About this property
Beautiful historic 1916 Farmhouse and Country Home in the Blue Ridge Mountains
Beautiful, historic Farmhouse and Country Home (circa 1916) on 45 forested acres at the foot of a tall mountain with a pristine stream that runs in front of the home. Located in Manassas Gap, gateway to the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah Valley, directly across the valley from historic African Mountain and the Southern Appalachian range. Located in a biodiversity hotspot near many historic landmarks, parks, trails, rivers, farms, country kitchens, and festival locations.
A great place for family and friends to reconnect, relax, and experience the best of nature, history, and country living. Visits by native wildlife on the grounds provide an opportunity to treasure and care for the creation and enjoy it close-up!
Located within 30 minutes of over 100 unique local attractions including rivers, parks, orchards, wineries, historic areas, local shops and boutiques, antique stores, restaurants, wildlife areas, national forests, farm produce, and farm-fresh markets including seasonal pick-your-own fruits, and festivals. A peaceful, quiet, serene, majestic, friendly, safe environment that is easy to reach but feels far away.
A wide range of fruits, vegetables, meats, dairy, eggs, and home cooked goods are available in several nearby locations, along with farm to table restaurants. Seasonal festivals in nearby towns are very active year round.
The home as three floors, three bedrooms, three full bathrooms with showers, three porches, and two large indoor living areas. It has a full sized kitchen that is fully equipped, including a bread maker, crock pot, microwave, oven range, full sized refrigerator, dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and dishwasher. We have extra plates, dishes, and utensils for large families. The kitchen also has a full sized washer and dryer. Our dining area includes a baby high chair. An outdoor Weber grill and picnic table are located outside by the creed.
Bathrooms have vanities, showers, towels, and supplies. The second floor shower has a seating area and shower hose.
Coffee bars on each floor of the house are stocked with coffee, tea, and creamers and supplies. Well water from the tap is purified though a dual water treatment and high density filtration system and tested.
The living areas have beautiful views and accommodate eight people with sofas and comfortable chairs as well as blankets, throws, and electric fireplaces to stay cozy. These areas also have books and toys for children and a wide range of books and games for adults.
Bedrooms have dressers and closets and stunning views. Bedding includes two Queen beds and one Full bed, as well as three extra large twin bed cots with metal bed frames and memory foam mattresses as well as additional single memory foam beds if needed (all with pillows, blankets, and linens). Air conditioning is in all three bedrooms along with floor fans. Sheets and pillow cases are provided as well as comforters and blankets.
A picnic table, Weber charcoal grill, and fire box with Adirondack chairs is located by the creek. Enjoy breakfast or a drink on a wooden bridge over the stream at the opening of the woods.
The front porch on ground level overlooks a stream complete with chairs and side tables for dining. The glassed porch on the second level overlooks the mountain and has a table and chairs for a meal with a sitting area and coffee station. The back porch faces the woods and is open-air.

About the host
Hosted by Tom Peterson
For over 50 years the owners and their family have brought a sense of respect for the local community, its rural heritage, and the natural landscape. They have provided care and protection to the home and property as well as sharing it with others of all ages. They love the land the people and wildlife it sustains.
Why they chose this property
The owners recognized the special natural, cultural, and historical values of the property when they first saw it over five decades ago and embraced its preservation and appreciation. Special features include an abundance of serenity, scenery, hiking, nature, picnicking, dining, stargazing, and photographic opportunities. Many think its greatest attribute is the ability to get a good night’s sleep punctuated only by the sound of rain on the metal roof, or the occasional passage of the Norfolk Southern train through Manassas Gap. The surrounding region is considered one of the most scenic in the state and provides a wide range of experiences, destinations, and amenities. These include scenery, wildlife and ecotourism, photography, solitude, history, farming and agri tourism, arts and crafts, outdoor recreation, parks, education, nearby towns and villages, festivals and events, equestrian activities, churches, shopping, food and dining. The host has traveled to over 40 US states and 30 countries in all regions of the world -- much spent on professional assignment in the field -- and truthfully cannot think of a more genuine place to recommend for people of all ages, particularly families with children. A listing of local amenities and destinations is available to guests, including over 50 within a 15–20-minute drive, over 150 within a half hour, and over 200 within an hour drive under normal conditions.
What makes this property unique
This historic county home is the real thing and and a unique treasure. You can feel the history under its roof and beneath your feet as you walk the land around you. The home's history dates to the 1700's when Europeans first settled the region, but of course its greater history reaches back throughs the ages and the many native peoples and wildlife who made it their life and legacy. It provides access to a wide range of diverse, authentic experiences and destinations for history, nature, recreation, solitude, and community on site and nearby that are geared to people of all ages. It is safe, quiet, and rich in a variety of authentic rural and outdoor experiences. The home was recently renovated to provide modern conveniences, stronger resilience to harsh weather, and sustainable living in keeping with its historic character and architecture.
