Mike and Monica were married in 2008 and are always on the move. From Mike's professional career as an athlete, to their multiple business'...the two rarely spend more than a week in any one location. They have been very fortunate to travel the country and travel the world, where they have found many inspirations for their vacation home in Santa Cruz, Ca.
We absolutely love all the activities, weather and scenery Santa Cruz has to offer. We absolutely love going to the beach. The only thing we don’t like about the beach is the summertime fog that comes and goes. We loved this house because it put us 1.4 miles from the beach but out of the fog patterns so that we can enjoy the beach when its sunny and beautiful but not get stuck at a house covered in fog. The other limiting factor with most the homes near the beach that we looked at was the lack of space. With 4 acres, tons of parking, 2 roads, huge patios, decks and lawns…it provides us with a place to entertain our friends and family without feeling smothered by the next door neighbors or annoyed with the constant flow of traffic to and from the beach. Another thing we loved was the safety, privacy and exclusiveness of the neighborhood. An added benefit to the house that we realized after we moved in was that it was right in the center of all three Santa Cruz villages.

This property is in the woods in Aptos. The location is wonderfully quiet, a 10-minute drive from beautiful hiking, a close drive to Santa Cruz. Two pluses for us were the inviting seating area near the kitchen and the attractive comfortable bedrooms. Our family spent many enjoyable hours chatting in the family room, and everyone slept well. The pizza oven in the back yard was a fun adventure. We had delicious fire-baked pizzas for Saturday breakfast (remember to bring wood.) The kitchen/eating area were very practical for a large family and provided an area to play late-night games. The owners were very responsive and positive. We are already discussing a return to this beautiful property.
We rented this home for 2 nights for my 50th Birthday celebration. We are Silicon Valley residents, but had family coming from out of town and wanted to make this weekend really special. We liked what we saw on the pictures, but I must say they don't do the justice to this magnificent property. The inside of the house is tasteful and wonderfully furnished. The rooms have big windows with views into the surrounding woods. But the most spectacular part of the experience is the deck that puts you right into these woods. The only sad part of our experience was having to leave -- and this was a unanimous for a group that included five children ages 7-15 and seven adults ages 21-75. We are definitely coming back some day
Love this property!! Tucked away in the redwoods where you'll find tons of privacy but also extremely close to the beach. The house in beautiful and spacious with a well stocked kitchen. Oh and the hot tub outdoors is so lovely!
Monica, the owner, is an absolute pleasure to communicate with and she made the whole experience even more enjoyable for us.
We enjoyed an incredible week in this lovely home to celebrate my parents 50th anniversary. It was the perfect size and location for my family. We loved the very private and quiet location, quiet streets for kids to bike ride, easy drive to beaches and other activities. The house is very well maintained for a rental, nice sheets, very clean bathrooms, comfortable beds. The kitchen is very large with a big island, lots of counter space, cooking was a joy, sipping wine and enjoy gathering all together. Would highly recommend for a number of occasions and hope to return one day.
I stayed here with my entire family for three nights. That's 8 adults, 4 children, no problem. There was plenty of room. The living room is big enough for all of us to watch a movie together. The kitchen is huge with plenty of counter space and cooking utensils. The upstairs bedrooms are all spacious but the master is like its own apartment and has a private deck. Backyard is great. The kids loved playing on the lawn (turf) and throwing balls down the hill (sigh). There are two gas grills, a pizza oven, and a fire pit. One thing that stuck out were all the windows. You always feel connected to the surrounding forest, even though you're five minutes from the beach. It was pretty awesome to wake up and see the fog laden trees out your window. Also, the owner Monica was very easy to work with and answered all questions right away. She provided us with pizza dough and a complimentary bottle of wine. Nice touch.
Wow, the pictures really don't do this place justice. It's so spacious but warm at the same time. The backyard has plenty of space for laying out in the sun, picnics, mingling. It was really easy for me to cook large meals because of all the counter space in the kitchen. All the rooms are comfortable. Even the guests in the bunk room were perfectly happy. The view makes you feel like you're tucked away in the mountains, but you can still reach the grocery store, etc conveniently. The owner was very friendly and replied to all my questions in a timely manner. I definitely want to come back again and have already recommended the house to friends.
