Log Cabin, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, Sleeps up to 14
This is our family cabin. We've had many great times up here but with our busy schedules we're renting it a few weeks a month.
Sherrie purchased this Cabin in 2000
Why Sherrie chose Birchwood
We fell in love with Spider Lake and waited patiently for a place to come up for sale. We had a cabin on Lake Chetac but water was too mucky/green in the summer. With the clean pristine waters of Spider Lake, quiet peacefulness, singing loons, eagles and all around beauty, we love it!
What makes this Cabin unique
We love the fact that the logs that make this cabin came from the property it sits on. Crystal clean swimming and in the forest next to us wildlife abounds. Hiking/ATV trails in the summer and snowmobile trails in the winter. Shopping and dining are only a five minute drive. It's private, quiet and peaceful or has plenty of room to be loud and have some fun without bothering anyone!

Wonderful place; wish I'd read the listing more carefully.
This cabin and property are beautiful! Very clean, very quiet and peaceful. I look forward to returning with my husband and/or a smaller group. Wish I'd read a couple things on the listing more carefully: there are really only 2 bedrooms (the room in the basement has curtains and only contains bunk beds, so the kids loved it, but my 42-year-old daughter wasn't too happy about not having any privacy or her own room); the swimming access to the water from the shore was non-existent for those who weren't willing to jump off the end of the dock (me), perhaps due to the lake being high from all the rain; the listed rate is only for 4 people and doesn't include service fees, so with 8 people, we paid effectively $400+ per night. Again, these misunderstandings are just MY carelessness and don't reflect at all on the owners; I include them for others who might be reading reviews and might miss those same details. All that being said, the place is marvelous. If we'd had one fewer adult on our vacation, and if we'd learned about Doolittle Beach earlier in the week, the stay would have been pretty near perfect. I can't emphasize enough just how clean and neat and cozy and well-stocked the cabin is and how lovely and peaceful the grounds are. We cooked several nice meals in the kitchen, ate at the big table on the deck, had a couple of great campfires, took many lovely boat rides on the pontoon, watched a lot of birds, played games, and slept late. One other note for fishermen: we caught a LOT of fish off the dock, which the kids loved, but they were all tiny, which the Grandpa was annoyed by. Good place to learn about fishing, but perhaps not a good place to catch your dinner!
This is our second time on this property and already making plans to go back next year.
Slice of Heaven
Amazing little cabin on the lake where we spent our anniversary weekend. The sunsets are outstanding. We can’t wait to go back!
Relaxing, magical, getaway family vacation!
This cabin and property had everything you could ever want (except internet and cell service and maybe that's what you're looking for!); private, quiet lake location, immediate access to a variety of lake activities ( fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, etc.), amazing property views, great campfire setup, the double decks with plenty outdoor seating, toys and games for all ages, a great selection of DVDs for those rainy days, and well stocked and detailed accommodations! You really don't need to bring anything except your own food, drinks, and TP! We brought waay too much stuff and discovered that we didn't need about 1/2 of it. And the best part was the dog gets to come too! It was so nice to spend a leisurely morning on the deck, drinking coffee, listening to the loons and deciding what we wanted to do that day. The 5 Spider Lakes are a real treasure that I hope to get back to. It was a lot of fun to kayak all the way down to lake 5, meandering the edges, watching the wildlife and just enjoying the beauty of this natural area. I really appreciate this property and being allowed to stay here. My family made a lot of wonderful memories here.
It should have been better!
"Did you enjoy your stay"? The question at the top of this review page! Only two options for answers to click on. Either "I loved it!" or "Not Really". For us it was somewhere in between. We only rented the cabin from 8/12 - 8/16. So with a check in time of 4pm and a check out time of 11:00am, that's really only 3 full days, so of course we wanted to make the most of that time. One part of making the most, was us spending time on the chain of lakes with the pontoon we also rented from the owner. We were super excited about it! Unfortunately, the excitement quickly turned into disappointment & frustration when the pontoon wouldn't start and we ended up spending WAY more time dinking around with this pontoon than we should have, buying a battery charger for it... charging it for hours... and that still didn't work... checking the motor etc..etc. We finally ended up renting a pontoon from a local guy, which we got around lunch time Tuesday, leaving us at this point with less than 2 full days of Pontoon use. Although we don't blame the owner for the trouble with the pontoon, we do feel her response to our trouble wasn't very apologetic. Never once did I hear... Oh I'm SO sorry, what can I do? Instead WE asked if she could have the Kayaks, which were also available for rent, unlocked for us to use to kind of make up of for all the hassle & time wasted, but she seemed reluctant & stated that asking the cleaning lady to come back to unlock is asking a lot. She mentioned one set of the kayaks had a combination lock which she could give us, but the paddles were locked in the garage, so obviously THAT wouldn't do us any good. Her lack of desire to make up for it, and aloofness was disheartening. Nevertheless, despite the pontoon fiasco putting a damper on this vacation, we made the best of the time we had. It IS a beautiful property and lake and had we not had all this trouble, this review would be completely different.
Jennifer, Rosie, Stefan, Andrea, Cooper and Olivia!
This review is full of negative untruths. I did try and resolve this and apologized to Stefan on the phone, gave him suggestions on starting it and also the information to rent one from a local guy. I believe they wore down the battery trying to start it, the pontoon started for the previous guests and also for me after this group. When asked about using the kayaks, I said of course! I immediately contacted my cleaning lady who was not able to get there to unlock the paddles from the closet. Speaking with the guests we both agreed getting a lockable locker for the paddles was something to look into. At no time during our conversations or after their stay did they seem upset or troubled. You can be assured I try my best to make amends when something goes wrong.
Lovely log cabin
Very private and well appointed log cabin. Everything you need inside for a wonderful stay. We have stayed here 5 years running so you know it is perfect for us, our daughter's family and our dog. I love that old paddle boat. This year the weather was not very cooperative, but we did not let that dampen our spirits. We played games and watched videos and sometimes swam even though it was not sunny. We made use of every minute of sunshine and even managed a fire one evening.
Spider Lake is a private lake with not many homes located on it, so you will enjoy open water and a quiet setting. It is a full recreational lake but does not typically have jet skis on it.
At the lake we have a canoe, swim raft, paddle boat to use and kayaks, pontoon boat for rent. ATV trails are just at the end of our long driveway and can take you around the lake or into town.
