After growing up in New York, I ventured out to Vail Colorado in 1979. The Ski Bum was born. With my love for great food and drink, I found myself pursuing a career in the restaurant business and ended up managing and owning them. Looking for a lifestyle change led me to my first visit to Costa Rica in 1991, which allowed me to pursue another passion of mine, Surfing. I started building this beautiful retreat in 2002, and I am still expanding and improving. Come and live the dream with me, even if it's just for a while.
Andrew Boaz purchased this villa in 2002
Besides some of the best surfing around that attracted me, the amenities that are at your finger tips makes it all Pura Vida.

If you aren't particular about the brand of chocolate, on your turned down pillow, and you want to know where to find the "real" Costa Rica, Casa Boaz is the place. We spent a week there, during rainy season, and discovered something new every day, thanks to the amazing host/owner, Andy. Although nestled in a quiet, off the main road location, Casa Boaz was easy to find. We discovered a beautiful, private, boutique hotel, immaculately maintained, and perfect for our small family, of three. Our seven year old daughter loved the pool! No cookie cutter hotel rooms here, each "casa" has its own distinct ambiance, and charms. We had more than enough room for the three of us, in our one-bedroom condo, and had our own fully equipped kitchen, AC, fans, hot water, and all the necessities. We liked the feeling of being "out of town", but just steps from the action, in Tamarindo. The hotel is a fantastic facility, and very comfortable, but only a small part of what makes Casa Boaz, the best place to stay in Tamarindo. The owner, Andy, was amazing, he was a big reason we were able to enjoy far more, than we would have, staying in a generic resort. Andy's bio says he spent a long time in Vail, CO, where he certainly learned what "World Class" service means. He's surfed every inch of every beach in the area, and guided us to places we would never have discovered without a "local's" knowledge. We were lucky that he had the time to really help us discover a lot of the country, outside of Tamarindo (we spend three weeks in CR, and followed his guidance to the letter, it was perfect). We hired him to teach our daughter to surf, and he had her riding waves in minutes. He was able to teach me, how to help her get going on the waves, and she can't wait to go again (but only after ski season is over in Bozeman)! The best part of Casa Boaz was the food! I grew up in Chicago, I am a deep dish guy to my soul, but Andy's New York style thin cheese pizza, rivals any thick crust sausage patty pizza, from Lou Malnotti's, I have ever had. Simply amazing, and worth the trip, if you are a true pizza aficionado! We also were privileged to get Andy to cook for us. We bought the ingredients, he knew where to get the best stuff, the beer, and wine; and were treated to a couple of the best meals we had during our entire trip. Staying at Casa Boaz was the best move we made, during our trip, and the vacation would not have been as incredible without a stop at Andy's place.
We recently stayed here for eight nights with our seven-year-old little boy. Let me just tell you, we loved it! Andy was super to us! He even took us to a couple of beaches that we never would have known about! Our little boy probably bugged the stew out of him, but he was SO nice, always inviting him right in and even taught him a new way to dive AND gave him the best surf lesson EVER! We LOVED how it wasn't a resort feel, but an authentic, rustic place to stay, yet very clean and comfy! Andy was always there if we had any questions and helped us line up tours, too! One night he even cooked us a pizza (my whole family agreed it was the best pizza we'd eve had!) I loved everything about this place, but my favorite was the host-we met a friend when we meet Andy! My little boy is going to miss his friend so much! Thanks for everything, Andy!
My husband, one year old, and I stayed at Casa Boaz for a week. We were situated in the Casa Vail unit, which was perfect for the three of us. It was equipped with everything we needed: a full kitchen, a stand alone bedroom, and first floor access to the beautiful pool. You couldn't ask for a better host than Andy. He went out of his way to drive us to Playa Langosta one afternoon so the baby could wade in the offset tidal pool near the mangroves. His food and activity suggestions were spot on. The pool and courtyard area are kept in great shape and Andy was always very accommodating with anything we needed.
In order to access the "main drag" of Tamarindo, you have to walk about 10 minutes on a dirt/gravel road, with a few steep climbs going up to Casa Boaz. If traveling during the rainy season, I would definitely recommend bringing a good pair of hiking shoes, as the roads can become quite slippery after the daily rain showers. We brought all our hiking gear (including a baby backpack), so the wet roads didn't bother us.
One of the main reasons we stayed at Casa Boaz was because we wanted a slower paced experience, away from the super touristy area. If you are looking for a quiet villa just a few minutes from town, then this is definitely a great place to stay.

Casa Boaz is a small vacation rental located up the hill from the upscale surfer town of Tamarindo in Costa Rica. It is operated by Dee and Andy and consists of about six rooms surrounding a small pool. The place is nicely designed with a shady seating area by the pool.
Andy was away when we visited, but Dee was in residence and was very welcoming and helpful. She suggested activities for us and helped us arrange transportation back to Liberia. She also did our laundry for us. Whenever I dropped in her apartment with a question or request, she was more than happy to help out.
I'm not sure of the name of room we stayed in. It was large and roomy, with a queen bed, couch, TV and kitchen table and chairs. There is a small, basic kitchen with gas stove and small bathroom. Both are pretty utilitarian and outdated. The bathroom sink is a pedestal style with no place to put your toiletries. The towels are old and worn and in need of replacement.
However, it is definitely an advantage to have a kitchen in Costa Rica. Restaurant meals are very expensive for what you get. On top of that, there is an additional 23% tax added to the price. There is a small grocery store a few blocks away which Dee pointed out to us.
The beach is about a 20 minute walk down a dirt road.
I would recommend Casa Boaz for rough and ready travellers looking for a small, homey rental place.
Casa Boaz did nothing but impress. Our group ended up being the only ones that were renting from Andy & Dee the week we were there so had the run of the roost. Dee was great fun and very helpful in giving tips about the area as well as setting up a shuttle for us back to the Liberia airport. Unfortunately Andy was out of the country while we were there. Overall a great place to stay, very clean, and lots of fun.
We stayed five nights in the Casa Romantica. Our 17 year old son stayed in the Surfshack. He loved having his own space and thought the Surfshack was pretty cool. Would recommend that if you have teenagers who want their own space but you want them a bit close to you.
They have done a great job with the decor of the units and the grounds to make it a wonderful beach oasis.
Dee and Andy were great hosts, from restaurant and tour recommendations to the delicious pizza on the last night. We got to know the other people staying there which made it a much richer experience than staying at a hotel or another more impersonal VRBO.
Look for Banco National, right side of street you will see signs that say Tamarindo Boutique Hotel follow make a left just past the hotel and go straight up the hill and look for wooden gates with a Boaz logo on wall.
