Bedrooms 2
Space 1,000 sq ft
Property type chalet
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

Chalet, 2 Bedrooms + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

In this peaceful neighborhood, you will find the perfect base camp for your Alaskan adventure. The Hinterland Chalet is designed to provide you with a cozy stay in Girdwood with full kitchen and sleeping amenities. This timber frame chalet boasts beautiful redwood siding. Built by climbers in 1983, the recycled redwood came from Anchorage's original REI store.

On the main floor, the kitchen and living area are surrounded by windows. The kitchen and bath have just been remodeled with new floors and counter tops. The floors are radiant heated for toasty toes no matter what the temperature outside. The bedroom on the main floor has a full sized bed and closet. The futon in the living room also folds out to a full sized bed. The main loft hosts a queen sized log frame bed where the moon shines bright on clear nights. This is the master bedroom of the house with a full closet. Up the ladder you can escape to the tree room for reading, relaxing, or gazing out through the forest. Complimentary coffee, tea, hot cocoa, and spiced cider are provided for your enjoyment.

The large deck with seating in front is perfect for relaxing after a hike, or, if you love a bonfire, warm up by the fire bowl. This 1,000 square foot chalet is well suited for families and friends in groups up to six people.

About Kathy Fish

We have lived in Alaska for 30 years and love this beautiful state. We feel fortunate to be raising our family here and look forward to the time we get to spend in Girdwood skiing, snowboarding, hiking and just enjoying the laid back, friendly atmosphere.

Kathy Fish purchased this chalet in 2010

Why Kathy Fish chose Girdwood

We chose this particular property due to its location. Located on a third of an acre on a quiet, dead end road, it is very peaceful. The cabin is surrounded by hemlocks and in the summer the hummingbirds and blueberries are plentiful. It is centrally located with several restaurants and the local grocery within walking distance. Whittier, Seward and Hope are easy day trips by car should guests want to explore places other than Girdwood.

What makes this chalet unique

St. Moritz sits at the base of Max's Mountain and ends shortly after our chalet. The neighbors are genuine and the blueberries sweet. When the sun shines, it warms the gravel roads and brings everyone out to visit and share stories. For the adventurous spirit, the back door leads to excellent powder skiing in winter and quiet hikes with bears, forest flowers and birds in summer. This is a quiet, serene place.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for renting out your cabin to us. We loved it and had a great time. Thank you for loaning the fishing poles to us, we all caught fish and it was so much fun trying to reel them in. We finally saw a momma bear and her cubs eating berries off the bushes. We were so blessed to stay here, thank you again.

Owner's response: Thank you Cheryl, we are very happy you had a good time at the cabin. I'm glad the resident mama bear came by to feast on the blueberry bushes and that you got to experience Whittier at its finest. It is gorgeous there when the sun shines! I also want to thank you for leaving everything so clean. We have been very lucky this summer with our guests, everyone has been very respectful and treated our cabin as it if were their own home. It was very nice to meet all of you and I hope we get to see you again. Kathy

We loved it!

  • 5 of 5

The chalet was comfy, cozy, and perfect for our stay. The kitchen is very well equipped - we had everything we needed and then some. It was very clean and neat, which we greatly appreciated.

The setting, nestled in the rainforest, was beautiful, as well as quiet and peaceful. Thank you Kathy for sharing your little piece of paradise with us!

Lovely retreat in the wood!

  • 5 of 5

Kathy's home is perfect for a little family looking for somewhere cozy and private to relax. We loved our three day stay there and wish we could have stayed longer. It's well equipped in every day, and very close to all sorts of great hikes and places to explore. We'd go back in a heartbeat!

Fantastic Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Loved to place, the owners were great. Very easy to find, cozy, and the best shower ever; loved the tree house. We even had a Black Bear visit. We couldn’t have picked a better place for our first visit to Alaska.

We really enjoyed our stay here. It's located in a quiet neighborhood but only minutes from town. Everything we needed was stocked here, we never had a want for anything. We highly recommend this chalet to anyone who needs peace and quiet but access to anything.

Really Great Chalet

  • 5 of 5

Booked this chalet in Girdwood for a three night visit. Found the chalet to be very clean and comfortable. Had everything needed for a most enjoyable stay. Beautiful chalet, beautiful views, quiet and peaceful. We so enjoyed our stay. We traveled quite a bit while staying here enjoying all the local things to see and do. It was quite nice to return every night and know that we could fix us a bite to eat and relax before we enjoyed a good's night sleep. Thank the Fish family for a very nice visit.
