What sets the Wayward Moose Lodge apart from the rest of the properties in the Asheville area? Its location has to be first on the list. You will feel secluded, having a mountain top with incredible scenic views all to yourself, but you in fact will be 5-10 minutes from shopping and 10-15 minutes from eclectic downtown Asheville. You will find some of the best hiking, fishing, and white water the region has to offer within an hours drive. The Mountains to the Sea Trail and Blue Ridge Parkway will literally be a few hundred feet out your back door.
The second thing that sets us apart is much more mundane but seems to be important to many of our guests and that is the fact that each of the eight spacious bedroom has its own bathroom. Two of these eight bathrooms have air jetted tubs and the master suite has a claw foot tub as well as large shower.
You can’t overlook the view. Actually you can, all you want, as it will be staring you in the face about anywhere you are at the Wayward Moose Lodge. My favorite vantage point is from a rocking chair on one of the extensive porches. There is no better way to end a day than to relax with family and friends on the porch in the evening, soaking in the last remnants of daylight on the mountain peaks in the distance.
When you find yourself having to go inside you will enjoy a lodge type setting with log walls and vaulted ceilings. There is a large great room that is a perfect place for gatherings of any sort and this is serviced by a professional style kitchen. All of these features make the Wayward Moose Lodge a perfect place for family reunions, wedding parties and corporate retreats.

While the photos are beautiful, they really don't do justice to how majestic this place is for any special occasion. We had a family reunion with 10 adults, 4 teenagers and enough room for plenty more. The lodge is the perfect place for long relaxing mornings with coffee on the porch and memorable nights with wine by the fire. The kitchen was extremely well stocked and we made several meals at the cabin. The surroundings were gorgeous and some of us were even lucky enough to witness a mama bear and her 3 cubs from the porch! So many wonderful memories were made during our stay. I am looking for any and every reason to go back:).
This is an amazing house! Our group of 13 adults and 12 kids (ages 10 to 13 months) stayed at the lodge for 3 nights, and it could not have been any better. There is plenty of space to spread out, a large and well-stocked kitchen, and beautiful views from the front porch. The lodge is about a 10-15 minute drive to Asheville, and about 5 minutes from the grocery. There are also some fun and easy hiking trails right behind the property. As other reviewers note, the gravel road can seem a little intimidating at first, but we didn't have any problems. We unanimously agreed that we will be back!
We had high hopes for the lodge and they were exceeded on all levels! From the spacious rooms each with their own bath to the gourmet kitchen, everything was a treat. The adjacent guest house with 4 more bedrooms each with its own bath gave our group both plenty of private space while offering a wonderful gathering space in the main lodge great room. Our whole group could not say enough good things about the amenities or the lodge. The road is unpaved but exactly as is described. You are within easy reach of a grocery etc. but feel miles and miles away.
I saw the faces and heard the reaction as one by one our family and friends arrived at the lodge - "What was my daughter thinking?" A few minutes later they knew - the view was spectacular and the lodge was impeccable. After they rode down once, the road was no longer an issue. And there was not one other complaint. Plenty of hot water for showers, the kitchen was totally prepped for cooking and the two dishwashers were a hit. Future Scrabblers will see we added a paper D, O and J as they were the only things missing on this grand adventure.
As for improvements, more automatic lights on the outside stairs, and as I have a brother who uses a wheelchair, my recommendation would be this - the lodge itself is very handicap and wheelchair accessible once inside, a cement handicap space and a wooden path leading to the back door would be all that is needed.
Thank you very much for completing my daughter's grand vision for her wedding.
Six couples got together for a long weekend at this lodge and it was beautiful. It is really spacious with a large great room for all to sit and talk. The view from the lodge is spectacular. The road up to it is gravel but directions made it easy to find but probably best done before dark. Very close to downtown Asheville which made it convenient. Only one TV with cable for football viewing but not a big deal. Overall, a great experience for all of us and we were all happy with it.
This Place is Awesome!!!!!!!!!! I saw a humming bird as i was standing on the deck watching the mountain views and listening to the man made pond in the front garden. I cant say enough great things about this place. Our family bonded in such a positive environment. The Master Bedroom is perfect and has a WALK IN CLOSET to DIE for!!!!!!
The kitchen is fully stocked! The Hammock on the porch is comfortable and put the baby asleep as well as the adults!!
Be FOREWARNED..the guest house does not have any televisions and we had to rearrange our sleeping arrangements based on those who needed a television. Also...the road to the cabin is gravel so take your time and PAY ATTENTION!! ALSO....Bring your own nonstick pans. The pans there are beautiful but they stick when cooking things like eggs and home fries etc.
