About Captain Bob

I have owned property in Key West since 2002. I moved to Key West in 2004 and have been residents ever since. I had S/V Sunluver in a Yacht Placement Program in the British Virgin Islands until June 2009. I brought her back to Key West in August 2009 and have been operating her as a Charter. I have a Master 100T Captain's License. Having a locals knowledge really enhances your experience in the Keys. I'll be glad to offer any information you would like.

Captain Bob purchased this yacht in 2006

Why Captain Bob chose Stock Island

Key West is the only Caribbean Island in the US to vacation. There are so many things to do while on vacation, such as a phenomenal music scene, museums, theater, sailing, snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, golfing, restaurants, nightlife.

What makes this yacht unique

S/V Sunluver is a luxury yacht. She has approximately 1200 sf. of space to sprawl out. One entire hull is the Captain's Quarter Suite. You have the choice of eating in the Cockpit outside or in the Salon. We can hang a hammock between the mast and forestay for total relaxation. There is a Bose Surround system as well as a CD player with 6 outdoor speakers. Key West Harbour is second to none with their amenities.

Fun Alternative Accomodations in a Yacht Club Setting

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent a beautiful week on Sunluver with another couple that were not sailors. We each had a side/hull of the catamaran for our space, which worked well. And the common areas had enough room so we were not cramped at all. Staying on a boat facilitates being outdoors - at the rear covered space for meals and the front cockpit for cocktails and appetizers in the evening. We also took a sunset sail with Captain Bob, who is a great host.

Beautiful catamaran and gracious host

  • 4 of 5

I am giving our experience a 4.5 star. We couldn't get the full experience because of weather, hence the 4.5, but I would strongly recommend the Sunluver and absolutely do it again.

Our family of 5 (including 3 teenagers from 14-18) spent 4 evenings on Sunluver from Jan 1 - Jan 5. We wanted to do something unique and memorable for my wife's birthday, and include the whole family. My wife and I found the captain's quarters to be more than enough, with far more storage than many hotels I have stayed at. The kids had to figure out how to share 2 in one of the beds, but that was about the only challenge in terms of accommodations. Cap't Bob was readily available for any questions, or if we needed help with anything.

The original goal was to spend a full overnight trip, with Cap't Bob cooking, and then a half-day or sunset sail later in the stay. Unfortunately, for nearly the entire week the Florida Keys had relatively cold weather (55 - 65), very windy (18-25 mph winds), and rain most of the week. The weather broke enough for us to spend a few hours walking around Key West one afternoon, and we got in a short sail the afternoon before we left. The sail was great, and we saw more dolphins than expected and even a sea turtle. The dolphins played around the catamaran for quite a while - tons of pics and videos. We all had to wear multiple layers of long sleeves and jackets, long pants, and had we had gloves they might have been worn as well. Still, Cap't Bob was a great host and told lots of stories about the Keys. And the sun was shining! Because we had expected to have a full overnight sail, he cooked a great gumbo for lunch, a stuffed steak for dinner, and lobster quiche for breakfast. He did a great job accommodating the unique eating requests for family members.

We were all disappointed in the weather, and the impact it had on our plans. We spent a lot of time on the boat playing games and reading. It took a while to get used to the catamaran's motion while sleeping (due to the heavy winds), but slept well nonetheless. The overall trip was a bummer due to the weather, but it had nothing to do with the Sunluver or Cap't Bob.

I would certainly go back and do it again -

perfect combination of stay and sail

  • 5 of 5

Staying on the catamaran in the marina was wonderful with nice pool and poolside service. Easy access to Key West. We did a 4 day sail to the Dry Tortugas with snorkeling and overnight stops at various islands. Capt Bob was a perfect host- low key but very consciencious. We had him do provision and prep and food was simple but hit the spot every time. We loved the combination of land and water time over the week and the catamaran was spacious for the 4 of us (2 adults, 12 and 14 you - used 2 staterooms). Overall a perfect, unique experience with private access to remote islands! We fished, kayaked and snorkeled.

Captain Bob was awesome and the boat was very nice and comfortable with everything I needed. I stayed by myself and felt quite safe. Next time, I’ll bring my boys - they would LoVE this.

Wonderful, relaxing would do it again rental

Wanted to try something different so my wife and I decided to stay on Captain Bob's 45' catamaran instead of our usual resort stay. First of all Captain Bob is a wonderful host and attended to our every need. His boat was beautiful and we enjoyed our time with captain Bob as much as our quite time alone. I am 6'5" and had plenty of room in the shower as well as the bed which I was honestly surprised by. Plenty of space and head room through-out the boat. We arranged to have captain Bob take us out for a full day of fun and then watch the sunset from the ocean, it was fantastic. You have access to the yacht club beach, pool and restaurant as part of the rental which the views and the food were fantastic as well. Do not hesitate when you consider renting the catamaran and it's captain as you will not be disappointed. Thank-you Captain Bob for a wonderful time and memories of a lifetime sir.
