Great house, probably better in winter

  • 4 of 5

The layout of the house is great--one bedroom downstairs (master with queen bed) and 2 bedrooms up, with two distinct living areas downstairs with the kitchen. We were here the second week in August when it was HOT(!) but the house stayed pretty cool all things considered. Upstairs bedrooms and vaulted downstairs room have ceiling fans and we kept things manageable by shutting things up during the day and then opening windows at night.

The downside of the open windows is that there's no protection from the night trains, which are loud. They don't seem to be on any particular schedule: we had one the first night (3 a.m.), three the second, none the third, and maybe one the fourth (or maybe we were just getting used to it).

Other more nitpicky things:

(1) The furniture needs an upgrade. One of the chairs in the living room had an ugly tear in the arm, and none of the chairs or sofa were comfortable to sit in. The dining table is a good size, but the chairs are super-uncomfortable and not sized to the table (the table is too tall for the chairs).

(2) There seemed to be a bit of junk just stowed in random places. For example, there was a dead washer/dryer in the garage (with a bunch of other clutter) and a dead tube-TV in the upstairs landing area just pushed against the wall. Haul that stuff away!

(3) Owner should provide fans for the hot summer months. The garage had three empty boxes that were fans, but there was only one fan in the house.

Overall, we had a great stay, but the proximity to the train and the furniture keeps this from being a 5* rental. I will also say that the kitchen (though small) was one of the best stocked kitchens we've had in a vacation rental--plenty of pots, pans, dishes, and other cooking equipment. And Dave, the owner, was very responsive to our questions.

Just OK

  • 3 of 5

Listing said 6 adult bikes - only 5 and 1 had a flat tire not able to hold air therefore we couldn’t bike ride with our grandkids. No soap for showers - a couple of tiny bars brought with I called housekeeping. Main floor bedroom did not cool down at all at night with no cross ventilation. Sheets horrible. Very dusty blinds and tables. Train is VERY close and loud.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review Ruth. My home does come with many adult bikes and children's bicycles. Many families have commented on how they enjoy the fact that I provide these. Additionally, I do have a canoe that is available for guests to use upon request. This has proven to be a very nice perk for staying in my home. I don't have A/C, nor do I advertise that. However, from my experience and that of many guests, opening the windows at night really allows the house to cool down, including the master. Closing them during the day, allows the home to stay cool. My parents stayed in the master a few weeks ago during our family reunion and during the 95 degree day's, they stayed cool at night. I have brand new memory foam King beds in the upstairs bedrooms and microfiber sheets, so the comments about the sheets is a bit surprising. Ruth, I too reached out to my cleaners stating the that blinds and the home needed a deeper clean. They've acknowledged that and have promised to do a deeper clean after your stay. Finally, the train does go through Sunriver, however, they do not blow their horn ever, which is nice. Many kids enjoy watching the train go by, including my own. Thank you again for your review. I do hope you'll choose to stay in my home again. Best, Dave

A cozy place to celebrate our 14 year anniversary!

  • 4 of 5

The house was nice, with modern furnishings and a comfortable floor plan. There was plenty of room for everyone in our family to gather in one room for meals, board games or a movie, or also the option to spread out to other areas for kids to enjoy their own time playing video games. The owner was very responsive to any questions or concerns we had. The train did pass by a couple times a day, but it didn’t bother us.

Great, but for a few things...

  • 4 of 5

Let me say first that our 3 months there were wonderful. Sunriver was great in the fall, not many people and plenty to do. In the Summer it might be a different story with the crowds.

The house was great and our family and friends enjoyed it.

But, there is the train noise. About 5-6 trains a day and/or night. My wife and I got used to it and didn't really notice it after a while. Our guest awoke all night, one even almost falling out of bed. They never got used to it. And that is with the windows closed.

Our dog loved it. Smells galore. We did have a problem at night as he heard noises under the back porch and would bark all night. It is, after all, in the woods. He finally got over it.

If you choose Deer Park, we hope you enjoy it.

Nice home with tons of room and everything you need.

  • 3 of 5

This is a beautiful home. Great times on the outdoor patio including the barbecue and very private hot tub. The set up was perfect with two living areas, so everyone had plenty of space, but the dining / family room with bar seating brought us all together for games & meals. Easy biking distance to SHARC / Village, and the SHARQ passes are a huge bonus. The owner (Dave) was responsive and very easy to work with. We were concerned about the proximity to the train tracks but we were out during the days and only heard it once during the night. No whistle and it goes by pretty fast. Our trip was in August and with no A/C there was some concern about the heat, but leaving the windows open at night and closing everything up during the day we were never bothered. This home has all the makings for a great vacation in Sunriver.

Great Place with Plenty of Room

  • 4 of 5

The house was very cozy and accessible. We had 3 families say here, with room for all. The SHARC passes were a nice bonus. Dave was responsive to any inquiries from beginning to end.
