout allows access to the outside from three of the bedrooms with each bedroom area having a lock off ability for privacy. The fourth bedroom has a small smoking deck with a great view of the mountains. The kitchen and main living area are the only shared areas in the Villa. Each bedroom includes a coffee pot, bathroom, shower and privacy window coverings.

Lounge furniture is provided on both floors as well as around the pool area.

Eventually there will be four more Villas constructed at Punta Dakota.

About John Richards

I am the marketing director for Punta Dakota. I have four + years of developing experience in Costa Rica. The property is actually owned by a group of four successful businessmen from South Dakota - thus the name.

John Richards purchased this villa in 2009

Why John Richards chose Guanacaste

The Coyote area of Costa Rica is remote, relaxing and you experience excellent weather year round. The area is full of wildlife, great beaches and stunning mountains. The people are friendly and helpful. The area is truly unspoiled.

What makes this villa unique

It is a beautiful home located in a quiet and remote area of Costa Rica that while discovered, still has what I consider a true Costa Rica feel.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My husband Chris and I went to Costa Rica in May 2010, to experience the Punta Dakota villa and the culture of this amazing country. We weren’t sure what we were in for, really, as we were invited by our friends Milton and Dawn Morris and went with an open mind and ready for an adventure, and an adventure is what we had! Every day was a new experience. We found that the drive to the resort offered us great insight into the locals and we were overly impressed by the neat, clean, appearance of the people themselves, as well as the homes they lived in. Although the streets and roads were less than what we expected, the sights far exceeded any of our expectations. The beautiful colors of the vegetation were a wonderful change after the long, harsh South Dakota winter we had recently experienced. When we got to Punta Dakota, we quickly felt at home and realized we were in a place where we, as a couple, could relax and take in all Costa Rica had to offer. The location afforded us relatively quick trips to the beach, the best fresh seafood we’ve ever tasted, the sound of monkeys in the mornings and evenings, and the wonderful smells of the tropics. The villa was so welcoming, and the infinity pool was the place to be after spending our day kayaking, hiking, traveling to the coffee shop or seaside restaurant, walking the beach, zip lining, or visiting the turtle farm. My husband was glad to find that there was virtually no shopping available because it left us more time to spend doing more adventurous things together, or simply having a frosty drink poolside in the late afternoon. As the days turned to nights, one of my favorite things to do was sit in the pool and look over the edge at the fire flies as they blinked in the vegetation below! Although we were far from home, it brought some familiarity to the surroundings that we were enjoying so much. We took a day trip to more populated beach towns, where tourists and spring breakers go to surf and hang out. That day made us realize that Costa Rica, and Punta Dakota, was a place to come for time alone, but we could easily immerse ourselves in the culture and social aspects of the country if we felt the urge. Chris and I cannot wait to return to Punta Dakota, and hope to someday make it our second home.

Awesome Punta Dakota

This is a beautiful, well maintained luxury villa with an awesome infinity pool. The concierge services were wonderful. The ocean is less than 1/2 mile away and the surroundings are breathtaking. Definitely want to visit again!

Lovely Place to visit exactly what we wanted nice house to sleep all and pool with all amenities!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this place. It is not hard to get to just way out there on dirt roads which makes 40 miles take all day but it was vacation mode so pulling over for a beer and ceviche and being relaxed made all the difference. The town is not large i.e. the butcher is someones house, store is limited by north american standards but perfectly adequate to stock up kitchen for cooking. We thought the bakery was great. We bought fish from fishermen coming in from boats to bbq by the pool. I did a training run to town only 2.3 miles away as a single woman running alone I felt perfectly safe on empty dirt roads. Costa Ricans in general are so friendly as if the whole country took a class on appreciating tourists. Property is high class with great quality linens on beds and nicer bath towels than I keep at home. The beach/pool towels were plentiful and in good shape. The beds were comfortable with a/c and ceiling fans in rooms a must for us during 97F heat wave. Any minor issues were immediately addressed which is a hallmark of excellent service for me. Wilberth (the on site manager) takes your vibe do you want to be left alone or have him there at beck and call etc great service. His two lab puppies were great since the kids in our group missed their fur friends from home and could play with them. However if you don't like dogs I bet they would magically be locked up for guests comfort. Despite the nice kitchen and dining room in the villa there's no way anyone would use it instead of the pool bar kitchen maybe in a storm I guess. There is a playground next to pool but really too hot while we were there to do anything but hang by/in pool. My only recommendation for property owners would be that they get a few beach umbrellas at costco for guests to use for shade on beaches as we couldn't find any down there and they would have been nice to have. Loved the Barco Bar a 10 minute drive away great food & drinks & facility to shower off after playing in ocean. Overall a great visit and we wouldn't hesitate to come back.

A great place to get away!

  • 5 of 5

Punta Dakota was a wonderful place to get away and yet stay connected. With WiFi on the grounds we were never too far away to stay connected with family and friends at home. We had a group of 8 and the villa comfortably accommodated all of us. As another reviewer said, Wilberth took all of the stress out of vacationing. He took very good care of us and made sure that we had a wonderful time! With the beach within walking distance and a pool on the grounds, there is always a great way to cool off and enjoy the warm weather. We look forward to our next trip down there.

Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Overall our experience was excellent. We really enjoyed being in the reliable hands of Wilberth. My wife and I loved the food, weather, scenery, hospitality, cervesas, siestas, and variety of other activities. We had access to whatever we wanted to do and all we had to do was ask Wilberth to line it up. The one aspect of our stay that wasn't "ideal" was the time it takes to get to and from the location. I think that if and when we return, we'll have different expectations and adjust accordingly. Some of the roads can be a little unnerving, but in short time you realize you're in good hands and completely safe. I don't think that we realized how much we enjoyed our stay until we got home and started sharing our experiences with our friends. Enjoying my morning coffee and breakfast while I watched and listened to the monkeys wasn't something I ever imagined, but was something I got to do on a couple of occasions at Punta Dakota. If you have an opportunity to take a trip to Costa Rica and stay at Punta Dakota, you'd be crazy not to take it.

Punta Fans!

  • 5 of 5

Punta Dakota is a place you have to experience to fully appreciate what it has to offer. One of our favorite things to do is to sit on the balcony in the evening and listen to the tide come in and in the morning to hear the monkeys howling as they head out to play. The highlight on this trip for me was the day a family of monkeys showed up in the trees by the pool and hung out all day with us. We enjoyed this trip as a family affair traveling with our sons and their wives. If you want a real taste of Costa Rica where the shrimp or fish for supper is caught the night before, the grapefruit, limes, papaya and plantains are picked fresh from their trees, the ocean a short walk away; and zip lining and a waterfall hike a short distance then this is the get away for you. Let Wilberth take care of your details and ask for his ribs, they were amazing!

I'll go back again and again!!

  • 5 of 5

I made my second trip to Punta Dakota in January. I don't think there is any way it could have been a more relaxing vacation! I love the location. You have everything you need, without the hassle of a large resort environment. The house and the grounds are impeccably kept. We hired Wilberth as our guide/translator and amazing chef. He really takes all of the stress out of vacationing. If I could pack up and move there, I would do it in a heartbeat. Don't miss out on this amazing vacation spot!!

For 2012 we have added a spacious bar at the pool. Restroom facilities are now at the pool as well! The bar has all of the bar supplies, blender, ice maker, sink, charcoal grill, glasses, flatware, music system, ceiling fans, lighting. A new walking path has also been constructed from the pool through the lagoon area and we are currently establishing flower beds for attacting butterfys and hummers! The monkeys are around daily and the deer still wander though the property.
