Wooded Private - True Log Cabin on Pristine Spider Lake

Bedrooms 3
Space 2,075 sq ft
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

Log Cabin, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, Sleeps up to 14

This spacious three bedroom log cabin was built using logs from the property. It sits on a wooded private lake-front lot on the beautiful Spider Lake Chain. Enjoy complete privacy at all views and sunsets. Listen to the loons; watch the eagles soar and get a close-up glimpse of deer and other wildlife as our property butts up to the Washburn County Forest offering privacy all around.

The best part about our cabin is the lake! Spider Lake is a chain of 5 deep lakes, totaling roughly 300 acres. The irregular shoreline and many islands, bays and coves make every outing on Spider a wonderful discovery experience. Catch fish from the dock or rent our kayaks for an adventure. Swim the crystal clear waters from the swim raft in our private cove, the pristine waters are heavenly!

The main level features a newly updated fully-equipped kitchen, living room and 2 bedrooms with lake views, and full bath. Ceiling fans in every room. Walk out onto the wrap around upper deck overlooking the lake and Washburn County Forest where there's a gas grill, plenty of furniture to relax on to watch the sunset and large tables to enjoy outdoor meals.

The lower level features a Great Room with windows affording a beautiful view of the lake, two sets of bunk beds, a daybed and pull-out couch. A game room with board games, many puzzles, books, game/puzzle table and Foosball table, also approx. 100 movies for those rainy days. Full bath and utility room with full size washer and dryer are also here. Walk-out to another large deck for an afternoon siesta on the hammocks or sunning on the lounge chairs.

Additionally outdoors is 3 dining tables and chairs, gas bbq grill, fire pit and a canoe, paddle boat, swim raft and floats available for your use.

We also have a 24' pontoon and 4 kayaks for rent. ATV - Hiking trails are at the end of our long driveway which leads to the Tuscobia State Trail and the snowmobile trail is accessible from the lake. There is plenty of parking for boat or ATV trailers. No Wifi - we love to unplug. The Town of Birchwood is a 5 min. drive and has a large convenience store with WiFI, several restaurants, bars and pubs, and a nice small grocery store.

For the ultimate in privacy and northwoods enjoyment this is the perfect family lake cabin getaway!

About Sherrie

This is our family cabin. We've had many great times up here but with our busy schedules we're renting it a few weeks a month.

Sherrie purchased this cabin in 2000

Why Sherrie chose Birchwood

We fell in love with Spider Lake and waited patiently for a place to come up for sale. We had a cabin on Lake Chetac but water was too mucky/green in the summer. With the clean pristine waters of Spider Lake, quiet peacefulness, singing loons, eagles and all around beauty, we love it!

What makes this cabin unique

We love the fact that the logs that make this cabin came from the property it sits on. Crystal clean swimming and in the forest next to us wildlife abounds. Hiking/ATV trails in the summer and snowmobile trails in the winter. Shopping and dining are only a five minute drive. It's private, quiet and peaceful or has plenty of room to be loud and have some fun without bothering anyone!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We were pleased to find that the cabin was roomy and had everything needed for a two week vacation. It was s0 relaxing! We enjoyed using the paddle boat and canoe. It was a great vacation spot and we were thankful to find a lake home accommodating two families with dogs.

It should have been better!

"Did you enjoy your stay"? The question at the top of this review page! Only two options for answers to click on. Either "I loved it!" or "Not Really". For us it was somewhere in between. We only rented the cabin from 8/12 - 8/16. So with a check in time of 4pm and a check out time of 11:00am, that's really only 3 full days, so of course we wanted to make the most of that time. One part of making the most, was us spending time on the chain of lakes with the pontoon we also rented from the owner. We were super excited about it! Unfortunately, the excitement quickly turned into disappointment & frustration when the pontoon wouldn't start and we ended up spending WAY more time dinking around with this pontoon than we should have, buying a battery charger for it... charging it for hours... and that still didn't work... checking the motor etc..etc. We finally ended up renting a pontoon from a local guy, which we got around lunch time Tuesday, leaving us at this point with less than 2 full days of Pontoon use. Although we don't blame the owner for the trouble with the pontoon, we do feel her response to our trouble wasn't very apologetic. Never once did I hear... Oh I'm SO sorry, what can I do? Instead WE asked if she could have the Kayaks, which were also available for rent, unlocked for us to use to kind of make up of for all the hassle & time wasted, but she seemed reluctant & stated that asking the cleaning lady to come back to unlock is asking a lot. She mentioned one set of the kayaks had a combination lock which she could give us, but the paddles were locked in the garage, so obviously THAT wouldn't do us any good. Her lack of desire to make up for it, and aloofness was disheartening. Nevertheless, despite the pontoon fiasco putting a damper on this vacation, we made the best of the time we had. It IS a beautiful property and lake and had we not had all this trouble, this review would be completely different.

Owner's Response: This review is full of negative untruths. I did try and resolve this and apologized to Stefan on the phone, gave him suggestions on starting it and also the information to rent one from a local guy. I believe they wore down the battery trying to start it, the pontoon started for the previous guests and also for me after this group. When asked about using the kayaks, I said of course! I immediately contacted my cleaning lady who was not able to get there to unlock the paddles from the closet. Speaking with the guests we both agreed getting a lockable locker for the paddles was something to look into. At no time during our conversations or after their stay did they seem upset or troubled. You can be assured I try my best to make amends when something goes wrong.

Relaxing, magical, getaway family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin and property had everything you could ever want (except internet and cell service and maybe that's what you're looking for!); private, quiet lake location, immediate access to a variety of lake activities ( fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, etc.), amazing property views, great campfire setup, the double decks with plenty outdoor seating, toys and games for all ages, a great selection of DVDs for those rainy days, and well stocked and detailed accommodations! You really don't need to bring anything except your own food, drinks, and TP! We brought waay too much stuff and discovered that we didn't need about 1/2 of it. And the best part was the dog gets to come too! It was so nice to spend a leisurely morning on the deck, drinking coffee, listening to the loons and deciding what we wanted to do that day. The 5 Spider Lakes are a real treasure that I hope to get back to. It was a lot of fun to kayak all the way down to lake 5, meandering the edges, watching the wildlife and just enjoying the beauty of this natural area. I really appreciate this property and being allowed to stay here. My family made a lot of wonderful memories here.

Lovely log cabin

  • 5 of 5

Very private and well appointed log cabin. Everything you need inside for a wonderful stay. We have stayed here 5 years running so you know it is perfect for us, our daughter's family and our dog. I love that old paddle boat. This year the weather was not very cooperative, but we did not let that dampen our spirits. We played games and watched videos and sometimes swam even though it was not sunny. We made use of every minute of sunshine and even managed a fire one evening.

Family Fun!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Spider Lake Cabin! The layout was perfect for our family. Some upstairs with little ones in bedrooms, and some downstairs, including the dog. Plenty of places to gather, both inside and out. The kitchen was spacious for a cabin, and making meals was easy. The decks were great! Nice to have the upper deck for having coffee in the morning, and lower deck to lounge and little ones to play. The kids enjoyed the water a lot--swimming, canoeing, and rides in our fishing boat. A great family spot!

Loved the property, it was clean with all the amenities you need.

  • 5 of 5

This was the first time at this property and we loved it. We got very lucky with the weather, 75 to 80's every day. The view from the deck was amazing not to mention the house inside and out was beautiful. Very comfortable sleeping with no complaints from anyone. Fishing on all 5 spider lakes was a blast we caught pan fish, northerns and bass. Watching the wild life was a bonus, we saw a bear, deer and the song of the loons. We definitely would return to this property. Sherri was great with answering any questions we had before arriving, she was very responsive which helped in planning our vacation.

Cabin Trip in Wisconsin

  • 5 of 5

This was a great, peaceful location. Great decks for relaxing and really quiet most of the time that we were there. Suggest you rent a pontoon boat and you can dock it just down past the fire pit on the properties dock. Already hoping to make plans for a return trip.
