Overview

About the property

Lodge, 8 Bedrooms + Loft, 8.5 Baths, (Sleeps 16-20)

What sets the Wayward Moose Lodge apart from the rest of the properties in the Asheville area? Its location has to be first on the list. You will feel secluded, having a mountain top with incredible scenic views all to yourself, but you in fact will be 5-10 minutes from shopping and 10-15 minutes from eclectic downtown Asheville. You will find some of the best hiking, fishing, and white water the region has to offer within an hours drive. The Mountains to the Sea Trail and Blue Ridge Parkway will literally be a few hundred feet out your back door.

The second thing that sets us apart is much more mundane but seems to be important to many of our guests and that is the fact that each of the eight spacious bedroom has its own bathroom. Two of these eight bathrooms have air jetted tubs and the master suite has a claw foot tub as well as large shower.

You can’t overlook the view. Actually you can, all you want, as it will be staring you in the face about anywhere you are at the Wayward Moose Lodge. My favorite vantage point is from a rocking chair on one of the extensive porches. There is no better way to end a day than to relax with family and friends on the porch in the evening, soaking in the last remnants of daylight on the mountain peaks in the distance.

When you find yourself having to go inside you will enjoy a lodge type setting with log walls and vaulted ceilings. There is a large great room that is a perfect place for gatherings of any sort and this is serviced by a professional style kitchen. All of these features make the Wayward Moose Lodge a perfect place for family reunions, wedding parties and corporate retreats.

Everything anticipated and more

  • 5 of 5

The Lodge was perfect for our reunion of older couples. The road up was not a problem at all. The kitchen was wonderful for those of us who like to cook and the porches and views were a delight in the evenings. Simms is very friendly and helpful. Hope to make this annual event.

Spacious and comfortable home for large groups

  • 4 of 5

This was the perfect home for our large family gathering of 20. All the adult couples had privacy with their individual bedroom/bathroom combinations while the chidren were able to comfortably "bunk up" in bedrooms with multiple sleeping spots and bathrooms for each room.

The kitchen is extremely well appointed with pots, pans, dishware, two dishwashers, and industrial coffee maker!!

We never felt crowded in the the living space as the rooms are open and flow well into one another. Additionally the wrap around deck, complete with rocking chairs and hammock, allowed for overflow into the beautiful mountain air.

The house is a "stand alone" property. There is nothing else around it once you ascend the 1 mile driveway. There are hiking trails adjacent to the property for easy access into the Blue Ridge network of trails.

The driveway is steep with several switchbacks. It is a gravel driveway with many potholes and dirt areas that quickly become muddy when it rains. No special vehicle is needed but it does require concentration to go up and down (espcecially after dark).

Once down the mountain, access to shopping, restaurants, gas stations and the main road is easy.

We had a few issues during our stay which required contacting the owner. He was quick to respond and to help in any way we needed.

For a peaceful and relaxing time in the mountains for a large group, this house can't be beat.

Great Place

  • 5 of 5

Great house and very accommodating owner. The few things we needed to have done during our stay were done immediately. We had 16 people and did not feel crowed at all. Will rent this home again!

Simply amazing

  • 5 of 5

I don't think the Asheville area has very may properties this size in proximity to downtown and certainly not with the amenities and views. The kitchen is amazing and the open floor plan is great for family gatherings. The road up to the house did not cause anyone in our party in difficulties and had been recently graded after some torrential rains.

We had a group of seven guys on a cycling vacation. The Wayward Moose was perfect for our group. Eight bedrooms and a bathroom in every room. Very clean and well-stocked with everything you could need in the kitchen for cooking. The house lives up to the advertising, which isn't always the case. The owner was very attentive to any questions we had in a timely manner. The view is spectacular and the trip to downtown Asheville is a pretty easy 15 minutes. The road up to the house is a serious climb on a dirt/gravel road. Be prepared for that. Overall, we were more than happy with our selection and plan to stay here again when we get the group to Asheville.

Perfect mountain retreat for a large group

  • 5 of 5

We had a group of about 7 families/couples meet at the Wayward Moose Lodge for a friend's reunion. It was the perfect location to enjoy hanging out on the property to catch up and also venture into Asheville or the surrounding areas for activities. The kitchen was very well-stocked for us to prepare meals and the main room was large and great for the kids to play and the adults to sit around and play games or talk. All the bedrooms were spacious and had their own bathroom. Everyone raved about how the lodge was the perfect getaway and we would love to return for another reunion.
