Peace Lodge - Nature, Seclusion, and Romance

Bedrooms 3
Space 2,300 sq ft
Property type lodge
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Lodge, 3 Bedrooms + Den, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

The beauty of Peace Lodge is its location. We are far removed yet still convenient to several points of interest. Visit our website listed under 'Links & Video' for a Portfolio - Interior, Exterior, and Aerial views, and see what really sets it apart.

This 'Mountain Getaway' is secluded on 27 acres that includes wildflowers, hardwoods, pines, mountain laurel, and creek frontage with access for fishing and canoeing. Wildlife is abundant, including deer, raccoon, bobcat, black bear, turkey and hawk.

This private luxury mountain retreat is located on Big Reed Island Creek in Dugspur, Virginia. Our retreat includes several unique features to make your getaway really special. They include the following: The master suite has an airbath tub for a relaxing bath for one or two. The first floor suite offers an aromatherapy steam shower. We offer both a wood burning fireplace.

The following attractions are located within 30 minutes or less:

New River Foster Falls Recreation Area; New River Trail; Blue Ridge Parkway, Mabry Mill, Meadows of Dan, Galax, and Floyd, VA.

Conveniently located 3.4 miles from Virginia Highway 58 in Dugspur. Please contact us for specific directions.

This three level retreat offers a bedroom and full bath on each floor along with a full kitchen, dining area, and two living areas. It easily accommodates eight guests. Outdoors there is a large entertaining deck and three covered porches.

Upper Level

The upper level master suite features a king-sized bed and private bath with double vanities. For that romantic setting or private relaxation period, there is an airbath tub large enough to accommodate two. This bedroom offers expansive outdoor views as it opens to the living room from the balcony.

Main Level

The main level includes a fully appointed kitchen with stainless steel appliances - large refrigerator, range, microwave oven, and dishwasher. The dining room flows to the living room where a cozy wood-burning fireplace and large satellite HDTV flat-screen is situated for easy viewing. If you prefer, take in the fresh mountain air by simply opening the double patio doors to the custom deck overlooking the river below. A master suite with queen-sized bed and full bath with steam shower is luxuriously appointed on this level also. For easy listening of your favorite tunes or a lively party, a custom built stereo system pipes music into the living area to surely please the most avid listener.

Lower Level

The lower level offers much open space. It includes a full bath with a walk-in cultured marble shower, large vanity, and large capacity washer and dryer. The bedroom closes behind pocket doors and includes two twin trundle beds. The living area includes a satellite HDTV, X-box, games, free wifi, and lots of space for fun. Walk outside onto the private patio and look across to the other mountainside and flowing creek below. Beginning at this level is a beautiful custom wood staircase that rises to the third floor. Whatever level you find yourself on, it can become the most private or lively area of the home. Take your pick as all will please.

The natural beauty of the mountains is perhaps the greatest attraction. When you choose this retreat, worries evaporate, you relax, and reflect on what is really important.

You may opt to canoe the endless miles of trout and nature filled creeks and rivers. Or inner-tube and float downstream all day. The closest body of water is Big Reed Island Creek located at the base of the property. Choose your own type of fishing day or hire a fishing guide for the 'hot spots'. We can assist here. Check out Greasy Creek Outfitters.

If photography is your past time by all means bring your camera. Wildflowers are abundant from late April through the fall. You could encounter deer, wild turkey, raccoon, our resident groundhogs, bob-cats, and yes, black bears. If you see a bear please don't try to approach it or feed it.

If you wish to venture out, you have 27 acres of mountain woods to stroll on. Avid hunters are also welcome. Please adhere to local hunting regulations, use extreme care in the woods, and do not shoot your guns across the river where several deer cross daily. We will advise where we recommend deer hunting endeavors. If you plan on extended hunting trips we gladly welcome a 'walk in the woods' before the season starts.

For the jogger or walker, if it is a workout you desire, simply walk or jog up the driveway! If you make it that far, there are miles of country roads with your own built in jogging trail right on the property. With over a mile of driveway on the property, you will soon learn that a few laps around the woods covered drive is very relaxing. A walk back down the driveway for your 'cool down' and it's off to the aromatic steam shower! For the more adventurous joggers, simply take a left or right out of the driveway and wear yourself out on the hills through the mountain roads. Happy jogging!

For all of those '12 ounce curl sports enthusiasts' who would rather work out on the back deck, I can not think of a better place to open a cold one, turn on the custom stereo, and enjoy a few tunes.

Why Mark Eskew chose Dugspur

Peace Lodge was not bought. It was created and crafted over a three year period. We took the natural surroundings the good Lord gave us to work with and carved Peace Lodge right out of the side of the mountain.

What makes this lodge unique

I do not care what you do for a living, the world is entirely too fast these days. At Peace Lodge we have created a natural and peaceful environment that is truly in touch with nature. Time does seem to slow down. When your vacation is over you will go home rested and relaxed. For my family that is what vacation is all about.

Peaceful Paradise in the Mountains

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just arrived home from one of the most memorable weekends of our 8 years of marriage. We have never had so much time to ourselves to just be US, and this lodge allowed us to do just that. It forced us to get outside and enjoy nature and each other. We both agreed that we had more fun being "stuck in the mountains" with one another than we did on our honeymoon! We cannot thank Mark enough for the luxuous accommodations (we took full advantage of each and every one of them including the steam shower, wave tub, and "Back-to-the-Future" microwave!) and for sharing your château on the mountain with complete strangers! What a blessing it was. WE WILL BE BACK!!!!!!!!!!

Christmas Wonderland Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Great central point for our family to meet and share Christmas together in Virginia. Top of the line kitchen, well stocked with most everything you will need on vacation if you plan to cook most of your meals.

Plenty of wood for the beautiful fireplace and a nice outdoor chimney for cozy porch sitting and conversations. The upstairs bathtub was awesome for jetted soaks, we all took turns having a nice long bath and never ran out of hot water. The steam shower on the main floor was also a hit with my husband. Satellite T.V. worked great, had an issue with the DVD player but the owner was willing to let us rent movies with his Direct T.V. code.

It was hard to tell from the pics about furniture in the main living area but the sofa is much larger than it looks and there are two leather chairs that were quite comfortable. No dining table except for a high top with 4 bar stools, we brought up extra stools from downstairs and never missed a larger table. Great for games and to feel a part of the main living space.

**Driveway is intense but doable, my 21 yr old daughter drove down with no problems in her Jeep. If you don't have 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive use the Durango provided by the owner at the top of the driveway.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the kind remarks Dena. It truly was a delight chatting with you about the home and its construction. It's nice when people notice the complexities in building to the degree Peace Lodge was constructed. We hope your travels bring you back to our neck of the woods and until we chat again happy and safe travels. Regards, Mark & Nita

Peaceful getaway!

  • 5 of 5

I absolutely loved this cabin. It is so unique, and you can tell the owner put a lot of thought into the property. We stayed over a cozy New Year holiday (with VERY frigid temps, so we did not leave) and we thoroughly enjoyed "being off the grid." The cabin has wifi, but most of us chose to not connect so we could really get a break! The kitchen is fully stocked, which was a huge plus for us. This vacation was way too short, and was one of the most relaxing weekends ever.

Owner's Response: Thank you Kelsey for your kind remarks. We are happy that you found Peace Lodge a peaceful experience where "getting off the grid" can be so refreshing. Isn't it amazing how relaxing being connected to nature can be. We hope your travels bring you back to our home. Spend a week next time. It can be life changing! Until then, happy travels. Beautiful views! Felt like we were completely off the grid.

The roads were a little tricky, but not impossible. We arrived to a beautiful winter wonderland. Snow was falling, roads were covered by snow and ice, and we were glad to be in a 4x4. The home was clean, firewood and fireplace ready to warm us. Mark is an excellent host, full of recommendations and always available for questions. We hope to return next summer and again in the winter. We would love to keep it our secret place, but would recommend it to everyone.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kinds remarks Vonn. The roads can indeed be tricky when covered with snow and ice. Your group handled it like champs and you brought the off road vehicles to make it in without problems. We are glad you are planning on making Peace Lodge your vacation destination next summer and again in the winter months. Your family is always welcome and until next time take care and happy travels! What a wonderful spot in the Virginia mountains

  • 5 of 5

Mark & Nita,

Thank you for a great stay at Peace Lodge. Your home in the mountains is secluded and a great place to relax. The woodwork in the home is beautiful, and the appliances top-of-the-line. Everything there is quiet, clean, just perfect.

The area is beautiful, the leaves are so colorful this time of year. We spent a great family day in Mount Airy, home of Andy Griffith, and got a tour around town from "Barney Fife" in an old sheriff's squad car. We had a day of fishing and caught bream at Fairy Stone Lake nearby. We especially enjoyed sitting on the back deck at night, with the fire pit and listening to the sounds of wind in the trees and water over the rocks from the river below.

My grandson was disappointed he didn’t see a bear!

Hope to return soon, maybe this winter.

All the best,

Tom and Shirilana
