Overview

About the property

Lodge, 8 Bedrooms + Loft, 8.5 Baths, (Sleeps 16-20)

What sets the Wayward Moose Lodge apart from the rest of the properties in the Asheville area? Its location has to be first on the list. You will feel secluded, having a mountain top with incredible scenic views all to yourself, but you in fact will be 5-10 minutes from shopping and 10-15 minutes from eclectic downtown Asheville. You will find some of the best hiking, fishing, and white water the region has to offer within an hours drive. The Mountains to the Sea Trail and Blue Ridge Parkway will literally be a few hundred feet out your back door.

The second thing that sets us apart is much more mundane but seems to be important to many of our guests and that is the fact that each of the eight spacious bedroom has its own bathroom. Two of these eight bathrooms have air jetted tubs and the master suite has a claw foot tub as well as large shower.

You can’t overlook the view. Actually you can, all you want, as it will be staring you in the face about anywhere you are at the Wayward Moose Lodge. My favorite vantage point is from a rocking chair on one of the extensive porches. There is no better way to end a day than to relax with family and friends on the porch in the evening, soaking in the last remnants of daylight on the mountain peaks in the distance.

When you find yourself having to go inside you will enjoy a lodge type setting with log walls and vaulted ceilings. There is a large great room that is a perfect place for gatherings of any sort and this is serviced by a professional style kitchen. All of these features make the Wayward Moose Lodge a perfect place for family reunions, wedding parties and corporate retreats.

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

Our group had a wonderful weekend at this beautiful mountain home. There was plenty of room for everyone, the kitchen was amazing with everything you could ever need, and it was close to all the fun of downtown Asheville! We hope to be back next year!

Absolutely fabulous retreat with lots of charm!!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful cabin!! The charm, furnishings & location is spectacular! The cabin was clean, spacious & perfect for visiting & just relaxing! Despite being there in November, the sun was warm on the porch each morning & we all sat outside enjoying our coffee. Asheville is close, as are hiking trails & Biltmore. The first time up the mountain can be a bit exhilarating & I️ would recommend the first trip during daylight hours, but no one in our party had any problems! The beds were clean, comfortable & all had large windows to watch the sunrise & sunset. The kitchen was well equipped with a great coffee maker!! I️ I highly recommend this wonderful retreat!!

Beautiful home

  • 4 of 5

This is a beautiful home on top of a mountain, literally yards from the Mountains-to-Sea Trail and a short, easy drive to downtown Asheville (about 12 minutes), near an Ingles grocery store and a pretty yummy pizza place. We loved the ample space, the pretty views, and the access to hiking, and we loved having our families in one place. Four stars instead of five for us for two small reasons: 1) The drive up is challenging. You don't need AWD, but we all had it and we all were grateful for it. The listing is very up-front about this, but please know that you probably won't be Ubering downtown from this house because of that drive. 2) Shower temps were difficult in at least three bathrooms -- the water would get cold immediately, then get hot, then get cold. A small thing, relatively, and I bet Simms will resolve it (we noted it on our check-out sheet). The kitchen was perfect for our needs -- everything we could have wanted/needed, including TWO dishwashers. We loved watching the mist roll in over the valley from the porch in the morning. And seriously, the MTS trail is RIGHT THERE. We plan to return.

Owner's Response: Reviews are greatly appreciated. Two points I would like to make is, Uber will come up the mountain as well as multiple other transportation service who know the Lodge well. In fact, my son is an Uber driver and he lives 500 yards from the Lodge. Secondly, the hot water problem was due to a filter needing to be changed which we could have easily remedied if they had let us know while they were there.

Very happy with the property

  • 5 of 5

This is an excellent property for a large group. Beautiful house & views, rustic charm, very spacious with several sitting areas, great kitchen with commercial quality appliances. Each bedroom has its own bath, a big plus. Overall very happy with our stay there.

This place has it all!

  • 5 of 5

I recently wrapped up a 5-day family get together at the lodge, and on multiple occasions I was given compliments for finding such a great location for the family. In fact, just a few days into the trip we all decided to come back to the lodge again next year. The lodge was the most well accommodated rental I've ever been to, from the amazing kitchen to the size of the bedrooms with a bathroom for each couple. We also loved the close proximity to downtown Asheville, which was hard to find for such large groups. I can't say enough about our stay and l'm already looking forward to the next visit.

Thanks again!

Lovely Lodge

  • 5 of 5

The Lodge was much more lovely and comfortable than expected!

It had all of the amenities in the house one could want. A beautiful setting and living space...and so close to downtown.

The driveway upwards close to the house was a little treacherous for a standard car, but managed. An SUV is easier to get over the terrain.

Everyone enjoyed the Lodge and thought it a wonderful spot for group reunions.
