Perfect for a Wedding

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

We rented Pine Hollow to hold our wedding of 85 people and to host our wedding party. It was the perfect venue for so many reasons - first, the home had adequate space for all 14 of us staying at the home, and was well stocked and nicely decorated, making it ideal for hosting other family members who wanted to drop by and help set up for the wedding in the preceding days as well. Given that we did our flowers and a bunch of the decor ourselves, plus the caterers were operating out of the house as well, the setup was perfect - we had the entire lower level to prep flowers, to stock all the wine for the wedding, and to store the bouquets and arrangements in a separate, cool room before the wedding day. Upstairs, the master suite was beautiful and allowed plenty of light for bridal portraits, and the sitting area and bathroom were perfect for a number of women getting ready and having their hair and makeup done. Outside looked amazing - the backyard is large enough for a moderately sized wedding. It even held a 40x70 foot tent and accommodated our ceremony outside of the tent as well. Our family also rented the Lodge at Edenderry up the street, another beautiful home. I'd recommend it for anyone looking for a beautiful but outdoorsy wedding! The managers are very responsive, as well.

Why Yonder chose Blue Ridge Mountains

We chose Asheville to call home, and moved our family and our business down here in 1998. This is such an amazing location. We get all 4 seasons, but Spring and Fall are the most intense, which is just spectacular! Fairview, and the Falls at Edenderry afford quiet & privacy, the feel of living in the country, while only being 10 minutes from downtown Asheville. This is simply a great place to live, and a super place to visit.

What makes this lodge unique

This house exudes warmth and relaxation. The minute you drive into The Falls at Edenderry you feel the connection with nature, and the serenity related to all the water & trees. Walking into the timber frame, the warmth and welcome of the home overtakes you. The house is simply huge, affording plenty of privacy, while also promoting a sense of gathering, and sharing amongst friends and family. The home opens up to allow the sounds of the waterfall to cascade throughout, creating a calm and serene atmosphere. The hot tub is a pretty nice amenity as well.

Perfectly beautiful

  • 5 of 5

This home was absolutely perfect, it had such a warm family feel to it! My favorite thing about this home was the main fireplace which allowed my family and I to stay warm and spend time together by playing games, listening to music, enjoying wine and chit chatting. Every guest said such lovely things about it. It has stuff for children, teens and adults. It was very sad saying bye to the home and leaving our memories there. Steve was so great and accommodated any needs we had! Thank you yonder and the pine hollow home for allowing my family and I to create and share such an amazing time together!! I would highly highly recommend this home!!!

A terrific house!

  • 4 of 5

Some friends and I had our annual golf trip this year in Asheville. We all were very pleased with the Pine Hollow home. The house was able to easily sleep our group of 12 men and we all had a great time in the game room.

A very positive experience

  • 5 of 5

In the documentation that was provided for Pine Hollow, the statement read, 'Our goal is to provide all of our guests with an absolutely spectacular experience while staying with us at Pine Hollow'. Pine Hollow did just that. The owner is a very gracious host, and due to the major snowstorm that occurred during our stay, was very accommodating by letting us stay an extra night. The Yonder Team was equally as exceptional and very courteous in our interactions. They were available well into the evening, and whenever we needed to contact them. The house is very spacious with plenty of room for our large group. The garage was converted into a game room, so that even though we could not take advantage of the outdoor amenities [due to the snowstorm], we were able to thoroughly enjoy being inside. I would highly recommend considering staying at Pine Hollow if one wants an exceptional getaway in the Asheville area. Tim C

Family-friendly mountain getaway

  • 4 of 5

Overall we were pleased with our rental. We had multiple families staying together with ages ranging from 10-68. Having multiple bedrooms and bathrooms was essential as was having access to multiple living rooms with their own TVs to keep everyone entertained. The garage game room was also a nice touch with ping pong, air hockey, and pool table. The large kitchen also came in handy for family meals. The house was very clean when we arrived and the checkout process was very convenient as we weren't required to remove/consolidate bed and bath linens.

There were a few issues that took away from our total enjoyment of the house:

1. While the house was wired with speakers for music, there was no working radio/tuner or CD player - the components they had wouldn't work. We were told that the homeowner had purchased a small iPod/iPhone external speaker but it couldn't be found. We were able to find an old JVC "boom box" style radio in the house which we made do with. Had we known up-front there would be no music we could have brought our system/soundbar.

2. Some of the door handles to the exterior deck were either very loose or were so tight that it was difficult to lock/unlock and open making it difficult for the younger kids and the elderly.

3. We also had some issues with inconsistent heat as some rooms/floors would get very warm (especially the basement area) with others staying very cold. Luckily it wasn't too cold outside and the fireplace was both functional and inviting - we spent most of our family time by it.

4. The driveway and parking area can get very crowded. Since parking on the main road was prohibited and there is no useable garage, we had to do a lot of moving cars around the entire time whenever people would need to leave. Relaxing the parking restriction or offering some clarification up front as to the actual capacity of the property would be helpful as we could then adjust our transportation choices and take fewer larger vehicles, etc.

I must say though that the rental agency was EXTREMELY helpful and receptive to our issues (especially the music/radio situation) and did try to offer alternative suggestions as well as have the owner come out to help rectify the situation. As we were only staying for the weekend, we adopted a "go with the flow attitude" but had we been staying longer we probably would have taken them up on their offer to help. It was comforting to know they were there and so willing to make things right.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your detailed review! Feedback like this is extremely helpful in determining where we might need to improve. We try to make every guests' stay perfect but, as you mentioned, we are absolutely always there for our guests and willing to make things right if/when we drop the ball. We look forward to the opportunity to address each of your concerns and hope that you will come stay with us again in the future to witness the improvements first hand!

Awesome property

  • 4 of 5

This is a beautiful property to have a family gathering. Gorgeous setting, 8 bedrooms, can fit lots of people. But, I can't give it a 5 star unless the owner makes some small but necessary repairs. As a landlord myself, you have to maintain things. Rental company told me owner was aware of the issues.

1. Door handle on kitchen door is not there. Door can't be opened. Fire hazard if you need to get out the side door.

2. Stove missing a knob. There is a large piece of butcher block covering several burners so no one would use it. Told those burners do not work.

3. Oven was taking longer to cook. Noticed it wasn't closed all the way, owner has installed a large cabinet magnet on the side of the oven and wall. Have to hit magnet just right to close the door completely.

4. Door handle on second floor to outside. Will come off in your hand. Again fire hazard if you need to get out.

5. Bedroom I slept in upstairs had no screen, it was hot, could not open window.

6. Air Conditioning. The second floor is hot in summer. Prior to your arrival you get a packet in the mail. One of the things it addresses is not to set the AC below 70. (I'm from Florida, 70 degrees AC in Florida is freezing, so we thought not a problem). AC on when we arrived, set on 73, AC read 76 in upstairs. There are 3 thermostats- one on each level. I left at 73 first night, got to 74, I think only because it was raining out and cooler. Someone did come out from the rental company, not AC company, but it was raining out on the Friday the second floor was cooler-71 by then. Saturday, upstairs never got below 73. When we left at 10 am on Sunday it was warm out. Thermostat set on 70, AC read 73 and getting hotter out. Per the contract, if they send someone out and they say the AC is working just fine you as the renter have to pay for the service call. So the bottom line is the owners are most likely aware the second floor AC does not do an adequate job. It was hot up there. I paid over $5,000 for 4 nights for labor day weekend. I really expected to be comfortable.

7. Need some new mattresses. I looked at the mattress as I felt the springs. It was old or a very cheap mattress. Several guests woke up with back aches and had same issue.

8. Pond had growth all in it. Long green looking sea weed. No one would get in it.

Overall the property is beautiful. Just ask to see booklet/house rules before signing contract. AC second floor not adequate.

Owner's Response: I am going to basically echo our response to the other review posted that was also "4-Stars", while remembering that even this reviewer referred to Pine Hollow as a "beautiful home", and an "awesome property"!. In 6+ years of hosting literally tens of thousands of guests, Pine Hollow has accrued over 230 guest reviews on VRBO alone, and hundreds more on other listing platforms, and this is only the 2nd review posted that is not a "5-Star" review.....that is pretty amazing, and something the team at Yonder is very proud of. Otherwise I am happy to address the guests concerns. In regard to this guests issue with the AC, it is easily addressed & was a "misunderstanding" of the zoned system in the house, by the guests. Pine Hollow has 3 separate AC systems, coupled with radiant floor heat, and if you do not follow the instructions posted in the home, it creates a "competing" situation, and it affected the cooling. (The guests literally turned ON the radiant floor heat.) We rarely have any issue related to this, but will certainly look at how we can better label thermostats, and add better instructions in the home. The mattresses are mostly "new", with only a few that are not, and we do not get complaints from any other guests. The minor "maintenance issues" that arise can and are always dealt with in a timely manner. Pine Hollow is always in exceptional shape & "5-Star" quality. Otherwise Pine Hollow is a truly unique and special home! And if you read the other reviews from folks in this & other groups, they unanimously ranked their vacation as a true "5-Star" experience!
