About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

Sirens Song is a beautiful 2 story private home located beachfront in the middle of Topsail Island. She sleeps 10 comfortably with premium name brand bedding and mattresses. She has limited handicap access with a handicap ramp leading to the first level where you will find the kitchen and living area as well as a bedroom with private bath. With 4 bedrooms and 3 baths the whole family can spread out and enjoy your vacation with all the luxuries of home. A well equipped kitchen with granite countertops and new stainless appliances, wi-fi, game consoles and games, Flat screen TV's and DVD players in all bedrooms, videos, books and games galore, charcoal and gas grills, hammock and gated decks for the little ones and pets to play at ease are just a few of the amenities.

Sirens Song is clean and inviting with two decks overlooking the blue Atlantic and miles of beautiful sandy beach to soothe your spirit. Watch for dolphins playing close to shore from the lounge or rocking chairs or relax and look for sharks teeth and shells right in front of the house.

Topsail Island is a unique blend of old and new with several wonderful restaurants and shops but also local fisherman selling their fresh catch at the bridge. The IGA in the heart of the island has most staples you require and there is a Food Lion just before you cross the drawbridge. A brand new Harris Teeter and miniature golf complex opened summer 2011. People from around the world flock to Topsail for its beauty, adventure and laid-back atmosphere but because it is a barrier island with mostly private homes it is not crowded. Fishing, sailing, kayaking, golf, jet skiing, sightseeing, biking, surfing-Topsail has it all and is a true beach experience.

About Sirens Song:

Sirens Song has two levels with covered parking (garage) for one vehicle and outside off street parking for an additional 3-4 depending on size. There is a game room with air hockey and foosball tables in the oversized rear area of the garage for your enjoyment. A handicap ramp runs from the garage to the first floor deck. The first floor has a porch on the front with patio furniture including rockers to watch sunsets over the sound and a large deck on the back for having your coffee and watching the sunrise over the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. A hammock, patio furniture, gas grill and charcoal grill for cooking your mahi, rib eye or fresh seafood are a few of the features. The front is neatly landscaped with red mulch flower beds, indigenous shrubs and palm trees.

From the upper level open your eyes and experience the 'awe factor' as you step out to the deck overlooking miles of beautiful sandy beach. The upper deck has two lounge chairs for relaxing or sunning and a hot/cold enclosed shower underneath the stairs for rinsing off after boogie boarding or surfing.

Come relax, recharge and see for yourself why everyone loves Topsail Island and gorgeous Sirens Song!

About Barbara Howard

Ray and Barbara Howard currently live in Chapin, SC but spend a good deal of their off time in Wilmington. Ray is from Scotts Hill and grew up commercial fishing on Topsail Beach with his father, uncles and cousins and considers Wilmington home. The plan is to retire there in a few years. Barbara is a homemaker and volunteer and grew up in Columbia, SC. We have 2 children - one graduate of Moore School of Business and one with a Masters Degree in Arts and Teaching (working on her PHD)- both from The University of South Carolina and a beagle/blue tick hound mix who is a year old. We love fishing, boating and the beach and look forward to sharing Sirens Song with you and your family.

Why Barbara Howard chose North Topsail Beach

Topsail Island was the logical and emotional choice for us because Ray grew up there and we have been vacationing there for more than 30 years. Sirens Song had everything we were looking for.

What makes this house unique

Sirens Song is the most relaxing place! I love looking for sharks teeth and just walking for miles on the beach or sitting in the sand and watching the majesty of the ocean. Everything you need is there if you want to cook or you can go out. You can be as active or inactive as you like!

Beautiful house and wonderful owners!

What an awesome home. We felt like we were in our own home. It is very loved and the decks are great. No worries at all about the dogs getting loose. Barb is amazing to work with. We definitely plan to get back one day.

Prime location, beautiful beach, lovely home!

  • 5 of 5

My family and friends had a most relaxing vacation. Being right on the ocean was such a treat...we were blessed with beautiful sunrises every morning. The beach itself was lovely-good sand and a gentle slope at the shoreline. Barb and her husband have created a very welcoming environment with everything you need --beach chairs, beach umbrellas, boogie boards. The beds were awesome (more comfy than my one at home). I'm writing this just as Hurricane Matthew has moved up the NC coast and I pray that this lovely sanctuary sustained minimal damage. Hope to be back!

Owner's Response: Hi Erin, Thank you so much for the sweet review and for thinking of us during Hurricane Matthew! We were very blessed that Sirens Song weathered the storm with very minimal damage- just a bit of rain blew in around the sliders and a little beach erosion from the surge. We are so pleased that you enjoyed our little slice of paradise- please come back to see us again soon! Barb & Ray

Magical

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and our 9-pound poodle just spent a magical week at Siren's Song, and we had such a wonderful time we didn't want to leave--ever! The house had everything we needed and more, and the beach was amazing--the ever-changing ocean, the birds, the shells, the fishing boats. We slept in a bedroom with a sliding glass door next to the bed, and we often woke up to see stars so close they seemed to be in the bedroom with us. Several mornings, we awoke to see a dark red band along the horizon just before dawn. What a way to start the day! We also enjoyed getting acquainted with the Topsail community, especially the folks at Sugar Island Bakery in Surf City, who kept us supplied with the most delicious baked goods we've ever had! Thanks to Barb and Ray for sharing their wonderful home with us. We can't wait to come back!

The Lure of the Siren's Song

  • 5 of 5

Shall I tell you a secret? Siren's Song is so irresistible , you do not want to escape. It sings a song that makes you believe the unbelievable. I hesitate to share this secret, but since we have already booked Siren's Song for next year, I will let you in on this secret treasure.

My husband and I, along with 2 daughters, son-in-laws, 3 grandchildren, and 2 dogs, just returned from a magical week at Siren's Song. The space was perfect! Beds and furniture were super comfy, and the kitchen had everything you could possible imagine (and more) needing on a beach vacation.

It was a real luxury not to have to pack and drag along beach chairs, umbrellas, toys, boogie boards, etc. Thank you Barbara and Ray for thinking of EVERYTHING, even down to the kiddie pool and beach shovel!

The gated decks were wonderful for the children and dogs. Lots of deck furniture, and I will tell you this is something we have been very disappointed with at other beach homes. The wonderful porch and furniture on the sound side of the house was the perfect place for a cool retreat to enjoy morning coffee. One of the biggest kicks was seeing the grandkids, ages 2,3, and 4, taking their baths in the jacuzzi tub while watching tv! I even treated myself to this luxury!

We do not have one single complaint about this home or working with Barbara. Mighty memories were created this week and it was the perfect place to spend time with our family.

The Siren's Song is already luring us to return next year!

A Little Piece of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

We have been staying at Siren's Song for the last 5 or 6 years and love it!! The location is perfect with all you could need or want to do so nearby, the house is beautifully decorated and is immaculate!! Ray and Barb seem to update so many different things each year and always using high quality brand names!! We love arriving and seeing the newest touches! The kitchen is so well supplied and the beach items from chairs to toys are plentiful. It is a luxury to stay here. It fits our family perfectly--a married son, a daughter-in-law, granddaughter, daughter and us--along with our granddog!! There is room for all of us! We have amazing family time sharing so many laughs and creating memories--with everyone's hectic schedules, this is one week when we stop the world and enjoy each other. Our visits have been so delightful that we have decided to spend two weeks there next year!! The Howard's have become friends that are so special and seeing them when we arrive just adds to warmth this home offers. By far the best and most lovely home in Topsail!! Cannot imagine staying anywhere else! Bonnie and Larry B, Littlestown, PA.

Owners not honest - i've struggled with this review

  • 1 of 5

My family spent 2 weeks at this lovely home -- where the beach was under refurbishment. We were not notified by the owner that there was heavy machinery on the beach. These trucks were parked in front of this home for the entire 14 day rental we paid for. We did manage to get a 1/4 refund for both weeks we spent there. I wish only that the owners had told us that there was a massive pipe in front of her home - blocking the beach. Getting to the water was like crossing a 4 lane highway. What followed was an argument on the phone, then accusations of stealing from the landlady, and overall, an ungracious, inelegant, ugly end to a two-year relationship.

Owner's Response: Hi Sarah, I am so sorry that your stay this year was not as ideal and restful as last year though the house was as clean, comfortable and inviting. The renourishment project was almost a mile past Sirens Song when you visited and had been slated for completion by April 30th but due to weather and mechanical delays was granted an extension just prior to your arrival. The only evidence of the project was the dredge pipe tucked up to the dunes with a sand bridge over it and should not have been a hindrance. The problem arose when the Federal Coastal Management Agency took a sample of the beach front and determined that in the early stages of the project more rocks and coral were left than before the project and ordered an additional rock picking process-I was not informed of this until they showed up - I had no control over this. The town manager said it would take approximately 3 days and I offered to help find you a suitable property to move to through friends-you declined and said let's wait and see. The rock picking did not go as planned and the town then hired an outside landscaping company to continue the operation-I then offered you a full refund for your second week if you would like to move out-you declined and I offered the 25% refund for the entire stay which you and your husband agreed to. As a side note the town halted all vehicles, rock picking operation and dredging activity and groomed the beach slope for the 4 -day Memorial Day Weekend which was in the middle of your stay. On your departure day my long term housekeeper informed me that the property was exceptionally dirty and I incurred additional cleaning charges which I did not charge you for due to the inconvenience you experienced. I made a special trip to the property and located the items my housekeeper put in her checkout report-they were in a closet underneath other linens and not handled according to your Checkout list-thus the confusion for which I apologized. You are correct that it was an inelegant end but my only regret is that I did not insist that you move out and take the refund. On a high note the beach renourishment was completed beautifully( if not timely) and the beach has adequate dunes and a nice wide welcoming beach front so hopefully you will visit Topsail again in the future. I wish you and your family only the best. Barb
